Zzz... Could you please go to the previous page and read sofspy's quoted response at the top?

Let me past them here for your reference:

....its amazing how people cant post nonsense and yet plan to take it??

To take your level 1 exam you have to be at least in your final year of degree

To qualify for your chartered you need pass all 3 levels, join the CFA society, get 2 sponsors and 4 years of relevant working experience.

Lastly, CFA is actually a course which is more gear towards portfolio management/asset management at the later levels. So unless you intend to be a fund manager there is really no requirement to take this course...

I don't mind noob questions at all. All of us are noobs at some point in time. But people who asks noob questions when the answer is already available makes you wonder: Should they take CFA even?

And to elaborate, yea, CFA is more for people who are interested in asset/wealth/fund/investment management. To make things incredibly simple, means you manage money. The term used differs among the type of clients. Generally,

Asset Management: Handles institutional investors' money (EPF, Khazanah, DBKL, whatever). Retail investors fall in this group also. Retail investors are people who buy unit trusts. So unit trust managers are in asset management.

Wealth Management: Handles High Net Worth Individuals' (HNWI) money. Also known as private banking. Your clients are typically defined as having over US$1 million in liquid financial assets (meaning, exclude own house, cars, etc).

Investment management refers to this whole industry (managing money). This industry controls ~US$64 trillion globally last year (or 2007). And the largest markets are US, Japan, UK. But stating the size in terms of amount managed is misleading. I don't have data on the annual revenue so I can't say much. But the fees charged are usually 2%. So I suppose the industry's size, very roughly, is US$1.28 trillion by revenue?

In Malaysia, I don't know how big asset management is or what opportunities are available. Most people go into managing unit trusts I suppose? Judging from previous posts mentioning unit trust managers. If you want to know more, just check out career opportunities offered by banks/fund houses/investment houses (if available).

Hi guys,

Is anyone planning to take CFA for December 2009?

I'm confused. Let's say if I want to undertake CFA and self study for Dec 2009.

What do I have to do to enrol in the course?

I don't see any registration page in the CFA main website, was I suppose to create an account first then only do my payments? or do I have to approach a CFA branch in Kuala Lumpur.

Create your account in the website and sign up for the exams online (in the website). Payment is via credit card (or whatever stated in the website). As part of your payment, you will receive the curriculum (six volumes of textbooks) which will be mailed to your address in a week's time or two.

I STRONGLY advise you to better start your revisions now if you're planning for the Dec exams so that you'll be fully prepared by then.

Hi everyone,

I plan to take Certified Financial Planning, then just take CFA level alone 1 to strengthen my investment skill. No plan to complete CFA nor be a charter-holder.

What do you guys think, any comment? Appreciate it.

Hello all,

May I know the relevant (working) experiences that are needed in preparing for the CFA Level 3 exam because I heard that experience may be needed to help write the essays. Would appreciate if anyone can share examples of how that particular experience has helped in Level 3 and other related experiences. This question goes out to all Level 3 candidates and those that already completed/passed the exam. Hope you guys can lend a hand to us "juniors"!! Thanks!! biggrin.gif

If you studied hard enough you should be able to pass Level 1. But for Level 2 you have to add in twice the effort you put in Level 1 to pass. That is my personal opinion.

Level 1 is hard. But Level 2 is the killer...

Actually it depends on the individual. However you should start as early as possible before the finals. Come up with a daily schedule and stick to it. Put in at least 2 hours a day. You can visit www.cfainstitute.org where they will give you some basic tips. Seriously, just DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the urgency and do not procrastinate.

Another tip is referring to Schweser books as supplement to the CFA text books. It will help a lot.

CFA is just another professional qualification like ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA for accountants and CFP for financial planners. I can say CFA makes you more knowledgeable but I believe becoming a better analyst comes with experience. CFA is like the gold standard in finance (as quoted in Kasturi College's advertisement). CFA is recognized worldwide and perhaps after obtaining the CFA charter and couple of years of working experience you might wanna take a shot at applying to work in Wall Street.

One disclaimer though: It's not that easy...

The curriculum portion of the fees may be taxed in some U.S. states and Canada. Customs policies vary widely from country to country. International shipments may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. You must pay any additional charges for customs clearance; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Delivery delays may result if customs does not receive appropriate documentation. Contact your local customs office for further information.

I am thinking of registering for level 1, June 2010 exam. Apart from the $1020 for program enrollment and exam registration fees, what other costs i need to bare? How you guys collect the curriculum, and is there any charges imposed in the delivery process? Thank you.

ACCA vs CFA?

Need some help here. I passed my Level 1 CFA by self-study during my undergrad. My degree is in Accounting. I'm interested in both Accounting and Finance.

I'm working right now and considering either ACCA (i got 9 papers exempted) or CFA Level 2 & 3.

In comparison of fees. For Kasturi, ACCA would charge around 10k to complete everything (the remaining 5 papers) and CFA Level 2&3 will cost me a total of RM15k (8k tuition fee + 7k exam fee).

My goal is to opt for an overseas job after 2 years. Which would you recommend, CFA or ACCA? Which is more prestige and more recognised and easier to secure a job overseas?

Thx in advance!

I'm a business degree student and my ultimate goal is CFA and working in the finance field. So I'm wondering if majoring in Accounting and "Banking and Finance" would help me to achieve my goal easier, rather than majoring in economics and "Banking and Finance"? There were so many people telling me that accounting and "Banking and Finance" are like inseparable couple, especially for those planning to work in financial sector. But i think i prefer economics more than accounting and i am not going to work in any of these field if chances are provided. Also, would accounting knowledge helps me while taking CFA exam?

Would really appreciate your info.
