QUOTE(denver @ Apr 26 2016, 03:18 PM)
If you are thinking about buying a new ASX, let me share my experience on one thing. When I bought my car, I was offered 2 years free service (labour and parts) worth RM3,000 which I thought was a good deal, because basically I will have zero maintenance cost in the first 2 years.

Now I regret taking this offer. Why? Because there is no such thing as free. You are paying for it. I found out that if you dont want the free 2-year service (upto 40,000km service), you can get a discount of similar amount. The disadvantage of taking the free service offer is that you need to use it within 2 years, otherwise you will burn your free service. My problem is that my ASX is my wife's car, which we use as second car, so it is relatively low mileage.

Now I have to use my ASX really hard to make sure I can reach 40,000km before my 2 year expired, so that I can get the 40,000km free service, which cost about RM2,000 as it is a major service. If I missed servicing my car before the 2 year expired, I will have to pay RM2,000 out of my own pocket. Essentially I already paid for this 40,000km service upfront, now because the car is low mileage, I run the risk of having to pay RM2,000 for the major service on my own if I dont send my car before 2 year expired or if my car not reach 40,000km yet.

My advice, dont take the 2-year free service (labour and parts), and take the discount instead. That you way you can take your own sweet time to do service as an when your car reached 40,000km, and not have to rush and really use your ASX extensively just to make sure your car can reach 40,000km within 2 years so that you can claim my free service worth RM2,000. This is a lesson learnt from me which I am sharing with you guys.

Thx for your info and I think the new 2015 FL player had been replace from initial 2014 CKD.
no way to fix the rubber smell?

I have not found a way yet. To be honest, I have not even asked the service centre to look into this, because from what I read here, this is "normal", so I just accept it.

same engine as CBU, same interval, all the same. 10,000km or 6 monthly or 5,000km or 3 monthly if you drive in rough condition

but i drive less than 10,000 a year. sometimes a bit more, but most of the time less

even if i only drive 2,000km, but its already 6 month, i change oil also

u see the syntium 3000 oil still so clear when i change the oil. the workshop mechs even asked me can they tapau the oil for their own use

i say go ahead cos my new oil change is already paid

interestingly, this happens mostly with CKD batches

maybe if you can have a CBU and CKD side by side, you can compare the insulations and stuff like dat

CBU even has CVT cooler on the left, lower side at the front bumper, near the foglight

dunno CKD still retain this or not

I am looking at ASX, CX5 and Forester but wondering what the best deal for ASX now?

Can I have the summary of cons on ASX as when I read through the forum, highly reflect issues are below:

1) Rubber Odor smell from A/C vent when sudden accelerate at >110km/h speed. Is this confirm fix in new 2016 model per some of the comment?
2) Player keep on hang and cacat Navi. Any firmware ugprade can fix this?
3) Rubber effect on CVT but I think this is normal for CVT gearbox w/ slow pick up.

Any other issues?

Thx
*
1) Ha ha Ha, I haven't smell the rubber smell from A/C vent when suddenly accelerate. Didn't have this problem with my 2015 FL ASX. So can't comment.
2) Useless piece of "shit" that all I can say. What firmware updates? It may turn the "shit" into a brick.
3) No comment.

Any issues?

Knocking sound when reversing. SA says it is due to the brake pads and should go away. 6 months and the sound is still there.

I'm guessing, if you dont take the 2 years free service, you will get additional RM3,000 discount on top of whatever discount that you got.

I dont like to have my car serviced for 40,000km at (for example) 37,500km. It will "messed up" the next interval because the next one will be due on 47,500 instead of at 50,000km, which will mess up the next one and the next one as well. I would rather use my car a little bit more (and rest my other car) so that it can reach it the required mileage a little bit faster then normal. This is just my personal preference.

If that the case, its mean you choose to void your car warranty if anything happened instead of servicing it on time which on 6 months or before.

No, the warranty is not void. Car manufacturers give some leeway on the mileage and duration for service. All my cars are covered under warranty, and I have claimed warranty on several occasions in the past without any problem even though my car is not serviced exactly on 5,000km or exactly on 10,000km, or exactly within6 months. As long as you service your car within certain tolerances i.e. you dont exceed too much time/mileage, then your warranty will still be okay. Just make sure you dont missed one service completely.

Yes. First batch of lancer without the cooler tends to overheat when cruising at higher speed (140+).
I believe all the lancer, asx cvt comes with the cooler nowadays.

Did my 40,000KM major service on 15/02/16. My mileage at that time was 19,911KM. I am following the duration, not the mileage. And yes, it is the last free service. My car is 2 years old now.
