QUOTE(eurekas @ Aug 28 2007, 04:01 PM) Simply because passing your MBA is more of a certainty, do the MBA. Do your CFA after your MBA (if you still have the stomach for it that is). It's not uncommon for MBA grads to take CFA later, esp. if they are in the relevant industry. |

Hi, is anyone out there going to take their CFA level 1 june 2008? We could form a study group to motivate each other to study..and can some1 point out where to get photostat copies of the books? Spending 1k on books that cannot be resold is too much..

any CFA holder here who's working in the banking or securities industry can give some input on how the CFA certification helps in ur career ? or the working experience is much more important than the CFA qualification in investment ?
do u study full time for the exams after graduation ? or study for the exams while working ? thanks.... |

Exams are every year once, or every 6 months? May consider doing this eventually, since I've been interesting in eventually getting attached to one of the larger investment banks dealing with (m&a, IPOs etc) or hedge/investment funds, and my interests very much lies in forex, stock exchange, finance.
so should be quite interesting to do. This post has been edited by ThanatosSwiftfire: Nov 20 2007, 09:25 PM |

I was planning to do CFA this month. And after I heard the passing rate is quite low (around 40%) and it's very hard to pass, I've changed my mind. I don't think I could give 100% effort to do this course. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage you guys and I'm very interested in this programme. You must be hardworking and put a lot of effort to pass. Don't want to retake the exam and I don't want to spend another RM3000+ to sit for the exam again. I will opt for MBA instead.

Da*mm tough!! PAssed level 1 few yrs back, but falied Level 2 twice!! I am considering MBA, which is much easier, but more expensive and less recognised if u get a cheaper universities, like our UM.To qhw questions, in M'sia Investment Banks, it will only help when you are looking for jobs (or to jump jobs later on) but it doesnt help in ur daily work / promotions. |

passing level one is not hard..as if u r business field..most of the thing u study before..even an enigineering backround like me..i passed level one....but i never study level 2....it is time consuming....and i can not change filed with CFA level one since the job i apply for analyst need related experience and they not bother me at all with no relevent working experince in investment field....
think of MBS in sunway...but i dont think it will be as prestige as in England..... |

Hello Zonx.
I plan to register for the exam before the 1st deadline passes. Is there anything that i need to be aware of when registering? One more thing, I am not certain whether my degree is recognized by the CFA association. Can anyone help me in this? For your information, i am currently in my last semester in one of the local university and i wish to take the exam straight away after this. Thank You!!! |

Are you signing up for dec level 1 exam too? Are the procedures complicated when registering? Please let me know if there is anything that i should keep eyes on. Thank You!!!! I'll be sitting for June exam
It's quite simple to register for the exam. sign up in cfa website. fill in your information. register and pick an exam loc (eg Kuala Lumpur). then pay by credit card. You can view your status is confirmed within 1~2 days after payment made. You will get a parcel from the institute within 1 week. |
