Yea and I think many DCs discourages gloves because people tend to touch things that they are not supposed to touch when they have gloves on  tongue.gif

yups, I believe when you become a more responsible diver than gloves is not much of an issue. But its not that practical to wear it anyways unless for certain type of dives.

Anyone been to Tioman through Tanjung Gemok jetty?

Last minute decision to go to Tioman and apparently ticket from Mersing sold out/no departure on my date

So most probably have to go from Tanjung Gemok.

My question is:

1) How is the drive to Tanjung Gemok from KL? I have drive to Mersing, the road is still ok.

2) How is the parking at Tanjung Gemok jetty? Mersing seems to be bigger apparently and easier to find parking.

3) I'm travelling on a Saturday instead of a Friday. Is it harder to find a parking to park at the jetty since its a Saturday and many people (im assuming) would have park there since Friday?

Thanks!

Answers:

1. Tanjong Gemok located somewhere above Mersing about 30mins to 45minutes depending on the traffics or tailing some lorries. Tanjong Gemok also famous for Udang Galah as well as Lobsters. Around September is the lobster month ... yummy!

2. U be surprise! Parking in Tanjong Gemok is much superbly easy comparing to Mersing.
For example: Mersing parking is not available in the early morning ferry departure, parking gates usually closed for early boat.

For Tanjong Gemok, is relatively easy, parking in the jetty, gated and available 24hours. upon reaching lets say around 4am, u r able to drive in and parked in easily. Is about RM15/day since my last visit. And security is much better than Mersing and its nearer to Tioman in terms of shorter journey but lesser boat due to the tides and geological factors of the area. And marine fee is only RM5, in Mersing u pay RM10 or more due to cross border n taxes since Tioman in Pahang and Mersing belonged to Johor etc... (correct me if wrong on the marine fees)

3. It will be hard on the peak day but the surrounding area will be easily park as less people board the Tanjong Gemok Jetty.

Tanjong Gemok, u may overnight in Hotel Sri Malaysia or Guesthouse near the border across the bridge.

Thanks so much for the information.

Can you please suggest the which route to take?

I am driving from KL.

Based on google map, they direct me to go through Kuala Pilah - Bahau - Muadzam Shah, is this route a good idea?

What time do you suggest me to go depart from KL? The ferry is at 11a.m

Not much of choices bro...

Yes, Kuala Pilah - Bahau - Muadzam Shah - Tanjong Gemok Jetty tats the easier route but once passed Batu Kikir, its will be all forest until u reach the coast. There will be some wild animals passing across ... tats almost apply to the same route u traveling Mersing for it.

Well its take about 5 hours to Tanjong Gemok.

And if coming the usual road for u to take to Mersing and go Tanjong Gemok, u add up a bit lo, bout 6 hours to Tanjong Gemok.

Its either u depart around evening to Tanjong Gemok and overnight in car (for me in car unless got friends follows) OR overnight in Hotel Sri Malaysia or nearby hotel.

Driving up around night time is quite scary... If u involve in accident or car got issue, no one is available to help much coz traffic is pretty low and signal may not be avail as well, so best is traveling before night fall, or evening so at least u may reach there with ample time for u to rest. And as well when u get into the island, u wont feel headache when diving... Anyway, I'm still drive around evening or nightfall if go with friends... not so scary ... hahahha

Maybe other divers can pump in more suggestion and ideas here...

Except for 29 Aug till 31 Aug, departure from tg gemok is 6a.m/12p.m, return from Tioman around 9a.m/2:30p.m

Which kampung ar? Babura is the cheapest so far. RM108 for aircon room. But the room..... to me i just use for sleeping. haha.

And usually the dive shop arrange the dive package +room for me, so i let them gao dim for me.

The only downside of Tioman is the ferry tickets which are hard to get especially if you decide to go last minute.

I have to get it through somewhere else which cost me slightly more than the usual price. =(

If going to Tekek on budget, can go for Cheers chalet. Rm50 for single fan room, rm60 for twin fan room. Clean but sharing toilet though.

Global house also not bad.

Diving with TRD?
