Hi, any input for the following ultrawide if one is better than the other?
Spec wise look quite similar expect for some different that I can figure out below. Mainly will use it for programming task.

Thanks.

Dell S3423DWC - (around 2k) Link
34"
USB-C PD 65W
Max Brightness 300cd/m2
Release year: 2022/23

LG 35WN75C-B -  (around 2.5k) Link
35"
USB-C PD 94W
Max Brightness 240cd/m2
Release year: 2020

The LG maximum brightness is also 300cd/m2, the 240cd/m2 is minimum brightness.

Not sure to pick which, only know LG had extra HDR support but will be bad as it is lower than 400 nits minimum requirement and HDR recommended 600 nits.

Oh yes, both are 300cd/m2. The panel spec look so similar, i wonder if they are the same.
As for the HDR, I'll just assume both have none.

Thanks for the correction.

Hi Guys, Just get my Acer 34 inch, I not sure how to make it 2k resolution.
I saw the specification as below
Max Resolution: 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD); Refresh Rate: 144Hz

I connect this through the free cable 2k-4k high speed cable hdmi.
I went to resolution able to get is 2560 x 1080.
How shall i troubleshoot it?

Is it due to laptop problem? My laptop graphic is UHD 620 and MX150.

i think you will require to use DP cable to get use of full resolution and refresh rate.

That is because UHD 620 only came with HDMI 1.4 which is not enough for run at 3440x1440 144hz. It only maximum to 2560x1440 75hz or 1920x1080 120hz.

You can try custom resolution but it will only able to run 3440x1440 30hz which will be very choppy performance.

I think HDMI is fine, i tried using my alternate laptop with same cable it able to get 3440 x 1440.
Maybe my laptop need some tweaking or it don't support.

When i custom it with that resolution it give me error "The custom resolution exceed the maximum bandwidth capacity".
I tried 2560 x 1440 30hz also failed. Maybe i try to check if i able to force my MX150 GPU or not.
I run game which should auto use mx150 but max i get 2560 x 1080.

Edit : After updated all the driver nvdia and also intel. Nvdia seems doesnt do much, from version 4xx to 5xx.
Intel updated the latest one from 2x to 3x. Use the intel command centre able to add custom resolution.
2560 x 1440 give me a weird non full screen - side left and right black bar. Do you guys do customize or strech?
3440 x 1440 the highest hz is 44hz. - Can add 30 40 44 but when choose 40 or 44 it will mention "error occured" Something went wrong applying settings. Pelase try again.
Now i using this, but the text looks abit blury compared to 2560 x 1080. Tried to scale 125% better a little but still 1080 give better(cant 4 screen tho)
Aside when we watch youtube / movie kodi etc is it normal there is black bar due to aspect ratio?

It had nothing to do with your MX150, that is only for gaming processing. The main issue is the HDMI is version 1.4 and version 1.4 had not enough bandwidth for such resolution and refresh rate.

They is only 4 options
  • return the monitor
  • use in not native resolution which will be blur and pixelate
  • buy a new laptop or PC
  • use USB doggle with display out but this will totally skip your MX150 which means you can't gaming. The output is not as nice as render using GPU. I use before last time when I want connect 2nd monitor to my old laptop which had only one HDMI.
When the movie is 16:9 aspect ratio, black bar will be there, this is correct way to watch as maintained aspect ratio is important, not stretching. If the video in 21:9 but recorded with 16:9 (all blu-ray) then you will have top, bottom, left and right black bar, this issue you need to use 3rd party player that can custom zoom to remove the top and bottom black bar.

OK I think i get what you mean.
What mean by native resolution? - its depend on the monitor screen size and resolution support right? - when i put 3440 x 1440 30hz some area more noticeable blur such as google chrome header(the tab) word.
Ya, waiting for next gen budget i5 to build 1 pc.
What third party player you use? when watching YT or other movie it feels a bit weird as not full screen. only when i search YT21:9 i able to watch some nice like avatar trailer.

I just check my laptop spec which is HDMI 1.4b, now i know why i only can put max 3440 x 1440 30hz, and now the pc recommended is 2560 x 1080.

Native resolution means actual resolution the monitor came from. For example the monitor you buy is 3440x1440 and that is the native resolution. You can set as 2560x1440 which also run native with black bar left and right. Always look for the height resolution as native, in your monitor that is 1440. Anything below it will be not clear and pixelate.

Any video should watch in it actual aspect ratio
Black bar is nothing and it look far better than stretching to fill the screen.

For local film, I use PotPlayer or Plex.

I will only use as 3440x1440 but your output cannot reach at least 60hz is very choppy. Since 2560x1440 also 30hz, they is no point set as this resolution.

So it depends on your choice as either 3440x1440 or 2560x1080 as both also not a good choice for the moment.

For movie if it is 16:9, they is very OK and should be playback with left and right black bar.

using 3440 x 1440. my company laptop support hdmi2 and its quite nice.
However my old laptop using it on 30 hz, i guess this hz matter perhaps. The text i get in company laptop are more clearer compared my own laptop.
Opening pdf and excel etc on this native resolution is awesome... Too bad need wait for i5 launching to get my rig to enjoy this..

34" - from monitor screen to my chest 60cm, around 65cm when lazy seat.

I don't have 42" display, but it will probably similar distance also.
