Change the processor to i3 to have a better performance in gaming with the help of hyperthreading. And the price difference between 500GB and 1TB HDD is small, suggest you to top up a bit for 1TB instead.

Thanks sifu!

It's not for work. For gaming. So I asked for suggestions to upgrade it. Budget around RM500.

looking at the spec,
there nothing worth spending on upgrading it since the is already age enough

sorry bro..

even if upgrade,
it will be bottlenecked so much

for gaming i5 versus i3, i5 wins on most games n multitasking,

as intel+Nvidia combo it not power hunger n will not stress PSU much,
just go with the cheaper PSU build,
antec n FSP brand is reliable,

u can spare some cash to get R9 270 at RM599
http://www.lelong.com.my/powercolor-turbod...6-05-Sale-P.htm

the FSP shud suffice as it state it oni require 500w min,
but if still on tight budget,
u can consider aerocool kcas 600w RM197 as alternative
(aerocool kcas not much a reliable brand but shud do gud)

okayy.
thanks again for the recommendation ya! thumbup.gif
really appreciate it wub.gif

Hi all sifus I need urgent help. I have just recently upgraded my gaming rig to spec below. All parts are new except for PSU which is 5 years old. It all went well for a few days, then today suddenly my PC can't boot properly. The MoBo has this odd beep for 5 times when I turn on the power, and it won't boot with total black screen. Out of 10 tries, at least 8 will be like that.

Can any sifu guide me on this? Could it be the PSU too old?

CPU: Xeon E3 1231
MoBo: Asrock z87 Fatal1ty Killer
GPU: MSI GTX 970 OC Tiger
PSU: Epsilon 80plus 600 (5 years)

Hi Sifus,

Not sure if I should start a new thread for this. I thought I should just save bandwidth or whatever and just ask here instead of starting a new thread.

SO I am thinking of my next upgrade (planning for the future, probably in 3 months time give or take.

Would it be more beneficial to aim for SSD or should I get another 8Gb RAM?

I read that extra RAM doesn't necessary speed things up if you don't multitask a lot. And I don't usually leave other browsers or apps on when i am gaming.

So it seems like I would benefit more from an SSD instead? (looking at Samsung 850 Evo 120 Gb. Or anyone can suggest any alternatives?

My specs
Core i5-4460
Asrock H97 pro4
D3 1600Mhz kingston 8gb
1TB Caviar Blue
Capstone 650w
zotac gtx 970 ref

Thank you sifus for input

ur spec look good. 8gb ram is min requirement standard. ssd like LITE-ON S900 currently is cheaper or u take plextor ssd. samsung evo not really worth it at all no need consider. if u bias on samsung go for PRO but really expensive.

Intel Core i7 4790K - RM 1299
Asus Z97 PRO GAMER - RM 636
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM x2 - RM 438
Palit GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1271
Liteon S900 256GB SSD - RM 429
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 194
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 379
Corsair Hydro H55 - RM 249
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 135

Total: RM 5030 (GPU is from Cycom, others are from Viewnet inclusive of GST)

As for monitor choice, Dell is one of the best choices as the colors of their monitor are really vibrant and attractive.

Dell S2715H IPS - RM 1189 (Not matte screen tho)
Dell U2715H IPS - RM 2399 (Superb quality, matte screen and ultra thin bezel)

If you want to get a 144Hz monitor, Gsync monitor such as Asus PG278Q and Acer XB270H are good choice too.

That's why headache now. I have the rig with the above specs already. So now thinking whether to get SSD or extra 8Gb RAM as next upgrade. Because I know after I get that upgrade, I won't be buying any parts for quite some time. So trying to weigh the pros and cons of getting an SSD or 8Gb RAM.

no need take extra 8gb expect u got doin heavy rendering video task. 2 stick ram got more issue than single while currently 8gb is more than enough but u can upgrade in future so now just spend abit of money on any ssd u like under ur budget. any ssd will do improve the performance. i think mostly will suggest u get ssd 1st. ssd is a must item.

I think I might have found a solution online, by changing the PCI-E setting in Bios for my GPU from "Auto" to "Gen-3". So far so good icon_rolleyes.gif

One question, I realize that temparature of my GTX-970 at full load always hover between 80c to 90c. May I know if that's normal? Perhaps someone can advice me on suitable cooler for GPU? notworthy.gif

If your GTX970 is reference model then the temp is acceptable, if it is not reference model, it's quite high for me, make sure airflow is good in your case. If you want to make it even cooler, try liquid cooling but it is not cheap.

It's a non-reference model, MSI GTX 970 OC Tiger cry.gif looks like I got to save some money to buy liquid cooler..

970 normally have a temperature control and throttle at below 85 degree Celsius, 90 is definitely out of the range already. Check your settings in MSI afterburner.

Improve on your cable management and air inflow.

Use afterburner to ramp up the fan speed to 70% if it hasn't already reach that.

Lastly, contact MSI regarding this and enquire if they allow you to repaste the thermal paste yourself without RMA it.

go with ngkhanmein suggestion.

u would benefit more from ssd than another 16gb of ram.
u can also feel the real world different with ssd. faster boot up, less loading time. time is gold brows.gif

Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD - RM 559

BenQ GL2450 - RM 479
Windows 7 Pro OEM - RM 200

Total: RM 5032 (Idealtech price inclusive of GST and free shipping to Penang)

They are selling Liteon S900 SSD but the price is not listed in their pricelist, but you can ask them to get that SSD instead of Samsung SSD as Liteon SSD is way cheaper than Samsung SSD and yet the performance is quite good too. You can get a cheaper reference version of GTX970 and put the extra money in other parts such as getting Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 7/upgrade to a better looking chassis/better monitor and etc.
