AM300 modem --> WAN
PC--> Switch ---> LAN

red interface is the one connected to the modem.
green is connected to you switch

My LAN show the IP 192.168.1.1 but the WAN show NONE (PPPOE). I try to connect from the WAN interface but nothing happen! unsure.gif Still NONE! It won't dail!! dunno which part fail. I even try switch the interface but still same.

Welcome to the DIY router community. anyway, hows the performance?
Performance wise..dunno ler..my still can't surf net after long overnite BT session with or w/o the traffic shaper (pfsense show around 4500 state...I'm still exploring the traffic shaper option) hmm.gif Dunno whether is my pc problem...after restart pc can surf net oredi. I never restart the pfsense box except i reset the state.

Do u know the traffic shaper optimum setting for 1MB line/ BT/ surf net? Pls let me know any other tips and trick if u know any smile.gif I was busy painting my house, no time to really test or configure it properly. Tomorrow i should some time to visit the forum or testing the pfsense options.

guys.. im abit confuse.. how do u turn ur box to a router? so means how many NIC would i need on my computer which i just converted into a router? Just say if i want to connect to 3 PC to the router

modem==>  p2(router)  ===> pc
*
If u r using/ testing pfsense..pls remember that cheap NIC is not recommended smile.gif Try to get 3com 3c905 or Intel pro 100 or higher NIC. (this 2 NIC support ALTQ feature = QoS) Pls google for more info on NIC that support ALTQ in FreeBSD.

erm.. guys.. instead of using a switch.. i have a aztech 600EW.. do u think that can use a switch? at the box it says it has a 4 port 10/100 auto MDIX switch. If its possible to support.. then is it recomended? cos i want to find a alternative to my current aztech router.. after few hours of BT.. i cannot surf, need to restart the router only can surf..

Yup! u can use the wireless and the switch function if u want..just disable the router function and ur DIY router as gateway smile.gif

i see, it might be due to the fact that ur RAM is not enuf. As u know, BT is godly that uses any maximum connection possible for the sake of downloading and uploading. . Dead connections arent removed, and new connection are added. Your state table gets bloated. I think u might hav to refer to this link for a short term solution. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...dpost&p=9007281
Actually kan, most NICs out thr in the market would do. and the Qos is controlled by linux.

yup, you'll need a PCI dsl modem for that.
unfortunately PCI dsl modem or internal dsl modem is not popular in M'sia, hard to find one,
i bet when u ask those noobs working lowyat shop abt a PCI dsl modem, they sure shoot u back with ignorant high tone stating that no such things, and they think u are noob. LOL back on them  tongue.gif
*
Well, 256MB should be enough for 5k-10k state. (my pfsense show max around 4.5k state) It could be other things...not sure yet...no time to dig in to the system log and check. Maybe i will just add in another 256MB RAM n see how.

About the NIC, i was refering to FreeBSD ALTQ supported card (pfsense is base on FreeBSD)...not all NIC that can support ALTQ. Another thing is not all NIC chip are equal...their real world through out performance is different when using different chip. Don't expect a RM20 NIC can out perform a more expensive NIC like 3COM or Intel.

Even u do find a internal ADSL modem, remember to check whether got driver support from the DIY OS of ur choice.

Too many things to read..too little time!! biggrin.gif

It's true that not all NICs perform equally (my friend got burned off a bunch of unmetered 100mbps servers he's renting as the onboard VIA Rhine NIC maxes out at 92mbps). However, when you're talking about some lowly 1Mbps link, seriously any NIC will do.

True...for WAN speed like 1MB will make no different. Only LAN or WAN speed at 100Mbps above will make big different. Other things is on board VIA NIC or realtek based NIC tend to use more CPU processing power..of course, ppl won't notice this as CPU today is really fast now compare to old days.
