anyone using this gps device....i guess my fren got con by the seller because he doesnt give the sd card and cd driver

When I'm looking to that page, I'm not really sure what type of unit they advertised since there is no details specification about that device. Perhaps you can describe a bit about that device since you already try it, 1. which navigation software they use (is it Mapking or other software) 2. That device running on what OS? Try to run that device until it get satellite fix and see if your current location was in the map.

One important thing you need to remember before buying any GPS Device, other than the device itself and the navigation software. Availability of map for our country was very important since we intend to use it as road navigation device, but if you are using it for off roads or outdoors activities. It doesn't matter what device you choose.

From the seller page I have seen that this unit use Mapking Navigation software.

http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2008-10D...lsingmap_16.htm

Perhaps you can try to get the satellite fix first and see if it have the map inside it.

here the problem

1)the device got no detect with MS activesync
2)there must be a "secret" suddenly seller hide the cd driver from the box
3)the seller can install mapking into the device but other who buy the product without the 'magical RM RM' sd card are left wonder everyday and night with no cd driver and pening thinking how to make the device able to install MAPking
*
Just wondering, what happened when you click navigation icon on that device. Any software running?

QUOTE(heeheelim @ Nov 5 2008, 11:59 AM)
halo guys!!! It takes 1.5 full days for me to read all these 50 pages of this topic.. sweat.gif
I'm a newbie in gps and is planning to buy a gps called 'GPS BAY 3303' with RM399 as citibank is having a promotion. (http://www.gpsbay.com/index.php?mid=603&p=products-item&id=728).
Anyone tried this gps can share their experience?

I have few questions need to ask all the expert hope you are able to help:

1. My lovely myvi is tinted but not V-Cool. So is there any differences in terms of the satellite signal reception between out side a car and inside the car (edge of the windshield)? Just want to know will the windshield block some signal.... tongue.gif

Normal car tinted normally will not caused interference to GPS reception. Only heavy car tinted will caused inteference.

QUOTE
2. Can an external antena boost the satellite reception or it just an extension which the power of reception is same with the build in antena?

For normal antenna (which not use power), it will not boost the reception power but since it always been placed on the top of the roof, it will get better accuracy than without using external antenna while using it in the car. But there is antenna type been called re-radiating antenna. This type of antenna boost power to received satellite signal and it use power.

QUOTE
3. Is there any reception differences if I place my gps unit to the edge of windshield (without using external antena), and if I place the external antena to the edge of the windshield and connect it to my gps unit inside my car? I ask because I don't 1 to put my gsp unit to the edge of the windshield as it will 'hurt' under direct sunlight (even just few minutes drive) and by putting the external antena outside the car might attract ppl to steal it or break the antena. What do you think? hmm.gif

It no point using getting an external antenna then put it inside your car.

QUOTE
4. Will the vibration from car hurt the gps unit ah?  tongue.gif
It was built to withstand car vibration. It will not hurt your device
QUOTE
5. I remember JPJ doesn't allow ppl to put LCD screen in front of front passenger/driver, will the police block us if he saw the gps unit and take advantage to saman us? i think in malaysia it possible?...  whistling.gif

To be safe, just take out your device while passing any roadblock. But as for myself, so far no problem...

QUOTE
6. Saw many ppl talk about the mapking and malsingmap maps. Can we have a conclusion which 1 is the best? in term of? why?

Thank you guys in advance..... heehee... this forum rock!! it's a 'gps' for questions and answer... heehee... rclxms.gif
*
You can use both at the same time... Malsingmaps.com also produce map for Mapking other than map for Garmin device.

Hi all pda expert bro, how the htc diamond gps work? does it need use data connection like 3G to donwload data or it is depend on software like mapking or google map? thx for reply
*
You can choose to use the data connection (A-GPS) or not to use it. I think you can switch the A-GPS off. But if you choose to use Google Map. It will need continuous data connection. For Mapking or Mobile XT, no need for you to switch on the data connection.

For more info you can visit HTC Diamond LYN's Official Thread special thread leaded by bro baronic.

First of all you must know what OS your phone running now. It will be easier for you to specify your search either it JAVA, Symbian or WM OS.

SE phone running on symbian uiq3. im already installed google map mobile and and wayfinder navigation, but it use data connection & high cost. i need free software like malsingmap.garmin. i think garmin has software on uiq3 platform. can i use garmin map software for sony ericsson gps receiver?
*
There is a Symbian UIQ version for Garmin Mobile XT, but since you are using internal GPS. You need to buy the software by buying miniSD card contain Garmin Mobile XT program from authorized Garmin dealer, after that you can use it for free (no data charge). Other than that you can try visit Mapking website if they have version for Symbian UIQ. For Mapking you need to buy the map license in order to use the map.

Before you buy it. You also can download the software from Garmin website. Download it, install and try it first.

So far I never see people doing straight converting (using software) but you can convert it manually by typing in the coordinate number.

gps can be installed on any pda or just certain pda?

GPS software can be installed in any PDA but if you talking about it hardware off course you need PDA c/w built-in GPS chip. If your current PDA don't have built-in GPS chip you can use Bluetooth GPS.

That was official map. For free maps in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei you can visit malsingmaps.com or malfreemaps.com. You also can learn how to use the BT GPS there. Just go to Malsingmaps.com WiKi section.

btw, how to install the garmin XT into my window mobile based phone? any steps?
*
If your phone already have built-in GPS, you need to buy the card contain Mobile XT. For BT GPS user (Mobile 10x), you can download the software from Garmin site. The installation similar to other program installation. You also need to install some additional support file from that site too. You can refer here the link.

I think it depends on how often do you use that device. For heavy usage better get a standalone GPS device. But for light usage, BT GPS was good enough.

Guys need help here...

My friend recommended this service - www.vshub.com
A shipping service that consolidate and ship ur stuff bek from US. They also give you a US address for u to shop online in US.

So I bought a Garmin - nĂ¼vi 205W Portable GPS from Bestbuy.com coz' fren in US says a lot of good deals there now.

It's USD 190 = RM 700. My sister buy some Victoria Secret stuff and brother bought some clothes - Polo RL for USD30! So we consolidate and shipped back via that service vshub. It's 5kg and cost us about RM235.

We split the charges and there's like 8 items there. Now I scared that I have pay a high price for my Garmin. Coz' we divided by item...my shipping cost is RM30. Total cost of my Garmin 205w is around RM800 coz' got tax...

Is it EXPENSIVE?...I need to know in KL can we find a cheaper price? I search ebay is RM1290 for a 205w. If it's true...then it's worth it else I'm a sucker.
*
I try to search for that model at lelong.com.my. The price you get was less with the price here you can get it here... I can say it still a good bargain you get there.

I think most of standalone GPS device was good for beginner since no need for you to install and configure the software. Just follow the device manual and you are ready to go.
