Like that better two sata m2 compare to one 2.5 ssd rite? I mean i can buy one first then another one when i have some extra bucks

*
yes. you can do 1x ssd as os disk, 1x ssd for apps/data/downloads; or you can use raid 0 to boost disk speed (using 2x ssd with same model if possible). it's true that raid0 is risky if your data is important. practice regular backups will help minimizing risks.

What is raid 0? Sorry for spoonfeeding. New in this. Haha
*
terminology - redundant array of independent disks (RAID)

a type of configuration by combining 2 drives for more storage and increase I/O performance (for RAID 0).
in this setup, the data in both of the drives will be split but it does not tolerate redundancy. hence, it is not advisable for booting OS drive.

SIDE NOTE : assuming with my available budget for this year, i may get an AW17. biggrin.gif

for os only, i think it should be at that size. (depending on many things like your ram size; for page file, hibernation file, and other system-related stuff). if your system have 16gb ram or more, you can turn page file and hibernation off. (meaning more free ssd space for your own use)

today's games are huge. with only one or two titles it will make you scream for more space these days. that's why i suggest you get at least 512gb.

I have a question about the on-site repair work performed by Dell technician, on my Alienware laptop, in my home.

If somehow Dell technician accidentally damage my laptop by his fault during the repair work, can I request for an identical replacement laptop from Dell, as a compensation for the accidental damage?

Thank you for your advice.

usually they will report and change damaged parts.

my laptops were serviced many times by them. they have handled my laptops with care in all occasions.

just ask them to help they will help normally. usually they don't bring anything but parts to be replaced. you can prepare cleaning tools for them (cleaning alcohol, cottons, thermal paste, etc)

yes the service is when the warranty is valid.

Lowyat Plaza have plenty. There's 2 Dell stores, one under SNS Network and the other Brightstar.
Or you can simply visit Gaming @ Brightstar at 4th floor of the building.

Win10 doesn't seem to like that or maybe I did it wrong. I keep getting low memory error if I turn off page file even though my RAM usage isn't full. Yep 16GB ram.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience, horns. thumbup.gif

Dell technicians, whom I normally get in my area, are not really working for Dell, because they are really Dell-appointed subcontractors. Note that I do call the official Dell Support Telephone number, to request for on-site laptop repair.

Most of the times, they are more experienced in repairing Dell laptops. If they are deployed to repair an Alienware laptop, the technician may just quickly browse through the Alienware Service Manual just before coming to my home, and may not have the actual experience in repairing an Alienware laptops which, as we all now, are custom-built gaming laptops.

On an occasion, after the technician removed the air vents and tried to reinstall the air vents back in my laptop, the technician could not place it back, because the area was too tight, and the graphics card fan and heat sink were blocking the pathway. So, the technician was exerting a lot of strength to forcefully install the air vents back in my laptop. sweat.gif Thankfully, the air vents and other components of laptop still function well.

Maybe, you all can get fully qualified Dell technicians to service your laptops. I do not have the luck, and got the less competent technicians. I am concerned that the lack of experience of the technician may damage my laptop. Thus, the technician may refuse to be responsible for the fault, and I am left with a damaged laptop.

I still prefer to get my laptop to be officially serviced by Dell, as a warranty is given to such repair. I just do not encounter the very few irresponsible Dell-appointed technicians who is afraid that reporting the part damaged by his fault may tarnish his key performance index, and thus reduce his commission and salary.

Thanks again. smile.gif

oh; weird one of my laptops has only 16gb; i turn pagefile off and has no issue. maybe it's because of the software we are using?

yes they're the same in my area; sub contractors smile.gif

well maybe it's bad luck for you; however unlike more recent models, mine are older ones that can do teardowns pretty easily. unless it require replacement parts, i do my own teardowns for cleanups too. since i read service manuals myself, i did remind them when they were about to do something not normal lol

afaik, they report everything right after onsite inspections and repairs; there is a form that you need to sign off when the job is done, with problem descriptions and solutions iinm. so far none of them have bad comments from me yet.

Anyone owns the new Alienware 13 R3 with QHD (2560 x 1440) OLED touch display?

How is the GTX1060 gaming performance at 1440p with ultra high graphic settings? Is it able to hit 60fps or need to change medium/high graphic setting to hit 60fps? Any sifu can provide benchmark link?

As I am going to buy soon, I will have to decide between FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS display and QHD (2560 x 1440) OLED touch display. I do not wish to buy an overkill display which the CPU and GPU cannot handle the performance. Any sifu can advise please?

Thanks in advance!

I also have the urge to buy AW13 R3 without the OLED (RM1.6k additional ??)

My last 2 alienware laptop M11x & M14x still working but i think they at their bottleneck already.

M14x (GTx555m model) with win 10 also feel sluggish even after fresh install

So is it recommended to get AW13?

My preference now is compact and easy to bring out travel

Yeah probably the software used. It was okay back in Windows 7, and Windows 10 doesn't seem to like it. I set back the pagefile and problems solved. Never went and find out why.

I ordered the one without OLED before that option is available. The OLED is definitely a nicer addition especially if you're doing photo/video edits. I'm just going to get it to play some games so 1080p is okay for me. Expect to get it on 20th Feb.

you can try set up a custom pagefile with size 512mb minimum and 1024mb maximum, if that's the case, and see if w10 runs ok.
