QUOTE(rockdaman @ Jun 9 2008, 05:39 PM)
i got an offer for contract sg IT job which through the agent. The agent will be negotiating the salary & benefits behalf of me.

i would like to know whether the higher salary package i got better for the agent or lower the better?

Do my salary will be lowering down due to through agent?
*
It depends heavily on how is your contract.
If you are outsourding to the company under the agent account, its not necessarily the higher salary they pay to agent will go to you, the agent might press your salary even the company pay to them quite high.

If you are under direct contract of the company and agent just help to do the recommendation and documentation, they will try negotiate for you as the higher they negotiate for you the higher commission they can get.

This is correct. Unless the agent tells you that you will be hired under the client directly, you are usually under the agent's company, the salary are usually lower.

I am hired under the client, the agent is just a type of middleman.

but i am going to ask for higher price on what they negotiated. There is no harm right.

Yes, the higher your salary, the more commission they have smile.gif If you are over the limit, the agent should know as the client has given them a range of salary to hire. Good luck friend. wink.gif

Hey the fellow banker.
Comparing to Malaysia, Singapore may not be that racist, but Singapore is not that fair and equal as well..

As far as for Malaysia candidates are concern, Chinese is still preferred, Indian, then only Malay (comparing only these 3 races, knowing that there are indeed more races in malaysia). Easy, just look at how many Chinese, Indian and Malay get to SIngapore..get real...

All countries employers are human, there can never be more than 50% non-racist, non-sexist, etc etc..

Ppl in SG don't discriminate against race. If you're good you're good .. like all employers they just want a good staff that's all.. if you are a lousier candidate compared to another candidate who applies for the same job you'll lose for sure...

There's no such thing as chinese stands a better chance than malays and all those crap...

True, but there are still some advertisement with that kind of preferences sometime ago, but now has reduced.... Can't really get rid of it... the minstry had issued directive to companies seeking employees to be more open in its advertisement especially some just prefer chinese or speak chinese requriement without really the need of it. However, such cases had been reduced but may still be some being advertised.

However, Gov sector and big corporation, reputed companies do not have such string attached to their employement advertisement..... I work in SG Gov sector, ... not everything is really that well, but at least, people do practice what they preach.. less those bad sheeps... they are every where aren't they.. not just in SG.... I guess, some of us faced them at work while some don't at all.

As with regard to race, never happen at all in Gov sector, that's not the criteria for selection and even promotion and apointment of post, much depends on the supervising team, sometimes, being malays/indians can be an added advantage because minority also needed to be represented...Just quote you a case, many years back when SG was looking to fill the role of President to replace the last president, it was already known that the likely candidate would be - should comes from minority race even without the Gov saying so. During the searh, my CEO was rumoured to be linked to the position because he is an indian singaporen with india/Sri Lanka origin with many asking... as he was seen as one potential candidate.

i m wondering what is really going on between the hiring company and the agent. It has already passed 7 days since the hiring company agree to hire me.

A bit worried, does it take so long to prepare a contract and offer?

If you are worried, give the agent a call. I am sure you have the phone number. Usually they need more than 10 working days to prepare your employment pass, especially when you have never worked in SG before. That is assumed that they really need you.
