QUOTE(-Max91- @ Dec 30 2015, 09:24 AM) Hi, thanks for the reply. So here's what I understand from your statement is that IF I want to maybe have a chance to have a career in AM/IB, CFA would be useful. But it is also contingent upon the specific job within IB? Because I think only few positions in IB actually need/prefer CFA, most likely the front office ppl. Is that true? But anyway, if I'm not interested in AM/IB then I shouldn't continue to take CFA? Of course it is relevant to only specific jobs in IB (front office). I don't expect you be looking at Operations/Back Office roles in IB. Similarly for Asset Mgmt Operations roles. There are various roles that CFA Charterholders hold, e.g. risk management, treasury, strategic planning, investor relations, corporate finance, equity and economics research etc.. Do you know what you want to do in the long run?

I guess after CFA-certified, one gets more responsibility and more job opportunities, at the same time more stressful and more workload. No easy money, easy life.

QUOTE(Manada @ Feb 9 2016, 09:42 AM) But sometimes your path is not designated as expected right. Like for example, i have a degree in finance but i went into sales and marketing. So having a CFA doesnt really help me in my case unless if I am still looking for finance related jobs for you who already got a degree in finance, no CFA also nevermind. If you want, you can also do a master's degree in finance. I think CFA is more suited for those who want to get into IB corporate finance and asset management.

So having a CFA doesnt really help me in my case unless if I am still looking for finance related jobs Then you should do a qualification from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK. That will be more relevant to your career.

I know a friend who is interested in studying CFA but he's from working in the finance industry. He's working in the medicine field. He's considering CFA because he thinks it will make him make a sound investment decision. What do you think? Do CFA just so that you can learn to invest your own money?? Sounds weird.

Wasting his money and time. Ask him to get a book on investing or attend a course on investing.

I think CFA is more suited for those who want to get into IB corporate finance and asset management. I don't agree with second part.. CFA is suited for those who are already in cf or asset management I.e fund manager or research analyst. Actually , the most suited is obviously asset management. Lol QUOTE(fino_abama @ Feb 11 2016, 12:04 AM) Wasting his money and time. Ask him to get a book on investing or attend a course on investing. Nah.. Don't have to enroll but captain sparrow the books la.. I meant dl the CFA books and read for fun. Cause CFA taught me how we can cheat in investment. Lol
