I think so long the audio books is purchased from bookstore, it is easy to explain.

Don't lar buy audio cd from DVD store  like speedy or pasar malam and then want to claim it as audio book. Hard to convince people also lar.

Does RM600 sounds like speedy or pasar malam to you? tongue.gif

I spend $15 on Audible.com monthly for their Gold membership biggrin.gif

I think better ask the accountant around if it can reduce the tax. Your case look like edge case.

But just my opinion, i think what the government want is for people to keep learning and reducing tax by buying book is way to encourage people to do so.

If i am the head of tax department, i would say yes, it can be used to reduce but I do not read their mind and some officers you know lar, also blur blur. It is not like very obvious receipts like Buku, book. They might puzzle and give you hard time.

The key is to be able to show the "obvious".

I think there is a leaflet attached together with your be form. You can check there.
Basically, what i read is only your house S&P is sign 2008-2009, and also your house is not rented out.
The PCB is the  pembayaran cukai berjadual something near the total tax have to pay column.

(just check the leaflet)

Supercomputer is a very expensive equipment, probably would be half the size of a room, if you can afford to buy it just to reduce your tax, then why not?

Some allowance are exempted and some are not. Better check what category of allowance it belong to.

hi, is standby allowance taxable? my employer put it in tip kasar, thank you.

A bit tricky here for your situation, it depends wats the purpose of tis allowance is paid for... normal meal allowance for employees on regular basis is exempted from tax EXCLUDING the per diem allowance for the purposes of exercising the employment.

If I'm not mistaken you have to add the travel/petrol allowance to your income tax instead of deducting it.....

travelling and petrol allowances are 2 different things. travelling is treated as employee benefit in terms of vacation or work related travelling expenses (restricted to certain amount) whereas petrol allowance is treated as part of your income under section 13(1)(b). if your petrol allowance is less or equivalent to RM6000, then you dont have to include in your income: if it's more than RM6000, the extra allowance will be taxable.

** I could be wrong regarding the amount.

Hi,

Some questions..

1. Can home loan maintenance charge and IWK fees be considered expense set off against rental income? I understand quit rent, fire insurance etc can be expensed off.

A home loan maintenance charge is applied to certain types of home loans eg. those flexi home loan accts.

2. Can we claim for broadband and medical checkup fees if this is already been paid by employer? Of course, I still do have the original receipts.

Thanks!

Actually if u follow the IRB guideline, travelling, petrol or toll rate allowance is the same. Extra allowances (>RM6,000) will be exempted as well if u can have the records to prove that the allowances is paid for exercising of ur employment.

Correct me if am wrong.

check your EA form or consult your HR

suppose your HR already deduct for you in your EA

example, let said your total earning is 70500 and 500 is your travel allowance ...

so in your EA, your total earning should be 70000 ...

and there should be additional statement behind the EA form to show the total deduction for travel allowance ...

if those travel/petrol allowance which is not reimbursement and is tax monthly, then HR sure add into the EA form already.

and now since there is a 'benefit' to exclude 2.4k max travel/allowance, HR sure already taken out from the total earning in the ea form ...

What makes you think the kidmad is talking about allowances?

The amount is included in the EA form and listed under Elaun/Perkuisit which is part of the total earnings, not part of allowances/expenses.
