If u hv read, u should be able to find numerous link to sawaddee.com & all the available hotels & the rates are there...expect RM90-RM160 for 3 stars hotel. & Yes they do used metre & if don't go to nxt taxi..there are lotsa taxi in BKK..rate abit higher than KL..start from 30bath onwards if I'm not mistaken hmm.gif

U probably need 2 weeks to cover the 2 cities & 1 resort island. It is easier to start from Phuket >>BKK>>Chieng Mai. 4 days in Phuket, 4 days in BKK & another 4 days in ChiengMai...From Bkk to Chieng Mai, normally tourist prefer taking a train ride.. hmm.gif

QUOTE(t3nchi @ Apr 8 2008, 05:42 AM)
Hi everyone. I tried to read as much as I could in this thread but I just couldn't make it very far. But please help me with this:

I plan to visit Thailand while I'm in msia this june. I plan to hit up ChiangMai, Bangkok, Phuket... will 1-2 weeks be enough? I plan to fly from city to city as they are pretty far. And for the most part, walk a lot or take simple public transportation.

How much do hotels cost a night (say a 3-star) so I don't get ripped off. Also, do they use a meter in their taxi rides? I don't want to be the stupid tourist who gets ripped off.

I appreciate it. It sucks not being able to speak the language but I'll try to pick up some important phrases.

i went to bangkok this year b4 CNY. really enjoyed it. went with my gf, shopped till both of our legs wanna break. shop n shop n shop, money like still cannot finish, coz its so damn cheap. my gf bought dresses for like rm15-rm20 per dress. my t-shirts cost rm10-rm15, collar-t's cost rm15-rm20. end up return flight have to pay for overweight tongue.gif

went to national stadium bought my muay thai pants, Twins special damn nice. satin finish even smile.gif

the food is darn good! never eat at any nice restaurants, just walk and eat anywhere everywhere, small stalls and such. their tom yum kung is fantastic! their pork noodles also damn nice, cheap beer as well smile.gif but the last night too damn tired went mcdonalds and eat pork burger smile.gif

anyways, i stayed at Trinity Silom hotel at silom. very very convenient as its just less than 5 minutes walk to chong nonsi BTS skytrain station.

I will travel BKK next month for my 4D3N vacation & book the hotel (actually is service apartment) at Sukhumvit very near Nana Station.

I have plan to go few place & need your advise:-

1.) Siam Ocean World-What is the ticket price? i go it web say 750bath/person, so expensive if compare klcc only RM30.

2.) Snake Farm- Dont know how to go? Nice ah?

3.) Crocodile Farm-Dont know how to go? Nice ah?

4.) Floating Market-Alot ppl say very interesting for this market, but it will take me atleast half day time, so decide not to go & will try next time.

5.) Grand Palace-Take taxi or river boat? (I think river boat will give me difference sight of bangkok). Afternoon on Khao San road got any interesting activities or any nice food & restoran?

6.) Chatuchak & Suan Lum-Which place the price more cheap ah? Since alot ppl say Chatuchak very crowd & hot / Suan Lum Market is it better?

7.) Show for Siam Niramit-RM100++/ticket. Not cheap. But i & my wife like a culture show so plan to go. The Cabaret show (Calypso) ok ah? all is ladyboy oh.

8.) Any pub or restaurant recomment on Sukhumvit area. (not disco)

Few year ago i went BKK & Pattaya with travel agency & i can say not much attraction on the tours (suck). Everyday bring us go to buy this buy that (expensive than Malaysia) & when help us buy tickets for optional show & go go bar also rise the price of ticket (suck).

No 2 and 4

If you take a package to floating market.Snake and elephant farm are included.Coz the farm's just around the floating market area.Entrance fee to see elephant show is rm15 and snake farm is rm20.Before you buy the tour package.Just ask them.Is the package include entrance fees or not.If not,ask how much is the entrance fees?they may change if peak season.

I kena already.Coz the agent say..half day tour is rm50.Go to floating market, cobra farm, monkey farm, elephant farm and thai handicraft centre.

When reach at the floating market. The boat ride is free but only around the river and outside the floating market area. Not in the market. For 30minute.Then,the tour agent will send you to the market. If you want to ride a boat in the floating market. The charges is rm15 perperson for non motorised boat.Still cheap la.

After that they will go to elephant farm. For riding the elephant.Rm75.Dunno either perperson or perelephant.Dont even bother to see coz.Ride in Zoo negara just cost around rm20.Too see monkey show and elephant show is rm15.

I just lepak outside with other guys..for 45minutes.

Then went to cobra and snake farm. The ticket is rm20 to watch the show.Actually i want to skip this show and just want to lepak out side. Then,i heard they will be a mongoose and cobra fight.I just pay and see.Really worth it.Coz you wont find it in malaysia.

From Grand Palace to Khao San Road very near. You can even walk from khao san to grand palace.Suggest you take taxi river boat to grand palace. For Khao San Road.Famous with backpackers.Price is expensive. If you pro in bargain then ok la.

No 6

Chatuchak is cheap. You can buy almost everything there. The price is cheap and you still can bargain. But its very big and hot.If you want a good bargain.Suggest you go to chatuchak.

Suan Lum nite bazzar is a smaller version of chatuchak. Not that big.Price is ok can consider cheap. But must bargain la.But,i suggest you go to suan lum first to survey the price and then you go to chatuchak.Coz some stuff you can get in chatuchak but not in suan lum. Also, suan lum open every nite from 6pm everyday. But,chatuchak only open in sat and sun.

Sukhumvit road i didnt jalan2 that area.Coz my hotel is around the mbk.In nana i only go around the station for kebab and arab foods.

Around skhumvit maybe bro stimix can help you.If you like the culture show.Try the full day tour.In the morning you will go to floating market and all the farms, then they will take you to rose valley in the afternoon. Its a culture village.Price is rm100 perperson inclusive lunch.

Sumkumvit area is abit quiet durind daytime..The lively part of Sumkhumvit is located around Nana Station i.e surrounding Soi3, Soi4 (Opposite side), Soi 5, & Soi7..There lotsa of pubs & bars around Soi 4 & Soi3...& both side of the roads, lotsa road side souvenirs peddlers..making the area lively..BUT be warned, dun go during daytime..It's like ghost town during daytime..

The closest probably Khao san road that's also far away bcos no MRT/Skytrain to Khao SAn road...its easier to goto Suan Lum Nite bazaar..just take the MRT direct from Chatuchak to Lumpini/Suan Lum..

haha ghost town biggrin.gif I jz book a hotel near Nana Station. I jz worry at nite time, all noisy & disco sound make me can't sleep well.

BTW how much should be bargain on Chatuchak Market ah (50% or more)? If chatuchak can bargain 50% then Suan Lum have to bargain more than 50% lol tongue.gif

I search on internet got some package offer to Floating Market + Crocodile Farm + Elephant Show cost THB1,000. Is it worth?

Not much u can bargain...I hv personally did not shop in Chatuchak although been there (Too bad on weekday! blush.gif )...frankly not much u can bargain....For price reference, check MBK...Those souvenir shirt in MBK oledi fixed pricing normally selling at 90-99thb /each..so u will be expecting about 150thb at Sum Luan & 120bath at Pratunam or 300bath in Patpong!! ..so bargain hard also u probably getting 90bath at Sum Luan, 100bath at Patpong & 80thb at Pratunam....at the end....I always telling myself...hei isn't the cheapest in Bkk also selling in KL hmm.gif doh.gif ..sumore in KL u can get abit lower quality one at RM5 sad.gif biggrin.gif

On the package to Floating market & if u check in virtual tourist, ppl was talking about 600-700bath/pax hmm.gif ...For me, I took a taxi there to/fro=800thb & chartering a motorised boat for 1000thb...so total=1800thb for 3 ppl or 600thb/pax. The taxi guy wanted to bring us to Elephant show, snake farm & etc..but we rejected his offer..nevertheless I only agreed on visiting the gems store (He will get the free petrol voucher to subsidise the cheap fare ..so do those cheap tuk-tuk in BKK too..some said it's a SCAM..well just avoid from buying.). He also bring us to Grand Palace & Khai San road for free after the floating market ride.. thumbup.gif

Enjoy your trip..theres a lot of train in haadyai to bangkok..can choose from 1st class to last class.Depends on your budget.Journey from KL - Haadyai 1 day...Haadyai - bangkok 1 day.So you gonna waste 4 nites on the bus or train.Going there and comingback. So plan properly where do want to go k..
