I can't even register.. I'm an ACCA affiliate.. only ACCA members are allowed to register for CFA.. I'm thinking of making use of the time right now to study while gaining my membership.. that's the reason why i'm asking about the changes in syllabus.. dont want to waste my time studying something which will not be coming out in CFA..

why pointless? in fact it is the best time to take cause ur memory are still fresh from your uni stuff.

average 1 hour per day during weekdays, 4-5 hours during weekend/pbulic holidays. started in end oct i think.

Just want to share my experience as a CFA candidate for interested in taking.
Taking the coming December 2015 exam and been studying for 6months.

As many has said, CFA institute recommended 300 hours of studying the materials. personally, I fully agree with the recommended time and would suggest even more.

That is because the safety margin to pass the exam is at least 70% (168 our of 240 MCQ). I can tell you that the exam is no joke even for candidates with finance and accounting background.

To put it in perspective, ONE hard equity question is something like a 20 marks 'essay' type question during my unversity's finance paper. In CFA lvl 1, that can be just 1 question instead.

The fact that Ethics comprised of 15% of the whole paper does not make it any easier. Doing ethics question with just brief reading and hoping your common sense will help you and you will surely fail the section.

With that being said, I dont encourage taking the paper during your final year unless you have a strong will and prepare to have no social life. Dont take the exam lightly is a sincere advice I can give.

uh no... IMO, the equity section not as hard as uni. i think you are exaggerating. tongue.gif

further, the paper is tailored for part time studying. i think you have more time to study in uni compared to part time studying full time working. and yes, no social life. sad.gif

I dont think you can buy reference book for CFA in bookshops.
Usually third party vendor like Schweser or Wiley provides notes and question banks.

But they sell it in package and it is quite expensive. Check them out online.

Hi guys,

Recently I just took my Level 1 CFA exam (December 2015), which I think I should be able to pass. However, I am unsure if I should continue to take level 2 CFA and I would like to seek for some opinion from someone here who had completed all 3 level CFA.

The reason for my dilemma is that I am unsure of the usefulness of the CFA certification in my career. Here's my background:
1. I graduated with a double major in economics and business (specialise in finance) degree.
2. Currently I work as an Economist in a exchange. *Note: I'm not a macro-economist where I analyse the economic outlook/gdp and etc, rather I'm a micro-economist which I work on project-by-project basis on projects that govern a specific commodity market such as market rules, price discovery mechanism/formula, governance, analysing bidding behaviour, creating methodology to determine margin call, prudential requirement and etc and etc.
3.Most of my predecessors of my job continue to move on either to energy consulting industry or other commodity firm but none of them ended up in a bank.

So i'm unsure if CFA is useful for me.

Thanks.

I would recommend that you complete all three levels if you would want to move to asset management/investment bank jobs.

Ultimately it is how you plan your career path. You do not need to end up like your predecessors.

Hi, thanks for the reply. So here's what I understand from your statement is that IF I want to maybe have a chance to have a career in AM/IB, CFA would be useful. But it is also contingent upon the specific job within IB? Because I think only few positions in IB actually need/prefer CFA, most likely the front office ppl. Is that true? But anyway, if I'm not interested in AM/IB then I shouldn't continue to take CFA?

CFA more useful for AM and research than IB. Anyone taking the CFA in June? Interested in forming a study group.
