I'm not sure whether you want me to list out my entire collection, all 30GB of it (and that's not that much!). However, I have some favourites, especially as I am a musician (pianist) - pieces which I have played mainly

Piano
Claude Debussy - Pour le piano (Prelude, Sarabande, Tocatta), Images I (Water Reflections)
Maurice Ravel - Ondine (Gaspard de la Nuit), J'eau Deux, Pavane Pour Ine Infante Defunte - Those are absolutely my favourite piano pieces, marvellous to play as well.... ahhh...
Chopin - Etudes Op.10 No.1 (C maj), No.4 (C# min), No.10 (C min, revolutionary), Scherzo No.2 in Bbm

(I have 'taster' recordings of all of those listed above - as in, they're bad performances - performed by me, but if you want to get a taste of how they sound I can pass them to you)

Obviously there's a lot more to list, but those are my favourite piano pieces

Chamber
Shostakovich - Piano Trio No.2, Jazz Suites
Ravel - Piano Trio (just GORGEOUS)

Concertos
Ravel - Piano Concerto No.1 in G, Left hand concerto
Abe - Prism Rhapsody (Dual marimba concerto)
Grieg - Piano Concerto in A minor Op16
Prokofiev - Piano Concerto No.3 in C
Samuel Barber - Violin Concerto Op.14
Sibelius - Violin Concerto in D minor, Op.47
Shostakovich - Piano Concerto No.1
Saint-Saens - Morceau de Concert (French Horn)
Sammartini - Concerto in F major for Recorder

Orchestral / Large Ensemble
Parry - I was Glad (w/ choir)
Resphighi - Pines of Rome
Handel - Messiah
Holst - The Planets
Kabalevsky - Colas Breugnon
Mahler - Symphony No.1
Ravel - Daphnis et Chloe

Obviously I didn't list A LOT, but the above include my favourites... I guess I just love Ravel.
*
oh man, too much recommendation in here
and most of them didnt have free recording in classiccat.net ...... sweat.gif
therefore cant enjoy all of them...
btw, i will update the first post with your recommendation
thx notworthy.gif

btw, i now found some great music...
The Beautiful Blue Danube - Waltz, compose by Johann Strauss II
Vienna Blood - (waltz again), compose by Johann Strauss II

got any other recommendation on waltz??

Edit: is the Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe is No.2??

I don't know if this has been recommended:

Chopin-- Grande Polonaise Brillante In E flat major With Preceding Andante Spianato In G major Op.22 -- Polonaise. Allegro Molto

If you wathced The Pianist by Roman Polanski before, you'll know it's the piece that the main character played at the end of the movie.

is this one??

Here's another of my favourite piece of Chopin's work

Grande Polonaise Brillante In E flat major With Preceding Andante Spianato In G major Op.22 -- Polonaise. Allegro Molto

If you've seen The Pianist, you'll know that it was played at the end of the movie.

*Edit: Do you know where to get the piano score for Nocturne Op.32 No.2?

Requiem for a dream is an indie movie, Clint Mansell (the composer) worked together with The Kronos Quartet to create the soundtrack. Lux Aeterna is one intense piece !

Btw if you want to watch that movie, make sure you're mentally prepared to go through it. No cheesy happy ending in that movie..in fact no happyness at all.
*
so...
why we discuss movie in here?? laugh.gif

btw, i found another Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, 2nd mvt which is in faster tempo than your version brows.gif
and you aledi found Dvorak's Czech Suite??
how is that music??

He's got the 2nd and 5th movement, Very nice. I haven't heard the rest of the movemnets yet but so far I like the 2nd movement. It is very lively and pleasing, almost like a waltz.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Btw I highly suggest Shostakovich's "Suite for Variety Stage Orchestra" Waltz no.2 (Not to be mistaken with "Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2 ") This piece has quickly become one of my favourite waltz.  nod.gif

cant find the Shostakovich's "Suite for Variety Stage Orchestra" Waltz no.2 in classiccat...
your favorite waltz...
is the piece you state above is better than The Blue Danube?? hmm.gif

Nah, I don't think there is the best waltz out there, its all on your taste. Blue Danube is just really popular but still nice. Also try listening to Waldteufel's "Ice Skaters" Waltz Opus 183. Also one of my favourites along with Strauss Junior's Wiener Blut or "Vienna Blood".
*
ya, 'Vienna Blood' is very nice!!!

got what Waltz you can recommend us again??

make a list in here please tongue.gif

forgot to reply this post

anyway, i really prefer a faster version of Beethoven's Symphony No.9 2nd mvt becoz of the tempo is "Molto Vivace"
Vivace = lively, briskly
Molto = more
so, it mean this music piece must be played in More Lively mood
the recording you give take time around 13 minute, but the recording i get is 11 minute...

you think which one will be 'more lively'??
the slower version or faster version??
for me, that piece is really better perform in faster way

It all depends on the Maestro conducting the symphony, each one differing from the other. In my opinion the speed it is played doesn't really tell me it is more lively or fast. Whats on the composition sheet already tells me it is so. The one I send you has it playing slowly and yours conducts it faster

As for the list, I don't have many waltzes but I can try to recommend some pieces of that era.  nod.gif
Chopin
Waltz in G Flat Major Op. 70
Waltz in C Sharp Minor Op. 64
Grande Valse brillante Op .18
J.Strauss II
Tritsch-Tratsch Polka Op. 214
Thunder & Lightning Polka Op. 324
Emperor Waltz Op. 437 *Highly recommended
Vergnügungszug "Luxury/Journey/Pleasure Train Op. 281
Voices of Spring Op. 410 *Highly recommended
Where the Lemons Blossom Op. 364
Roses from the south Op. 388
Wine, Women and Song Op. 333
Tales from the Vienna Woods Op. 325
Tchaikovsky
Waltz, from Sleeping Beauty Op. 66 *Highly recommended
Waltz of the flowers, from The Nutcracker Op. 71

Thats all for now. I might put up some more recommnendations later.
Oh and your welcome! just trying to spread the word on Classical. We don't get many listeners here huh? quite a shame really. laugh.gif They don't know what they're missing.

i will update it in first post!!

Have you tried listening to the whole Oratorio? Its pretty nice, I like "Worthy is the lamb that was slain" and "Amen"

Why don't you try listening to Orff's famous cantata: Carmina Burana. I'm sure everyone has heard of the remarkably popular "O Fortuna". smile.gif

I'm currently listening to Beethoven's Piano sonatas. Really like Sonata no.17 Op31.2 "Tempest". yeah the 3rd movement also goes by the same name in O2jam, easy song to play lol. laugh.gif
*
if talk about o2jam modified song
there is really alot, like:
'Cannon' = "Canon in D"
'V3' = Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata 3rd mvt
'R3 = Chopin Revolutionary Etude
'Kan Kan' = Opheus in the Underground
'Electro Fantasy' = Chopin Fantasie Impromptu
'Brahms' = Brahms Hungarian Dance #5
'Homoresque' = this is Dvorak same name music
'Amadeus' = Mozart Symphony No. 25, 1st mvt
'Fur Elise' = Beethoven same name music, quite famous, but i aledi bored for it... tongue.gif
'Toccata & Fugue' = Bach Toccat & Fugue in D minor
'Mad Moon Sonata' = Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd mvt

is there anymore??

btw, i didnt listen to whole of the Oratorio...
and thx for your recommendation notworthy.gif

I find all these pieces to be very relaxing. Make sure you have a hot drink in your sofa while you listen to these.  biggrin.gif
Lol, I too am also in need of a new Harddrive. Getting really low on space here. sweat.gif
Please don't refer to the composers as "singers". Although, the term "singer" might be more suitable for Opera performers.
*
woh~ thx for your recommendation again notworthy.gif
i will add this post in first post and put the title as soft music you recommend

and for Jarsanki, like the Greasy Sweet said
composer is the person who compose the music. These master include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach and many many many more!!!

artist is the person who play the music, like Cleveland Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (Symphony Orchestra), or also Yo Yo Ma (cello player), Lang Lang (pianist), Kurt Sanderling (conductor).

singer is under artist, these include Eleonora Jelmini (famous for 'O mio babbino caro'), Luciano Pavarotti

oh ya, (for Greasy Sweet) do you have Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, 1st mvt solo piano mp3??

Added on March 4, 2007, 12:23 pmbtw, if i want to promote classical to other people
you think which music piece i should include in the cd??
(most of the mp3 recording i have is between 128kbps and 320kbps. so, i think it can fit for 50piece)

Added on March 4, 2007, 2:48 pmjuz now i found out the 'Cello Concerto in B minor' by Dvorak also one of the good classical music piece!! thumbup.gif
i will recommend it to everybody
espcially the 2nd and 3rd mvt!!
