Hahaah.. Don't worry.... your rats would probably reach the 250g weight coz their mom weighs around there.... it's the males that can reach 300g hahaha.

My Shiro had apple yesterday, finished it.

Anyway, I'm trying to bond Shiro with me so she stays in my room.... If you have a big room, then placing the rats tank or cage at the furthest part is the best but make sure you air out your room everyday. Open all doors and windows if possible. Still, I prefer them out of my room coz their pee is quite bad for us. The ammonia is bad for breathing in the long term.

Dog's don't pee in the room... just their fur will be everwhere hahaha.... I got dog in my room everyday and night, sleeps with me.

Have fun choosing from her supply of baby rats. They're all super cute and active! Haha. biggrin.gif

Added on April 26, 2007, 11:42 pmHeys Hun, would the dog's fur affect the suggies?
I noticed my dog's fur seems to be EVERYWHERE. Place both of my dogs outside of my room in case their fur isn't good for Felix.
*
no, dog's fur won't affect you or the suggies.... hey, I got asthma wan hahaha.... but i sleep with my dog.... it's been a year since I last had an episode heheheh. So you got nothing to worry about. My dog sheds like crazy too.

QUOTE(HotGimmick @ Apr 26 2007, 11:42 PM)
If I clean the cage everyday, will the effects of ammonia be lessened? sad.gif
*
If you clean it everyday then it should not be a problem. In fact, cleaning everyday is healthier for you and the rats.

but .. if using the little star cat litter ? how ? u said can tahan 2 weeks
*
The smell can tahan too weeks lah... but then it is unhealthy to keep that long if in the bed room.... Coz I'm still thinking bout the ventilation problem also.... I placed my 6 rats before in my room.... the smell is really bad.... I change bedding every 3 days also can pengsan but that time was woody pet lah.... Litter Star is good but also it is advisable to change once a week when in bed room.... the poo must take out everyday.

Well.... I don't think the rats will have are diseased since they are from healthy stock.... Pee just smells strong, if we happen to get it into our system then it could cause some complications which I am not sure of... so always wash your hands before touching your mouth or eyes hahah.... but I'm just being cautious only.

The poo can carry bacteria after it is dried... coz the air can carry spores if got mold... so it is best to clean it often if you see poo here and there....

Hahaha.... it happens with all pets... not only rats.... even hamsters and rabbits.... every animal. This is why the best is keeping our bedroom clean lah.... sweep and mop weekly, vaccum twice a week if possible.... then air out the room by opening windows.

QUOTE(invierno @ Apr 27 2007, 02:09 PM)
I have 1 male & 6 female mice live in a colony for breeding. They give birth at different time. I found that the latest new born cannot survive.

Is it caused by the new born cannot compete with their big brothers & sister for milk? Or it is caused by others problems?
*
Mice are communal.... they tend to take care of each other's young.... I would say it could be the competition.... coz the stronger and bigger ones would normally take up all the milk, leaving the younger ones unable to feed.

Also, if your mouse is more than 1 year old, her fertility rate can drop and the babies born can be premature, leading to early death.... sometimes the mother is at risk too.... so best is after 1 year of breeding, a mouse should retire.

What are you breeding the mice for?

The mice are young. I breed for my fren's snake.
Is there any way to keep all the baby mice together in colony without losing the younger?
*
The way is to give a large tank.... Why not you separate the female with the young ones? That would be a better chance of survival for the younger mice.

Thanks. Another question, can I feed mice with raw soy bean and nut?

Added on April 27, 2007, 4:28 pm
If I separate the female with the young, will it be any problem to introduce the female back to the colony?
*
Mice are easy to intro back to the colony.... so it should be no problem. i always intro new mice into mine hahaah.

Anyway, avoid feeding soy bean..... it is bad.... actually, any raw beans are bad for them. Peanuts and Cashew nuts are ok.

Hmmm.... I noticed that Winter and Noelle, both from Pet Family, are quite lanky in body type while Autumn, from Tikusniaga, is more pear-like and heavier and squishier. I might breed Autumn as I find this trait more desirable.
*
Really? Bring her to the gathering lah..... Then can compare with my Mink boy hahaha...

Added on April 30, 2007, 8:36 pmoh boy, great news for rat lovers.... got a Pixar animation soon about a RAT hahaaha...

Btw Hun, when will the animation about the Rat gonna be released?

Hahah.... if you say rat, sure he will give you the eye.... shocking.gif

The Pixar's Rat animation will be out in June 29 in US... so it will be around that time as well. I can't wait for it hahahah.

Wah... don't give chocolate loh... quite dangerous since cocoa in chocolate is poisonous to animals.... unless you give carob, which is a substitute for cocoa then ok lah.

Aiyah, rats apa also makan. You give them scrambled eggs, burger, cheese, apples... hehehe... they love them. Give them dogfood or catfood for extra protein. If you wanna give an extra treat, you can give the Wet canned dogfood, they love it but give only a little cos wet food spoils faster.

I read online that rats are the only animal that's safe to have chocolates. There were quite a few articles on that topic, so I thought it'll be alright to let them try out a little.

Anyway, I only gave them a little. Don't think it'll be enough to do any harm besides gain a little more weight. tongue.gif
*
Really? Hahaha... I guess I didn't do enough reading.... was saying that as general knowledge coz what I know most animals cannot take chocolates....

Haha... now I know tongue.gif
