There's no perfect car which ticks all the boxes for everything you want. Every choice is a compromise. If you want space get an Altis but forget about good safety features and value for money. If you want power and handling get a Jetta but don't complain when gearbox problems hit you.  If you want reliability get a Civic but live with the dated look. If you want gadgets get a Cerato but it handles like a Myvi. Ford and Peugeot make good cars but reliability and after sales service are problematic and RV is terrible.

I've shortlisted Altis, Civic, Sylphy, Cerato, Jetta, Focus, Mazda 3 and Pug 408 but in the end it was the Mazda 3 which gives me the best compromise in price, features, performance, handling, styling, FC, maintenance, after sales service and RV. Rear space isn't the best but I can live with it.

Cars are very expensive in Malaysia. Choose wisely and make sure it fulfills your most important priority but remember there is no perfect car.

Yes, i do agree with you. nod.gif nod.gif

My choice for this car - even I got only midspec (GL Model) - SAFETY with 6 airbags. You miss that out.

For that price, with performance, handling & styling (leather seat and premium interior)  rclxub.gif  is too easy to choose.
*
Yes, I forgot to mention safety which is very important. Mazda 3 has 6 airbags, ABS and Electronic Stability Control even for the GL.

Never really considered Slyphy seriously. It's a 1.8L car for the price of 2.0L.

Altis was also out very early. Spacious but UMW is very stingy with safety features even though price is tops.

Focus and 408 were giving big discounts but too many horror stories on reliability and aftersales service. Jetta had DSG issue.

Test drove Cerato but not impressed. It's can take you from point A to point B in comfort but that's about it.

In the end it came down to Civic 2.0S or Mazda 3 GL. In value for money M3 wins hands down. The Civic 2.0S doesn't even give you bluetooth telephony. The sporty look of the M3 against the dated look of the Civic certainly helps as well.

Well said bro!

My shortlisted were the kia cerato, focus, elantra n Mazda 3, chosen Mazda 3 at the end with no regrets since Ford dtc is not reliable, both the kimci handles corner like sampan and the Numb feeling of steering.

may i ask is it before 1000km better dont speed up over than 100 will better?
*
Wa....you're super cautious leh....i've already sped up to 160kph before hitting 1000km and i usually cruise around 130kph tongue.gif

The sound only happens at certain angle of road undulations and road humps.

i-stop are not able to disable by far. the only possible way is to change the battery to normal battery instead of mazda very own battery. not sure if this will void the warranty but i will change it to normal battery in future after 3 year smile.gif
*
If the service manual is correct, the moment you swap battery, the istop will show error because need to "adapt" the system to the new battery. So, the istop won't work after you swap out the battery icon_rolleyes.gif

Need some advice: Am thinking of buying this car but not sure which is better The Mazda GL or the one with iActive sense.
Is the iActive sense really useful for our roads and does the HUD interfere when driving?

TQ

The only thing that i missed is the Cruise control of the high spec. Since i am travelling outstation frequently. City driving would probably have more usage of the iActive sense.
However, driving for more than 10 years....without all those iActive Sense... so for my case it doesn't mean much to me.
But do keep in mind what are the usual mistake you have that causes accident for you, iActive sense may help you with that. Even with iActive sense it can't guarantee you 100% there wont be any accidents.

HUD is a clear mirror, so it won't interfere with your driving.

Guys, I need some advice. I got my M3 HS for a few weeks now. Due for the 1k service.

My complains is that I'm not getting the FC that I read on here. My avg is still 10.0L/100km and for some reason I cant get the blindspot alert to work.

Is this something to look into because I'm abit worried.

Avg fc is based on your current driving style. Try reset Trip Meter so that you can monitor new fc avg.

What type of road you are getting average of 10L/100km? If it is pure city driving it's possible.

No. Avg FC is from I first started driving. My current FC shows at least 10-18l/100km when i accelerate.

I was nv heavy on the pedal..I accelerate gradually to 2k rpm only until it changes gear. I honestly think its my car issue now. I might record a video to show more of how i actually drive..

For me the feature I miss most from the HS is blindspot monitoring. I think this is really useful to detect cars in your blindspot when you change lane. Smart City brake I can do without as I'm a careful driver. As for cruise control my previous car has it but I forgot how to use it due to lack of use. Most of my outstation travelling is during festivals when highways are clogged so no chance to use cruise control.

It would be nice if Bermaz give us option to add features we want to the GL instead of all or nothing.

Even though no heavy foot but if you go through a lot of traffic lights, jam or roaming around commercial area will contribute to high fc as well. I have even hit average 12l/100km once due to all the aboves. But so far I'm having averagely 8-9l/100km for 90% city driving.

For me, yours is still alright

What percentage of your driving is City and Highway? If your driving is almost all city 10L/100km is not considered high. In fact an average car will give you 12L/100km for pure city driving.

Bro, firstly, the indicator on the side mirror does it works?

Next, does the "RVM" is indicated in GREEN light at the instrument panel there? And also you can do some setting with the MZD like beep volume.
Be remind that the RVM only works when speed above 30 km/h.

About the FC. 10 L/100km is possible when most of the time you are in heavy traffic. Actually, to me, the current FC is useless.. hahaha.. Just to show how light or heavy you accelerate...

yup, current fc is not helping at all. Avg fc might be helping but its all bout how you drive your car.
mine was 6-7L/100km for first 2 months. after that i noticed some increment on avg fc at 8-9L/100km.
that was due to tyre pressure which i never monitor before (that's my fault) and heavy use of aircond/fan (last month quite hot la).

so far my avg fc is 7-8L/100km.

I presume they will. For those car that don't practice 1st service at 1000km, they'll ask you to come at 10,000km after collecting your new car.

The Xenon HID lights need a ballast, not just a simple bulb change. If you prefer brighter/whiter light, ask around for after market bulbs like Osram nightbreaker series. You can search in the garage zone for reference and deals.

Ya...I still think want to change to hid or osram night breaker. Because hid more bright

The first service is at 1000 km. The next one will be at 10,000 km and every 10,000km interval after that.

Changing the bulb to whiter light isn't HID because HID need a ballast. The bulb is a halogen bulb with whiter light but not necessarily brighter.

Unfortunately there is no legal afternarket HID conversion.
