If you planning to use Mobile XT as the navigation software, I suggest you get a Mobile 10x. But if you planning to use other software eg. Mapking. Other brand also not bad especially Holux.

For Mapking, which map do you use? From Mapking itself or Malsingmaps.com version?

QUOTE(mustang @ Jul 31 2008, 09:27 PM) How did you guys get the GPS to locate your current position and then use the GPS unit to navigate the direction for you using MapKing 2007? I am kinda confused on how to use it Actually when using Mapking after you get position fix, you will see in the map where you are now (road names or building names). Using it for navigation, you need to go to search page where you can find main item eg. hotel, restaurant etc... from there you select which one you need to go. It will show you route from where you location now...

QUOTE(mustang @ Aug 2 2008, 01:55 PM) Meaning when I start MapKing, I just click on the GPS in the main menu, it will automatically detect my location? Do I need to set anything? Ps: I already manage to detect GPS signal using the device. But I am not sure how to use the device to locate my current position? Will the map automatically load according to my whereabouts? thks Yes, as soon as you get position lock. Map will automatically shown your location at that time.

QUOTE(pipedream @ Aug 2 2008, 10:23 PM) Guys, i am using Garmin Mobile XT and Mapking on my TYTN 2, no qualms about the program, but the maps aren`t that complete, anyone knows where to get a malaysia map that is very updated ( at least the most updated )? Sigh, my college isn`t located on the map, but a much smaller and ulu college IS You can drop by to malsingmaps.com for free map. Eventhough you need to contribute for the latest map but their open map was quite OK. You can download map for both application (mapking and GMXT).

QUOTE(pipedream @ Aug 3 2008, 12:17 PM) Hey thanks, I downloaded the Not for Symbian MXT version since i am using a ppc version of MXT, does that means that the map can both be used in Mapking and GMXT? Also, i downloaded some POIs, how to merge them into the .img? Nop, If you download map for GMXT, it can be used only on GMXT software. For Mapking you need to download different type of map. Checkout their download section. For merging map and POI you can used either gmaptool or M3 to combine all the map. For myself I always use sendmap application for combining map.

QUOTE(stevenchee @ Aug 11 2008, 01:28 PM) means i need to pay for GSM everytime i navigating?how much does it cost? do i have to pay for extra software? anyone know how much? You need to pay for data services because it will keep downloading data while you navigating, I recommend you to get fix data plan if your are planning to use this. Plus you need to buy the navigation features from nokia itself before you can use it for navigation.

QUOTE(nvernon @ Aug 18 2008, 01:30 PM) Just want to ask a few question regarding my GPS Nuvi 200. It now pops out a message " Updating GPS firmware" every 15 secs. I have gone to the malsingmaps website to enquire and they told me what I should do but I am still facing this annoying problem. Things i have done is use the Webupdater programme to update the firmware version, rename the GUPDATE.GCD file to GUPDATE.org. By the way bought this GPS from Starlite Technology in Seremban 2 and the dealer is quite arogant and his aftersales service really sucks. I really miss playing with my Nuvi. Rdgs Did you successful update your Nuvi to the latest version using Web updater application? You also can go to Garmin site to check your unit already have the latest version of it firmware or not.

Garmin compatible GPS maps/software (Garmin Que and Garmin Mobile XT) works on WM6, Symbian S60, Symbian UIQ3 and PalmOS format. W760i not using one of those smartphone OSes, though. So you may be stuck with the Google Maps Mobile and Wayfinder Navigation on your W760i that requires data connection.
Google for "GPS j2me", and I see quite a number of apps including TrekBuddy, Trakkcor and GPSj. Perhaps you can try it out but mostly software like this you hardly find any map for it especially in our region.
Good luck...

QUOTE(jimnuz @ Sep 10 2008, 03:19 PM) yup agree...any phone that can support garmin gps can suggest:? the cheapest... My suggestion get a 2nd or new PPC with built-in GPS, you can use Garmin Que (for free) or Mobile XT (need to buy the software). Or buy PPC without GPS and buy Garmin Mobile 10x BT GPS. You can use Mobile XT for free and so other GPS Navigation software eg. Mapking

QUOTE(jelan @ Sep 24 2008, 05:01 AM) i have w760i.. why cannot do the navigation just can view map only.. please help me tq According to some site i visit it had a built-in GPS chip. Perhaps you don't have the right software for navigation. Software preloaded with the phone may be for map viewer only. You can google for navigation software suitable for your phone. Anyway which OS your phone use?

QUOTE(vhs1 @ Oct 21 2008, 02:25 AM) with a BT gps...its easier can keep in the car and i think as a stand alone, its receiver should be more powerful than built in pda? but need an adapter (2 socket) to charge the gps 2gether with the pda right? Powerful or not it depends on where you locate your device. Even standalone GPS cannot be used in the heavy tinted car... Get an external antenna will hep you device getting better reception. For in car charging, most of the BT GPS battery can stands for a long time usage. Through my experience, most of the time PDA need to be recharge since you are using it for another purpose too...
