Hi sifu,
I want to upgrade my current GPU Asus Radeon HD6870
Reason: GPU fan too noisy (especially when above 50% fan speed), AMD GPU driver always restarted even during playing light graphic games (2.5D type of graphic... LEGO batman for example), extending screen to 32" LED TV...

My current personal rig now have this hardware:
Age: since april 2011
Intel i5-2400 3.1GHz
Asus P8H67-M LE (Socket LGA 1155)
PSU 550W
Asus Radeon HD6870 DCU
Ram 4GB
3 HDD WD Blue
DVD-RW
OS: Win7 64bit

For new GPU, it could capable to extend screen via HDMI (since DP not so popular with TV), lesser noise fan during high load.
Will my current rig capable for Nvidia GTX-970 upgrade? How about power consumption?

Thanx sifus

Good to go since you have PSU > 500W, but adding another 4GB RAM is recommended, 4GB RAM can barely keep up with latest triple AAA title.

Thanks for the suggestion sifu mod_po!! Noted down. I can top up to 5.1k but I think 2nd option is much more better? The HDD can save because I already have 3 external HDD with me now 3TBs. N Coz i think my softwares are GPU intensive too.. hmm.. Softwares will mainly be Maya (animation pipeline/modelling & rigging & animating & rendering), 3DS Max (For simulations.. and render), After Effects / NUKE (Tracking & Compositing purpose).. the rest are probably some medium power consuming softwares like Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, Photoshop and such!

oh ya i don't have monitor, maybe i can invest more on that? Any good monitor with color accuracy (maybe for printing and such?) Dell?

so far for LGA1150 build, i7-4790k is the best u can get,

im not familiar with Maya, can u verify it first either GPU or CPU consuming,
u can monitor it thru ur current rig, runs few renderings n works,
see which between cpu n gpu usage throttle..........

because that is GTX970 u're getting, (u might ended buying stuff u cannot fully utilize if not much research)
havent exp any from my rendering software (vray, keyshot, revit, lumion..etc) that can utilise a single GPU to the max,
but on the CPU, yup.. when renderings it push up to 99% usage

good color??
i have exp oni on DELL S2340L ips RM689,
very2 recomended!!

Mostly for gaming. However might use for a bit rendering but mostly low demand.

Hi sifus,
can I ask for advise for building a rig around 1.5k? (Only the rig, nothing will be reused) Mostly for family use(youtube, web browsing, microsoft word & excel) and gaming like dota 2, LoL, NFS, COD:AW. Just want the games to be playable and smooth. This is what I have in mind now:

Intel G3258
MSI H81M-P33
8GB DDR3
R7 250X 2GB
500GB HDD
FSP Hexa 550
DVD-RW Drive

Thanks in advance.

Nope, you can top up a bit for Asrock H97M-ITX/ac to get a mobo with wifi adapter. Performance RAM won't give any significant boost in performance, since you are tight in budget, value RAM will do the job just fine.

I think can be both GPU n CPU consuming.. CPU when rendering, GPU aids a lot when you are live-previewing an animation in real time? or real time playback blink.gif !! (this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3qr7PTEcNQ)

One last question is about the power usage.. just takut my bill will suddenly rocket-high.. so far have no experience using desktop yet so im not sure about the electric usage

Change the processor to i3 to have a better performance in gaming with the help of hyperthreading. And the price difference between 500GB and 1TB HDD is small, suggest you to top up a bit for 1TB instead.

when the PSU rated 1000w, doesnt mean it draw 1000w all the time,
it mean that i can draw up to max + - 1000watt from the wall unit when on demand by the usage,

so dun worry,
it only consume amount of energy watt the rig nid on certain2 usage,
but when idle, it will not draw max

Nice price and specs but in KK city not much choice to choose with. Plus the prices are not quite expensive. Sigh...
I can learn to assemble the components myself but I don't know whether I can order it online and deliver here safely.
