hi there, is there any shop that i can get latest alienware 13/15 ?Instead of buying online

there are some shops at lyp selling aw. there is a dell shop at ground floor too.

Got the ASIC quality of the card yesterday.

Clevo Nvidia GTX 970m 6GB GDDR5 70++%
MSI Nvidia GTX 970m 3GB GDDR5 60++%



I tried to unlock the vbios and overclock my Clevo Nvidia GTX 970m by +200mHz only can archive 10k score.

That is really very strange why MSI card will perform better.

Anyway, doesn't matter for me. Just for studies and curiosity. now the 970m is too op for me. Maybe will wait for Batman Arkham Knight and try it again to see how.

I think it would be still "enough" for me coz max I can go is still 1080p resolution.

yeah the difference is quite significant. msi card needs only +135, while clevo card needs +200.

.. and no wonder you thought 970m is too op. it's quite different when you have larger resolutions.

Ya I know. But too bad all the screen in my house TV, phone, laptop, max is only 1080p...

We wasn't ready for 4k yet. If 4k only gaming, is kinda waste. 4k video, movie source is very rare and how long you want to download?

true. the contents are scarce, and gpu techs are still not powerful enough. for nvidia cards, you still need sli and gsync monitor to get better fps (depending on games), with lower game graphic settings.

for now, the only advantage with 4k screens imo is the large work space.

What error? How about fresh install?

I feel like I need to perform a Clean Install of Windows 10. It's getting a bit sluggish day to day.

yeah. a clean install is always a better option. i have been doing that for a long time. never had any funny problems tbh.

Try 2 things
1. Run "Disk Cleanup" (If your Windows 10 is running stable and you have no intention to downgrade; you can run Disk Cleanup "Clean up System Files" to remove the old version of windows you upgraded from and clean up the windows update backups/logs as well)
2. Run "Optimize Drives". This will defrag your Hard Disk and TRIM your SSDs

this was what i got when i checked w10 compatibility for m17x r4.



in reality, it's running w10 with no problems now.

notes: here is how i install the latest whql drivers from realtek and preserves dolby digital plus on aw18.

1. download the drivers from here, https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/658002/ (thanks to stasio we can always get the latest from realtek hehe)
2. download stock drivers from dell.
3. extract the latest realtek driver in a directory, say, realtek.
4. extract the stock drivers into a temporary directory, then copy the DS1 folder from stock driver into the realtek folder.
5. copy DolbyDigitalPlusHT.exe from x64 sub folder into DS1.
6. run setup.exe.

Dell's stock driver is as below, for Win 10?


3. extract the latest realtek driver in a directory, say, realtek.
4. extract the stock drivers into a temporary directory, then copy the DS1 folder from stock driver into the realtek folder.
What software you used to extract?

6. run setup.exe
The setup.exe is the one in Realtek folder from latest Realtek driver?

1. i mean this one; the one labelled as whql. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=76835750 (always check the last page for latest one)
2. i only tried the w8.1 one. only w8.1 stock driver has DS1 folder.
4. run the installer and choose to extract.
6. yes use the setup.exe in the latest realtek driver folder.

note that i did this on w8.1. however i think w10 will work also.

notes: since w8, intel stopped supplying intel usb 3.0 driver for the os. you can however use modded usb 3.0 driver published here, http://www.win-raid.com/t834f25-USB-Driver...and-modded.html for w8 and up.

note that these modded drivers are not official. use them at your own risks. (read the notes posted at the first page to know how to do it)

there are other useful pages at that forum. i like getting intel-related drivers from there because they are actively maintained by the authors.

Thanks horns! This is one of the issue on my AW17 when I upgraded to Win 10, and I reverted back to Win 8.1 since.
Just some notes here, when I upgraded to Win10 from 8.1 I got the error as below:
"The current Dolby Digital Plus audio drier version is 7.6.4.9 and the software application expects driver version 7.5.1.1. Please install a valid driver and software application combination."

aw17.. if the audio chip is realtek ALC3661, then i think the above should work. aw17 r2 and r3 uses creative recon3di chip i think. please try out and tell us how it goes.

Yes, this method works, Dolby Digital Plus now functioning as normal in Win 10.

However, after upgrading to Win 10, nVidia Contol Panel seemed like have less settings than while in Win 8.1. Have you seen the same thing as below?

no i always use dgpu so nvidia cp has a complete set of functions. try press fn + f7 to toggle the switch from igpu to dgpu or vice versa.
