I agree- its confusing. Seeing the 280 TSI badge on the rear makes me think it is has either a 2.8 litre engine or 280PS or 280Nm. Or even outputs similar to a... 2,800cc engine? None which are correct.

Those aren't familiar with VW will for sure, think of what you said above when they see it. Heck, I think casual VW owners would get confused, even.

Honestly the Polo with its 6-speeder is a much better drive in heavy traffic than the DSG7 imo.

The belt on the mk7 requires inspection upon 240k km, whereas most belts require replacement at 60-90k km. It's been like, 3 years and haven't heard of any belt failure on the mk7 1.4 so.. I guess its working like it supposed to be *fingers crossed*

Well the combined average fc for the 1.8 Passat B8 would be well below thr average needed to qualify it for EEV certification, so I guess around $150k is possible? Not sure about the 2.0, though seeing that I'll come with all the bell and whistles. And wouldn't it be odd that it'll somewhat match the low spec A4 B9 here..?

all this rebate kinda confusing  rclxub.gif

not sure which is the best to go with
*
Well.. the 10k rebate allows you to uh, not have to pay any downpayment, with normal interest. If you want to put down any downpayment, you can opt for the Maybank scheme. Since it offers 0% interest for 5 years loan ( or very low interest for 9 years) long term savings I believe..? I suppose this is financial guru department, as I kinda... suck.. at my financial planning sweat.gif

And if anyone remember does Road Assist towing service terms has changed? My buddy had a flat battery, and the operator said he'll be charged to tow his car to the nearest service center - the closest one is around 300km+ away, since he balik kampung to Kelantan, and the limit for free towing is 40km.. ? If anyone can clarify on this..

I am planning to do an interim oil change for my six months old passat (2015 model). Just wondering, what is the oil capacity for the passat? Was reading that is could be up to 5.8 quarts.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?...-TSi-Oil-Change

Appreciate any advice as I have not serviced my passat yet so am not 100% sure.
Also, can anyone recommend where to buy an original VW oil filter for the passat that is cheap? Tried looking at lelong and mudah but no original VW filter.
*
Service center will charge you for 5l of oil during service, which is around 5.8 quarts anyway, and the original oil filter is around $90+. Most probably cheaper outside, but I can't help you on that though sad.gif

QUOTE(YnWa77 @ Oct 24 2016, 10:28 PM)
Hi I'm quite a noob here. Couldn't find any discussions on polo 1.6 hatchback so i popped up here. Hehe. Seeking advise from all the sifus here who own and drive a polo 1.6 hatchback. Pls advise what is the major concerns of owning and driving this entry
*
Well it's.. okay? It's nicely and solidly built, but under-specced compared to its competitors, although the latest batch has a color touchscreen headunit with Mirrorlink support and center armrest with rear A/C, which I think no other B-segment in the price bracket has (correct me if I'm wrong..), and it's a fun ride in towns; that I kinda favor it more in city round-abouts than my own Golf, somewhat! And the engine & gearbox, although nowhere near its turbo-charged and dual clutch brethens, is sufficient imo for it, its perky & responsive enough to me, at least.

What I absolutely abhor is, its maintenance costs. The service cost for the Polo ( or the Vento 1.6, for that matter), lets say for the first 60,000km is almost the same as a say, Mk6 GTI by my calculations! It's mostly due to needing spark plug replacement every 30,000km or 2nd service. That's just silly to me. Iinm it used to be cheaper before the price hike in engine oil/parts/labour hike like, 3 years back? But now, VPCM really oughta look into this - their cheapest range has one of the highest service maintenance cost! I'm kind of a personal crusade (cough) of deterring anyone I know from getting anything with the 1.6 MPI engine until VPCM sorted out the maintenance cost for it. I have several friends that are just shocked when it comes to the 2nd service, considering I kinda.. vouched for a VW vehicle to them. And I'm not buying the 'conti car, conti-price maintenance cost' excuse those at dealerships tell me.

QUOTE(kadajawi @ Oct 25 2016, 03:01 AM)
So I visited the VW dealership to get some warranty repairs done/let them search for the source of the rattling/update the software and calibrate/adjust the headlights.

They gave me an appointment in more than 2 weeks, it should take 2 days. I need a replacement car, which they will happily provide... for a fee. Minimum is around RM 130 a day for a basic as hell Polo, but that only includes 100 km a day. So I need to pay another RM or so per km, because I'm going to do more than that. Oh well.

Renting a car outside is a bit cheaper, but more troublesome because I need to get the car then, get mine and the rental car to the workshop, at which point I'm going to be late for work...

I'm a bit disappointed that they aren't going to provide a courtesy car. They said the mobility warranty is only for unexpected breakdowns... not planned repairs. I'd get a courtesy car if my car broke down.

Oh, for those new here, I'm a Golf owner in Germany, so I'm just reporting on the service overseas so you guys can compare.

Did two 5.8/5.9 liter per 100 km drives today. Not too bad, though I wish I had bought the 2.0 TDI. (You pay quite a premium for that engine though, and the 1.6 TDI is awful. Terrible. It makes the Axia seem refined.
*
I always wondered about VW ownership experience over there; considering the sub-par one I experience here.. I absolutely love the brand, been through 5 models of Golf and probably will continue to stick to it in the future, but the whole experience mostly due to dealers, is.. ugh shakehead.gif

But really.. how does the dieselgate thing is perceived over there..? Does it really affect VW over there at their own turf? Does people there gossip about it in coffee shops (lol laugh.gif ) and so on..

is the 1.2 tsi vento having lower maintenance cost than the 1.6 engine?
*
I don't have the service schedule for the 1.2 Vento yet, but I assume it will pretty much be the same as the 1.2 Polo Sport that has been discontinued, so yea, definitely. Nothing like 1/2 cost or anything but still logical by my standards. Cheapest to run among all of VW's line-up here, AFAIK.

Inb4 breakdowns etc *cough cough*

As for Dieselgate... not so much fuss. I don't hear much about it, except on the news. There is talks that diesel vehicles (except for the cleanest ones) may be banned from entering some bigger towns. That would be a huge bummer and issue. Other than that I'm not too worried.

It's a bit of a shame, because I like diesels. In fact I wish I had the 2.0 TDI... which is affected I think, but what a lovely engine. The power is good, a bit better than the 1.4 TSI. But the fuel consumption would put a smile on my face everything I'd fill it up. biggrin.gif
*
How about the e-Golf/GTE? I love watching the e-Golf's 'Goodbye' ad biggrin.gif . And at the last event they held for owners here Armin Keller said the GTE would be introduced here around Q4 2016 although that is most unlikely now. Too bad I was particularly excited back then, even made some calculations to own one sad.gif

QUOTE(voscar @ Oct 26 2016, 01:24 PM)
Only if they would reduce the "standard spark plug" and ATF price for Polo 1.6, which contribute the huge portion of expensive service pricing at 30,000 and 60,000km. Seriously those 2 items are bare standard, I think the ATF not even synthetic version, huge profits they are earning...
*
I agree on this. Going from $500+ for the first service to like $1100++ for second is a huge shock for a lot of owners, especially when most didn't enquire about the maintenance cost when purchasing it. And for those that travel a lot, say 30k km+ a year (like me..)? Much worse - say you had to spend almost 2k just for servicing your supposedly entry-level VW.

Apparently we're getting the 1.8 and 2.0 versions of the B8 Passat hrmmmm.

On the other hand.. has anyone here tried fitting the Bosch Clear Advantage wipers on their VW? It looks like its adapter would fit on a VW but there's no mention of VW in the product compatibility..

QUOTE(ruth1977 @ Nov 1 2016, 11:31 AM)
Last Thursday night, I couldn't unlock my seven month old Passat. The car was parked in a mall and I had to go home and get the spare key. Luckily, the spare key worked and I managed to drive home.

Yesterday, I went to Cergaz Autohaus in TTDI and they told that the key needs to be reset but as they were fully booked yesterday, they told me to make an appointment or try luck and go to Sri Hartamas or Selayang SC. I went to Sri Hartamas SC and they reset the key in less than an hour.

Hence, just want to ask a few queries:-

1. If the key gives up like that, how do you open the doors in an emergency? I managed to take out the emergency "plastic" key from the casing  but I could not get it to fit into the slot under the door knob. I didn't want to use too much force as I was scared it might damage the key.

2. Anyone ever sent their car for servicing at the Sri Hartamas or Selayang SC and how was the experience? I thought Sri Hartamas (FA Wagen) were ok but there was a customer after me who was scolding them because his car broke down again soon after he receiving his car from the SC. He previously left his car at the SC for more than 1 week to sort out. Not sure of the details and I didn't want to ask him as he was in a bad mood tongue.gif

3. While at the Sri Hartamas SC, I got a rough quotation for the 1st service (15000km or 1 year). It was around RM 640 with 6%GST (4.7L Oil = RM 319.60, Oil filter = RM 96.50, Drain plug and gasket = RM 23, Lubrication = RM 40, Labour = RM 124). If I wanted to service the air cond, it will be an additional RM 305. The SA told me at the moment the air cond service is not mandatory but VW might make it compulsory going forward.

Is RM 640 reasonable for 1st service or did anyone manage to get a cheaper quotation from the other authorized VW SC for 1st service? To me, RM 640 is a bit expensive.
*
Yea, you just use the plastic key to pry out the plastic cover over the manual key slot, it's a bit tight I suppose, just needs practice; you can get your SC/SA to show you how. I don't know about resetting the fob or anything, probably your keyfob battery is just.. dead? Does the small LED indicator on it still blink when you press it? I know my friends that use the Passat/CC needs their keyfob battery changed regularly compared to my Golf, especially the CC ones with KESSY. I have a friend that claimed he swapped the standard 2025 battery for a 2032 that offers more lifetime but I have no way to ascertain his claim unsure.gif

Afaik first service for the Passat does hover around RM620++, as there's some discrepancies on a how different dealers charge on things but mostly not that far off. Like I know that my dealer charges for 5l of oil for the Passat, instead of just 4.7l, things like that. Although the quotation I got from my dealer for Passat's 1st service is just RM619.80.. I'm not sure why you got charged RM40 for lubrication, as everything should fall into labour, iinm.

The Highline is pretty much very well spec-ed now, compared to say, the Passat B7 CBU at launch with pretty much the same price.

I'm more interested in the facelift Golf. Someone used to tell me the reason there's no GTI/R selling for months now is because VPCM is waiting to bring the facelifted GTI/R batches instead of the old ones. Could be.
