The receipt have MPH written on it but without the usual address and phone numbers. Each description is itemised as [BUKU] or [MAJALAH]

3. Those claiming for medical benefits could also enjoy tax relief for maternity expenses and buying and seeking traditional medicines and services respectively. They include ayurvedic and acupuncture treatments.
How does this work ?
If my wife gives birth, can I claim under maternity expenses ?

Hi, Dear all,

I wonder if anyone can assist me on the following :-
I deposited RM 3,000 and opened SPPN account for my children in 2007 which I claimed for tax exemption in 2007 tax return already. Can I still claim for the tax exemption for year 2008 if I did not deposit anymore money in 2008.
*
Answer is NO. You need to deposit in RM3,000 every year to enjoy the tax relief.
The statement for Income Tax relief is available at http://epay.ptptn.gov.my/saving/hasillogin.jsp
It would show whether you can deduct or not.

If you have an income, then it's taxable.

I came to know that we, as employee is entitled for the relief for petrol for the sum of RM6k.  I was just wondering if we could use the receipts to double claim it, i.e. to use it for personal relief, and also for business account relief.

Would the inland revenue department trace the 2 receipts submitted in 2 different account as mentioned above.
*
I remember <RM6,000 no need to keep receipt.
Then you can use this receipt for the business account relief... whistling.gif

Books & Magazine relief is counted based on actual payment you paid (nett after discounts and cash vouchers).

Eg.
Cost of book = RM50
10% Discount = RM5
Total Cost of Book = RM45
Payment method = RM40 + RM5 Cash Voucher (from bookstore)

Total relief can be claim is RM40, not RM45.

I understand that we are entitled for the hp and petrol allowance rite?  How does it work?

Did your employer give you these benefit in year 2008 ?
If yes, these benefit is now tax exempted for YA2008. No need to put into the form.

they didnt.  I paid out of my own pocket money.  So can i still claim?
*
Did your company reimbursed the amount back to you ?
Normally this benefit need to be added to your Income...but for YA2008, it will be tax-exempted.

Eg.
In Year 2007, you receive RM2,400 as travel allowance from company
You need to add RM2,400 to your total income for YA2007

In Year 2008, you receive RM2,400 as travel allowance from company
You DO NOT need to add RM2,400 to your total income for YA2008

They did not reimburse me.

MB i should put my question clear.  Whether am i entitled to use my petrol receipt to claim for tax rebate-wherein it was not a benefit granted by my company.  Purely out of pocket expenses.
*
If company don't reimburse, means they do not provide travel allowance to you as an employee. Thus nothing do with Income Tax.
You can't use these receipts as tax relief...

Sports equipment is the newest item which you can claim as tax relief for YA2008.

Racquet, Shuttlecocks, Golf ball, ping-pong ball, ..... are claimable.
Basically without that item the sport will not happen.

Sport Shoes, Sports Attire, Swimsuits cannot claim sad.gif
Why it cannot be claim ?
- You can run bare foot
- You can swim naked whistling.gif

Tax exempt on allowance is NOT EQUAL to Tax Relief or deduction.

Your employer should not calculate item
1. Parking Allowance.. RMxxx
2. Transportation Allowance.. RMxxx
3. Handphone Allowance.. RMxxx

into the RM11111 as this will increase your taxable income... Better get your HR to re-do the EA form.

Let me give you an example
The company gives RM500 as parking allowances
The company gives RM10,000 as travelling allowances (home to/from work + work related travel)

For year 2007, EA should put RM10,500 to be added as part of your income
For year 2008, EA should put RM10000-(RM6000+RM2400) = RM1600 to be added as part of your income.

Do you see the savings ?

Look at Contoh 5 from this : http://www.hasil.gov.my/melayu/pdf/perkuis...bahan012006.pdf

If you get travelling allowances RM6000 and your company add that figure to your total PENGGAJIAN...that's totally WRONG !!!
Either put in Section G or don't add to PENGGAJIAN

Tell your HR to fix it

Here's the difference in terms

1. Tax exempted amount means you don't need to put in the Borang BE/B.
2. Tax relief amount only need to put in borang BE/B.
