aaaaaaaand it arrived today!!
I have no picture to show, but here's what I thought (First Impression from a non-gamer).
Build Quality =
A bit filmsy. When I use menu buttons and all that, the whole thing kinda wobble. I'm not sure which is better, V-stand or big fat flat stand, but I think V-stand might give better support. Then what is bad in my book? Back in the days, Samsung sell a very wobbly LCD monitor. That is bad. I'll never forget it, because that's what most CC uses.
Things in box =
I am a big fan when supplier/manufacturer includes display cables. This comes with 1x DP, and 2x HDMI. +1 in my book <3
Ports on monitor =
Again, big fan. Saves me the trouble plugging in-n-out from CPU case. +1
Screen real estate =
It's (almost) edge-to-edge display. I like it!
Curvy screen =
It's my first time using it, and my daily driver is a macbook pro. Scrolling window side-to-side is very... comfortable. It feels like Spider-Man scrolling an interface when he's making a new suit.
Screen quality/color =
Ah, the elephant in the room! Honestly, it is true that the color setting out of the box is pretty bad (Standard setting). But I find the default custom settings are quite good, at least the white looks pretty white to me! (default custom setting has everything in 50%. 50%RGB 50%CMY etc )
Black is very black. My MBP can only output 1080p via HDMI, so I have leftover screen real estate on both sides, and I get to compare the black on the side. It looks like they're the same (97% ish or more, I feel)
I am getting a Thunderbolt2 DP cable, and that should allow me to use the entire glory of this monitor.
Then what about black smearing?!
I haven't experience anything like that just yet :/ It wasn't as obvious to me.
Verdict:
At a RM1900(Dell Malaysia website) price point, it is actually a decent buy. I like how it looks, how it feels, and the extra functions it provided. Getting the right color can be a pain in the ass, but it is definitely not the end of the world.
Bro, can comment on the HDR performance of S34222DWG? i know is a hdr400 panel without local dimming but the VA panel seems ok if not at total dark condition, brightness can get 500+nits based on rtings.
