QUOTE(MICHEAL_ANGELO @ Jan 17 2008, 05:22 PM) i have been called up by EDS (or EPS) of singapore to be a IT administrator in an secondary school but the offered salary is very low .. only SGD 1300 and it is a 1 year contract based. Should be ok with current living standard. But I doubt if your goal to work in SG is just to survive i want to ask whether SGD1300 is sufficient for me to survice in SG or not? BTW SGD1300..., maybe working in those electronic factories as operator can earn more than that figure? This post has been edited by Find The Way: Jan 17 2008, 09:52 PM |

QUOTE(terencetoo @ Jan 18 2008, 12:25 AM) guys,,.. well, IMHO, better wear formal. You will see lots more formal dressing working people in sg compare to Msia. It does make me look weird around the office area. Because my company dress code is casual im going to S'pore this sunday. They will have walk in interview for the career fair.. Can i know what should i wear? Formal or semi formal ( long sleeve + formal pants+ leather shoes)? i did apply a few jobs since last week till now no news at all. Thanks guys I guess nobody will have any issue that you has dress "too formal", also make you look more serious about the job and respect to the interviewer. No need prepare, As long you can find the company that willing to hire you, they will handling all the permit processing and tell you what to do.Most employer are looking for long term for foreign working, else it will wasting time, cost & effort for applying you a working permit/pass for short working period. I suggest read through "Working Life in Singapore" thread to get a better idea and learn more it. This post has been edited by nameless: Jan 18 2008, 01:00 AM |

Better to get a perm job else where as i'm currently attached as a contract base agent via a outsource company. I've ask around and those outsource company is taking more then 50% cut from your pay. So watever u get now is jus half of wat u're suppose to get. |
Singapore housing sipe jialat! 400 to 600 for small room. F***!
Yes a room in SG is very very expensive especially in town or West area near public transport etc MRT. My room in Clementi Ave 1 cost me SGD450 for a common room. That was a year back. Now the rent is about 5XX. But if u're working near Woodlands or North side you can opt to stay in JB as travelling shud be tat far. I'm working in West area near Alexandra, it takes me 3 hrs to go and return from work by bus and MRT. If i drive to work it's about 20 mins drive from custom(if no traffic jam). Very costly to drive to work. I only drive to work on weekends, Sat and Sun as VEP(vehicle entry permit) is free. VEP perday is SGD20. If day shift parking is about SGD15, nite shift is about SGD5+-. If i woke up late like after 6.15Pm, then i'll jus sleep back as it's almost impossible to get to work on time. jus drive and bear the pain of hearing ur dollars flying. Normally I'd wake up around 5.30 jus to get to work by bus. You have to give and take, staying in JB is not that dangerous as always seen in Tv, jus depends on which area u stay and how vigilent are u. U have to take care of urselve. There would be no such problem if u're styaing in SG. U wake up 3am wanna go eat, no money? Jus walk to any atm and take 3K oso nobody kacau u. I only work 15 days a month so it's more pratical that i stay in JB. I eat sleep and spend RM while i earn SGD. If u're working normal office hour, still recommend u to stay in SG unless u have motorbike to go to work. biking to work u have to wake up early, and i really mean very very early, u have to reach custom by 5.30 if u dun wan to be in the motorbike rushhour jam. i've tried bike once only and i rather pay more driving into work. VEP for bike perday is SGD4. Toll is free if u're using Causeway. Toll for car is SGD1.20 upon exiting SG. That should sums up most of the info u need to know.
MNC prefer PR and Singaporean cos they dun have to pay for the bond and visa. The fees for each category is differrent dependin on ur education background. SPM per head is about SGD400-500 per month for Msia, other nationality differs. PR is not tat easy nowadays unless u have a very high education certification. High pay and reference from employee also plays an important role in the PR application process =) This post has been edited by GeneJin: Jan 18 2008, 09:00 AM |

Do u think u would stick to ur job till end of days? -.-" There's no need to get angry over my comment 1st job will always be a stepping stone to another better opprortunity. Everyone deserve a chance to start work in SG.. for myself as i went thru in looking for job in SG, i felt so difficult and cant find a proper help regarding this matter.. no matter the job is a stepping stone or not, or is going to be a job which u going to stick till the end of the days or not, is not important rite?? the most important everyone can have a fair chance to start their work and begin their life in different place they choose.. im just doing them a favor thats all. In here though loyalty is not an issue, is really up to individual. if u work for money maybe u will be loyal to money, if you work for career then you will loyal to your company. is different practically. but still you still need the very 1st step rite? so whats wrong with providing 1st step? and btw im not outsourcing company or headhunter myself.. im a employee for a company. is jz by chance i got to know a "lobang" work thats y i intro it in here. thats all.edit : I've seen ur updates. no wonder u're so angry -.-" i'm not saying u're robing them of their income, i'm jus saying that outsource company is the 1 earning big bucks off our a$$, dun think my comment has any mistake in it, right? |
