@Mov_freak
Never heard about that music before...

By the way, I recommend you all this music: Giuseppe Tartini - Devil's Trill Sonata

This music is almost 300 years old, but still one of the most difficult violin music... Try go to wiki to look for its history...

Oh, you mean "Gloomy Sunday"...
My friend did mention this to me before, but not my interest...

By the way, The Blue Danube is one of the most famous classical music ever...

You can listen and look at the Waltz in this video

Is it normal for people to give applause right after the 1st mvt?
Went for my first ever classical performance showcase and I found it quite surprising. shocking.gif
*
Where you watch that performance?
and is the performer just perform 1 movement only?

Giving applause between every movement seen like only happen on old day. I think unusual for now...
This is the programme note of Elgar's Symphony No. 1 that I read somewhere...
QUOTE
on 3 December 1908. In those days, it was usual to clap between movements, but after the slow third movement, the response was especially warm, and Elgar was called on to the platform to take several bows.

DFP. Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1.
Well, I guess it's understandable why people clapped since the 1st mvt itself is about 20 minutes long. rclxms.gif
It's a mixed scene anyway where most of the audience at the middle and front row didn't clap at all...  sweat.gif
*
Oh... is the piano played by Behzod Abduraimov with Sydney Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy?? shocking.gif
I guess those audience feel impressed by his skill, and forgot that the 2nd and 3rd movement haven't start... sweat.gif

I only go and listen to the Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3, and he really blast me away... rclxms.gif
I can see that he play until the whole piano shaking... thumbup.gif

I'm really excited about the concert next week by London Symphony Orchestra with Daniel Harding as the conductor. Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Mahler's Symphony No. 10!

Is anyone here into Opera?
*
Hmm... I don't know about that concert...
Where it held at?

Oh... no wonder I don't know... tongue.gif

Yea that one. Amazing pianist. rclxms.gif
Didn't notice any piano shaking but his facial expressions really impressive and energetic. thumbup.gif

Overall performance that night was great. SSO + Ashkenazy. notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
They even performed with an extra piece from Elgar(?) after the Prokofiev's  Symphony No.5. Not sure what piece is it.

Man... I wish I have a video recording of that night... cry.gif
*
You go for which night?

I just go for the Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 one. They encored with Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 2 (if I'm not mistaken).

People interested in Beethoven should try and get their hands on this collection recorded by LSO.

Simply brilliant!

Be careful not to be misled by that.  Research suggested that listening to classical music would help boost your mind, but only for about 10 minutes after you listened to it.
*
LOL!!
I also believe that Shostakovich and Bartok's music won't help in boosting your mind. XD
QUOTE(memento @ Jan 16 2010, 03:15 AM)

I thought it will perform today and tomorrow?

I don't know what they will perform, but look at the description...

What made me angry is our self-claim "First Lady of Malaysia" claim that Tengku Irfan is the first Malaysian to admitted to Juilliard... vmad.gif
That statement made me feel like I'm not a Malaysian...
She not only misleading the public, but also over-promoting him. I just hope he still can learn, never be arrogant, and be a more mature pianist and composer in future...

Anyway, I personally think that Claus Peter Flor is not a good conductor.
My reason is very personal: His interpretation is not what I like...
And now with all these news... I really think he is not suitable to be the person that lead the orchestra...

My friend went to the Emperor Concerto concert on Sunday, and he said the Emperor Concerto is a very bad performance. With some obvious mistake in timpani and piano.
I like Paul Philbert very much. I believe he have perform Emperor Concerto many times as timpanist and won't make mistake easily...
After heard of these news, I can understand why he can make mistake. And if I'm him, I will turn the cadenza to timpani solo!!

Another thing that I don't understand is how Claus Peter Flor have so much power in MPO until he can overthrow many great musician, and doesn't care about public view...

Hi Mov_Freak, I didn't listen to all Karajan's interpretation of Beethoven's Symphony (although it is very famous), but I listen to his Dvorak's Slavonic Dances before and it is very nice!

There's sample in here: http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/cat/4474342
My favorite is the track No. 10, Slavonic Dances, Op. 72, No. 2

Just wondering, which seats is recommended in MPO? For Reserve B seats. Thanks

I usually take the seat on left, because violin is at there, and soloist also stand/sit on left
