Hi guys,

I am working in a semiconductor field for 3 years and are now looking for a new job in Oil & Gas Career.
I am very good with my hands and also troubleshooting. Current my position is senior equipment engineer (just jumped from maintenance engineer).

Am I a desirable candidate in Oil and gas field?

How many years of experience do you have? If >5 years, I suggest you stick to your industry, unless you're willing to take up an entry-level job (RM2.5k - RM3.5k). It's not uncommon for those in construction/semicon jumping over to O&G though, and many are willing to take the pay cut.

Unfortunately now's a bad time to make the switch. Retrenchment exercises are being carried out everywhere.

Oil n gas high pay is due to yearly high increment?
if not how to get a high pay as the starting pay are just about the same.

Sure, any field going in is not a problem, but getting slashed is a problem. You may get 5 figures when joined, but only can last you for few years and no job after that, what would you think at that time hmm.gif

oil and gas easily get 5 figures?

Why? Are you expecting you still can get 6 figures on compensations? Indeed got, with a "." before the last 2 figures whistling.gif
Is no more like good old days, this is the trend now.
Yup, upstream's pay are quite high for a permanent staff. That's why when they are doing the slashing exercise, upstream's staffs is the first to go sweat.gif

they are getting a good increment every year or they join with a high salary?
how about support roles like accountant?

I don't think that is accurate. Regardless of the reservoir type/properties (shale or not), you would still need to consider the method of crude evacuation. (Subsea/wellhead platform in either shallow/deep water)

One of the enablers for deep water developments, subsea is here to stay.

subsea good prospect? aker....fmc....GE?
