I had a GE OnG Australia interview early last year.

Usually 3 stages after your CEB online test;

1) Phone interview/screening with HR
2) Face to face with direct report and then they'll select like 5 people
3) Final interview and selection

Questions during stage 1

1) General working experience
2) Job suitability questions
3) General skill questions

Questions during stage 2

1) HSE question
2) Background and limitations
3) Strengths and Weaknesses
4) More HSE questions
5) Slight touch on technical questions

Questions during stage 3

1) Strong technical questions
2) Scenario based questions
3) HSE scenario questions

Needless to say I didn't pass stage 3 and they got an expat in for the ESP Engineer position laugh.gif, that's why I took the APLNG offer.

I recently being offered a position in a competitor company. They are offering a huge salary increase than what I am having now. Initially, I thought of taking the offer due to huge amount of cash being offered.

Then I rejected the offer. I had a bad feeling. After having conversations with the one of the bosses in the company, I am lucky for not going there. There were people who did take the job before me, were terminated after 3-4 months into the job. The reason was, they were not performing the to the level expected.

Just an advice guys, before leapfrogging onto other companies, make sure to know some if not most of the details as it could backfire. Furthermore, business isn't so good these days. So, be careful, my fellow grease monkeys.

Hi guys,sifu,O/L

I'm a fresh grad and just started my career for about 4 months in this oil and gas industry. Im working with a contractor company as an engineer and sometimes my work not even specific to one job. I am the one to do the drafting works, im the one to do the scheduling work. Its not that i dont like my work. I learn a lot from this. Learn how to use the Microsoft project, learn to use the autocad which i never use before. And the salary is not that much. Sometimes i just feel like jealous with some of my fresh grad frens who work with consultant company with higher salary. Did i make a right decision to stay here for a little longer or should i find new company?

i need some advices from u guys.might be some of u have the same problems as me or have experienced this before icon_question.gif cry.gif

First of all, what is the nature of company's business?

I am on the fence on this one to be frank.

What are your objectives?

What are your aims?

during my early days in my career as a fresh grad many moons ago in the late 80s, i was once asked to help DCC to LIPAT DRAWINGS for final document submission to the client. that was certainly never in the scope of work of an engineer. but i did not complaint, and i did what i was asked to do.

you should expect to do some crappy work like that as a fresh grad. have a tough mind if you want to continue a career in oil and gas.

First thing's first,

DO NOT EVER GET JEALOUS WITH YOUR COLLEAGUES. Yes, they are paid more but we don't even know the crap they has to face/deal with.

Secondly, going by the market nowadays, I would say most companies are freezing recruitments due to lower oil price and it is quite risky for them to replace "experienceds" with newcomers. Although, that may not always be the case, bear in mind they still practice LIFO (Last In First Out).

For me personally, I would say stay. Work your way upwards and learn as much as possible. There will be a right time to move on.

You need to ask the Americans and the UN to stop the economic sanctions they imposed on Iran.

Iran has always wanted to open up its country for business with the rest of the world,  but the economic sanctions have limited its ability to do so.

And they do produce very good and hard working engineers especially in O&G. Petronas and PCSB have Iranian engineers working for them.
*
Okay, perhaps my wording wasn't exactly clear. My question was more on the possible impact of Iran exports/new projects to the oil price, and less on Iran wanting to open up and reasoning for UN sanctions etc. I'm reading predictions going both ways (like always laugh.gif ).

And yes, I've worked with Iranian counterparts who can do their jobs well, no questions about that.

Thanks for your reply. I think my interview will be stage 2 interview since it will be face to face interview with hr and also engineer. And it stated that it will be group interview. Can u explain more on the hse questions? It will be like more to case study question or i need to know the common acts on hse or is it just a direct question?

And do u have any advice on what i have to prepare to excel the interview?
