Hi, is anyone out there going to take their CFA level 1 june 2008? We could form a study group to motivate each other to study..and can some1 point out where to get photostat copies of the books? Spending 1k on books that cannot be resold is too much..

....its amazing how people cant post nonsense and yet plan to take it??
To take your level 1 exam you have to be at least in your final year of degree
To qualify for your chartered you need pass all 3 levels, join the CFA society, get 2 sponsors and 4 years of relevant working experience.
Lastly, CFA is actually a course which is more gear towards portfolio management/asset management at the later levels. So unless you intend to be a fund manager there is really no requirement to take this course...

When you sign up you get one free sample exam. For my level 1 i borrowed my friends exam notes from Kasturi...and actually it was pretty irrelevant they focus so much on calculation and level 1 was pretty much basics and theory. But pls dun let me discourage you from taking their notes because the best confidence reliever is to redo exam notes again and again.
Also, you can get Shwesser And Stella exam notes online but you have to pay..there are a few website which also offers at a lower price just try to google it.

Well i am not sure if test centre remains the same but as of the last two years it was held at Sunway Covention Centre, and nope CFA program is not affiliated with any colleges. Some education centres might offer programs specifically on CFA but CFAI is not tied to any of them, reason being to avoid being seen as bias.

QUOTE(monkeydamonkey @ Dec 20 2009, 10:04 PM) Noob question: I'm seriously considering CFA as i am really interested in finance. However, one thing comes to mind though, what is the real benefit of obtaining this accreditation? will your salary triple? double? Are demands in the job market for CFA holders really high? Basically what are your personal reasons for obtaining this accreditation besides to just have it on your namecard? and is CFA really in demand locally (as in in malaysia) thanks Anyway to answer your question in a develop country you might double your pay but not in Malaysia. And yes if you have a CFA you do not have to job hunt, people will headhunt you because to get a CFA you need 4 years relevant exp so it shows that you have both the practical and exp. The real benefit of doing the CFA is that you will broaden your opportunities....that is all if your already on top of your corporate ladder dont waste your time....just go for a MBA or something...CFA is very much technical base and is just meant to prove to people that you know your shit.. in any case i failed level 2 this year sadly...so if there are any level 2 people there doing next year do keep in ctc because we definitely need motivation to study!

what i meant was CFA is very specialised in its field and yes it is more fundamental rather than technical research....
waliaowe - CFA level 2 is definitely harder, i failed last year and it was through self-study..i guess it depends on the person but perhaps i was overconfident since i pass level 1 with ease..
