At the end, the TNB one that counts

QUOTE(simmarjit @ Oct 7 2020, 08:01 PM) Any ideas converting dumb doorbells to smart ones? Smart in what way? So you can remotely ring the bell? Seen some people recommending putting a contact sensor right in the door bell ding dong. I would put a camera and able to talk to the person that ring the bell. |

QUOTE(simmarjit @ Oct 8 2020, 09:06 AM) Normally this type of doorbell (ding dong type) has AC power to the door button. Either 6 or 9V. I fabricated my own push button using button with LED which constantly lit up day or night Anyway, I think what you can do is to trigger the WiFi module with dry contact relay placed near the bell. You can get the power for the module at the doorbell unit inside the house. The WiFi unit can be connected to your HA. This post has been edited by Zot: Oct 8 2020, 09:23 AM |

QUOTE(KChan @ Oct 8 2020, 04:36 PM) Hi Sifus, Some people add RCD on each phase in configuration that differentiates N for each phase. This can trip the RCD if you match the N on different phase. Some use 3 phase RCD with common N, thus I believe this should be fine. If just ELCB, should be okay too.I'm planning to try out smart switch for the bedroom which will control the lights and ceiling fan, but the more I search Shopee and the forum, the more confused I become. As I understood all Aqara switch needs a zigbee gateway/hub. Which hub/gateway is recommended? My house is a double storey 22x75 and that hub will be placed on the ground floor middle of the house. Will that be good enough for the wireless transmission to all rooms upstairs? Also I checked my switch plate, and below is the photos. I guessed there is no neutral wire. Some switches I saw on Shopee that for no neutral wire requires a capacitor to be install. Does this apply to Aqara no neutral switch? As my house have a 15A socket for the aircond, I'm doing reno and asking the contractor to change that and make it a hidden wiring for the air cond. So they will add a 20A switch besides the lighting switch. Can I just use the neutral wire from the air cond 20A switch. My house is on 3 phase power. I went thru some video tutorial on 3 phase electrical and it seems 3 phases system have 2 types of connection method which is delta and star. If not mistaken Malaysia should be star right which have 4 wire including neutral? If that case, my question will be can I just tap the neutral wire from the aircond switch irregardless of the phase of the aircond and the light/fan switch? I don't need any voice control, just needed a smart switch where each person can on/off their room lighting/fan themselves wirelessly. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(LovelyPotato @ Oct 8 2020, 07:21 PM) Hi. I’m planning to change my all my wall switch to Aqara as well as looking to add equivalent kind of switch for wall socket to control my plugged devices such as standing fan. I saw many 3-pin socket:However I’ve only found socket that’s with China head (Shopee). Does anyone know if there is any Malaysia version? Besides that if I use normal wall socket, is there any smart extension smart strip (4-6 socket) that can control each socket individually? I am looking for HomeKit compatible type hence aqara is my first choice. https://shopee.com.my/Bingoelec-WiFi-Smart-...1969.2818729211 https://shopee.com.my/WIFI-Smart-USB-Wall-S...8204.7827551145 https://shopee.com.my/BSEED-UK-Standard-Wal...1632.4444370432 |

QUOTE(LovelyPotato @ Oct 9 2020, 10:51 AM) Thanks. Haha I’m using those old school fan with button 123 to turn on type. Seems like HomeKit is not very commonly used for socket. Might have to consider getting a raspberry pi for homebridge. I see. For Homekit only found something like adapter have to plug in like thisHi, thanks! Unfortunately these are for google assistant, doesn’t compatible with HomeKit. Maybe I’ll have to get a raspberry pi to setup homebridge for it to work. https://shopee.com.my/Timethinker-3Pcs-Smar...1734.4854281005 |

QUOTE(cablesguy @ Nov 6 2020, 10:17 AM) Zot That is just addressable clients. In real world, it depends on processing power. Normal house router will start seeing noticeable response slowness in probably 6~8 clients. Enterprise router probably around 15 clients I guess. It will still work but sluggish if more.I'm wondering if the router hardware will get overwhelmed with the 200+ odd connections, curious. For smart home, the packet sent is very small short burst only. Furthermore, the polling is only once in a while. It will sure can handle many many more like 200 devices without you noticing anything. |

QUOTE(Kiding @ Nov 6 2020, 11:34 AM) I believe you are talking about IP address range /24, this is nothing to do with wifi router, if I assign /16, I can have 65534 hosts. But that would be on different network.the limits of the wifi router is depending on its cpu, memory, most cheap home wifi router won't be able to run 255 devices reliably |

QUOTE(TheLegend27 @ Nov 7 2020, 11:14 PM) wanna ask this yellow thing call what? coz now some switch quite congested. plan to use this to resolve some connection instead of using connector. These twist-on wire connector is not small either although fast and easy to use. Another thing to remember is that it is not one size for all product. You need to use proper one for different wire gauge. Otherwise cannot twist or lose.![]() I'd say if you split that screw on wire connector to become single for each wire, it is much smaller. https://shopee.com.my/search?keyword=twist%...a2-48df373ff57d |

QUOTE(wailing81 @ Nov 11 2020, 07:55 AM) anyone had experience with aqara hub??? I never off WiFi all year long, even if vacation i used to off my wifi before sleep, but aqara hub will start blinking blue searching for wifi. I had been clicking on the button on the hub to switch the light off. is there a way to set it off and won't blink anymore?? Thank you That WiFi does not cost much electricity. Why not try not to off for a month and see how much your bill increases |

QUOTE(gnilow @ Nov 27 2020, 12:48 AM) hi experts... The bulb is like a resistor with high impedance value. It still let small current flow to the switch. The switch is actually operating on very small current supplied through the the bulb. However, LED passes just too little current through (especially the low power one), thus causing the switch toggle ON and OFF causing the bulb flicker usually. So, by installing capacitor across the bulb, more current will flow. Capacitor leaks more current through enough to power the switch properly.so i got the smart wifi switch below https://s.lazada.com.my/s.1AUbf it comes with the capacitor. my wiring doesn't have a neutral line. so i should install the capacitor near the appliance. 1. funny thing is, it also works without the capacitor just fine. any thoughts? is it safe? has it got anything to do with the kind of appliance that's connected? (it's just bulbs and fan) 2. another thing i noticed is that in one instance, when i do put the capacitor, the bulb it's attached to doesn't want to fully light up. it just blinks. these are normal osram pl2 bulbs. 2 bulbs to a switch. 3. one of the switches resets itself sometimes when on/off by hand and gets removed from the app. I'll need to readd to the app. any thoughts? thanks 1) So, in your case the bulb is leaking enough current to operate the switch, thus makes capacitor unnecessary. 2) The Osram is a compact florescent light, right? I think in rare cases the capacitor (depends on its value) bypass the current that flows through the bulb high enough to disrupt proper operation of the bulb. Just don't use the capacitor if the switch is working fine. 3) Yes, I also noticed this on my switch, but mine was two way switch. When the bulb blown or the load is removed, the other bulb sharing the same switch had gone crazy |
