i see, it might be due to the fact that ur RAM is not enuf. As u know, BT is godly that uses any maximum connection possible for the sake of downloading and uploading. . Dead connections arent removed, and new connection are added. Your state table gets bloated. I think u might hav to refer to this link for a short term solution. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...dpost&p=9007281
Actually kan, most NICs out thr in the market would do. and the Qos is controlled by linux.

yup, you'll need a PCI dsl modem for that.
unfortunately PCI dsl modem or internal dsl modem is not popular in M'sia, hard to find one,
i bet when u ask those noobs working lowyat shop abt a PCI dsl modem, they sure shoot u back with ignorant high tone stating that no such things, and they think u are noob. LOL back on them  tongue.gif

Well, 256MB should be enough for 5k-10k state. (my pfsense show max around 4.5k state) It could be other things...not sure yet...no time to dig in to the system log and check. Maybe i will just add in another 256MB RAM n see how.

About the NIC, i was refering to FreeBSD ALTQ supported card (pfsense is base on FreeBSD)...not all NIC that can support ALTQ. Another thing is not all NIC chip are equal...their real world through out performance is different when using different chip. Don't expect a RM20 NIC can out perform a more expensive NIC like 3COM or Intel.

Even u do find a internal ADSL modem, remember to check whether got driver support from the DIY OS of ur choice.

Too many things to read..too little time!! biggrin.gif

It's true that not all NICs perform equally (my friend got burned off a bunch of unmetered 100mbps servers he's renting as the onboard VIA Rhine NIC maxes out at 92mbps). However, when you're talking about some lowly 1Mbps link, seriously any NIC will do.

True...for WAN speed like 1MB will make no different. Only LAN or WAN speed at 100Mbps above will make big different. Other things is on board VIA NIC or realtek based NIC tend to use more CPU processing power..of course, ppl won't notice this as CPU today is really fast now compare to old days.

got one question regarding the hardware. I prefer to boot the software tru usb-drive (pendrive), considering only new motherboard can support usb-boot features so old platform like PIII is out from my list. On thing in my mind, most of the new motherboard uses ATX power supply, so whenever there is power failure we need to turn on the machine ourself rite? This is not a good news for dedicated router (unmanaged 24hr router).

So, anyone have a solution to make ATX power supply to work as AT power supply? Mean that it will boot up without the need to press power button manually (whenever there is power failure eg blackout etc)...

Nevermind...i found the solution already...

Hi to all,

I'm bek after missing for sometime. anyway i got another comp. and install it with ipcop. Here is the spec,

Pentium 200Mhz
96MB ram
80GB hd biggrin.gif

I've been using it for a week. and it work like a charm rclxms.gif

I've did some reading and I'm planning to do 2 things.

1. BT server - meaning install the bit torrent client and download files using the server and not using my laptop

2. File server - Samba maybe?

but there is some concerns, will my pc spec able to support all this?? will it hang or become slow? unsure.gif

What web torrent client should i use? torrentflux? or there is a better client? wink.gif

well i dont think i can test out the BT server thing in the coming weeks. If you know what i mean. whistling.gif

im quite new to linux and i'm trying to test to install ipcop on virtual machine before getting an old machine to really do it. so far i'm able to get it running. i'm trying to get some programs to work in it, for example webserver and BT server.

but how do i compile and install from source ? ipcop doesnt have any development tools. i tried compiling in ubuntu and then copy it to the ipcop but it cant work? how do i do it?

m0n0wall is under freebsd linux. u don't need to preinstall any linux distro, just install the m0n0wall. it has everything inside...

old pentium 2 is sort like old ferrari car running m0n0wall!

hey syyang, do you have any idea how to route my local IP to a Domain in the internet ?
I read the guide you made before, but that requires ipcop which i dont have any extra computers to work on.
So im wondering whether i could change any setting on my router so it'll work ?
Im using a DSL-G604T D-link router though.

For those interested,

I got a bunch of conexant pci adsl modems for sale. Works out of the box with ipcop and 100% supported.

Rm30 -new- ( cd, manual, phone wire and sealed card) PM me.

I tested it this weekend with IPCOP 1.4.13 and installed without a clitch. Fully compatible with streamyx. COOL stuff.

Last time i tried it on DSL-500T. The linux distro installed in dlink router is Busybox.
Too bad it wont work. =( Prolly it cant save the information I've entered. Maybe its installed in a ROM. not sure, just my guess.

As for me, i would choose to use WAP(wireless access point, its something like a wireless switch) rather than a wireless router.
Because when you use a wireless router, its behind NAT service and your ipcop uses NAT service too. And your computer will be double NATed. That would a make port forwarding a hell.
Anyhow, you still online and surf the and do your stuffs even you're behind 2 NAT.
Just your choice.
