Only claim for receipt under the tax payer's name only.
Of course will fine you lah... else everyone would be claiming RM1000 each year w/o any receipts, right ?
You can show photocopy if you had them.

Guys.. 1 stupid question, but i still want to know.
If let say, after minus out everything, I only need to pay goverment rm1K maximum for tax then If let say i bought a new laptop at rm3K and add into my claims. The amount that i need to pay to goverment is:

1) zero and government pay me back zero
2) zero and goverment need to pay me back rm2K coz max can claim for computer is rm3K.

Logically I think the answer is suppose no 1. We can only claim back what we paid. For eg: i paid income tax rm18K peryear. Maximum i can claim back is RM18K. Just to be on the safe side, can somebody confirm this?

Another thing is, better we pay monthly(PCB) or pay lum sum? I mean, everymonth we still can put aside the money in ASB or something to get some dividens or interests and will be accumulated and use that to pay the income tax. Will that is a better/wise option?

The RM3k is a relief, not a rebate therefore No.1 is correct..

For employment income PCB must be deducted out.. Fyi, IRB will do PCB Audit and if found out your Company for not paying PCB for you, the Company will get fined..

for your information the 3K laptop is relief not rebate there u cannot use to deduct your tax payable u only allowed to deduct your total income.

second you are require to pay pcb if your salary reach the range set by irb.u employer will definately deduct your salary and remit to irb because if they fail to do so they have to pay the penalty.

better than nothing. gather and keep more evidence of payment. you dont need to submit those original or CTC receipts. only when being selected for tax audit or when u need tax clearance to leave country for long.

quite true. but joint name in a loan also difficult to differentiate who pay the loan & interest. as long both of you claim not more than 10k should be fine

For the housing interest relief, I email Hasil customer service to get more info.
According to them, we need to prove that we pay more than half. We need to provide bank official document if any.
If no proof document, it is consider half-half.

Technically and practically speaking, I would expect a netbook to fully qualify as a PC, but the other 2 does raise an interesting question.

Heya guys, i was just randomly browsing through this thread, I saw the ipad question raised a few times, i even saw the question in Personal Money magazine.. and the IRB person didn't give a clear answer, so I asked my lecturer who owns a tax firm, and he said of course the ipad is eligible for the RM3k relief smile.gif

hi guys, sorry to tumpang this thread but i dunno where to post this. i'm a bit lost regarding monthly tax deduction (MTD/PCB).

i'm in a situation where i have to prepare the MTDs for my company directors which only receive directors fee once a year. last year we didn't pay MTD so LHDN has already fined us and we would want to pay MTD this year but i'm lost at what forms to fill up and submit to them. so far, i understand that i have to submit CP39 but then there's TP1/TP2/TP3, do i need to submit those as well? Also, i now calculate the MTD based on the online calculator that LHDN has provided. i went thru their formula for calculating director fee but don't understand at all. doh.gif so can i trust the online calculator to calculate the MTD or calculate it manually myself for director fees only.

In the case of iPad, one simple question should be answered:
A: Does it only have computer features?
OR
B: Does it also have handphone features in addition to computer features?

If the answer is A, this means the purchaser is entitled to the RM3,000 relief (categorised as a personal computer). But, if the answer is B, the purchaser is not entitled to the RM3,000 relief since it cannot be categorised as a personal computer.

iPad certainly does not have handphone feature such as GSM 900/1800/1900 connectivity unless 3G support is considered as handphone feature.

if you bought it for yourself with your own money why not. Anyway you only have to worry if you are audited since you do not have to submit receipt for computer purchase.

Me going for medical check up by year end to get the relief for this year's income tax (its like getting a discount) as next year my income going to be minimal.
