QUOTE(Dias @ Oct 29 2011, 07:44 PM) #8 - As per the Form BE guidebook; "An amount limited to a maximum of RM1,000 is deductible in respect of the purchase of books, magazines, journals or other similar publications (in form of hardcopy or electronic but exclude newspapers or banned reading materials) for enhancing the knowledge of the individual, husband/wife or child." But what's most important is that you have the receipts to support your claims. Limited means that you can claim up till RM 1k only (even if you have spent more than that). I have a question here..... What type of the publication can be claim that exclude newspaper? Is The Edge consider as newpaper or magazine? All these time before I just think only newspaper can't be claim but not to sure whether there are magazine or publication that can't be claim also?

Publications you can claim that excludes newspapers can be like National Geographic, Businessweek, Asia Food Journal, etc. Don't know if The Edge is a newspaper or magazine. You'll need to seek clarification from IRB's technical unit.

I need to buy some medicine (from Tung Shin hospital) for my mother in law. Usually we buy 1 years' supply at one go (as she stays outstation).
Can I use the receipt to deduct income tax? Should the receipt be made to my name or my MiL or how should we go about this?
The cost is about RM2000 for the year's supply of med..
Cheers!

Sample 1Receipt Name : {Your Wife's Full Name per IC} Patient Name : {Wife's Mother's Name per IC} Sample 2{Your Wife's Full Name per IC} for {Wife's Mother's Name per IC} I believe you CANNOT claim Medical Expenses for your parents-in-law... I received an email from HR regarding this: QUOTE You are receiving this email because you are provided the benefit of Employee Awards & Recognition paid.
In accordance to LHDN’s Public Ruling No.2/2004 issued 8 Nov 2004 and Second Addendum to Public Ruling No.2/2004 issued 17 Jan 2006, the prescribed value of this Benefit-In-Kind (BIK) is taxable as there is personal elements involved or has the potential of it being convertible to cash.
The amount will be reported in your EA Form for year 2011 as a BIK.
Please also take note that for year assessment 2011, individuals are allowed tax exemption of up to RM2,000 for BIK related to innovation, productivity and efficiency. If you have received other cash bonuses (e.g. Special Incentives, Inventor Bonus or Recognition) directly through payroll, the amount will be sum up and tax rebate of RM2,000 will be applied.
For further reference, please refer to LHDN website on the ruling of BIK and exemptions allowed.
Thank you. May I know what does this mean? I see a lot of stars!

QUOTE(David83 @ Jan 13 2012, 06:10 PM) I received an email from HR regarding this: May I know what does this mean? I see a lot of stars! as long as the amount of BIK is less than 2k, just ignore it as you don't have to declare it if your BIk is > 2k, then the excess will have to be declared under income and taxed accordingly

"Benefits In Kind" eg. company sold to U a demo car below market price by $10K, thus your BIK = $10K OR U are given a property to live in, with services and stuff, costing say $7K per month. Thus your BIK for the year = $7K *12 mths Er.. please correct me if i'm in lalaland ar fellow forumers.

Ask them for it. 2) Max you can claim is RM6000.
