hi. anyone ever use Sense Home Energy Monitor https://sense.com/

Any equivalent one used in Malaysia?
*
I think in Malaysia just general monitoring devices sold, not the the extend of individual appliances.

The best you can purchase with much cheaper price would be Emporia Vue. Comparison here

Hi, I'm looking around for a all in one smart doorlock+camera+doorbell package that can connect with homekit but doesn't seems to find any good one. So I'm currently looking at the Aqara doorlock + a separate doorbell+camera setup.

I found a Xiaomi Doorbell Mijia video intercom but I'm not sure if it's homekit compatible as well as I saw reviews on reddit that it's battery usage are quite bad.

Is there any other recommendation for doorbell+camera setup that can connect with homekit (or homebridge/hoobs if no first party support)? Budget is MYR150-500.

Or should I just get a normal doorbell + aqara G2H better?
*
Why have to go through Homekit whatever if one can be operated through WiFi for example and have all the control you probably need even if independent apps? say something like this: hmm.gif

My current option is aqara one but ill have to try to water proof it myself LOL.

People use silicone whatever but the main problem is it cannot last sonce not designed for outdoor. Material will degrade fast.

Any of you guys using outdoor motion sensors? Any recommendations?
*
QUOTE(adamw @ Sep 16 2020, 08:20 PM)
I am also searching for Zigbee outdoor sensors but so far no luck. Mostly rf & need use gateway.
*
There are motion sensor designed for outdoor use. The one design for indoor may cause false alarm a lot. The sensor can be blind to to sunshine and outdoor wide temp range, unlike indoor.

This German product is designed for outdoor

https://shopee.com.my/Theben-S180-theLuxa-I...12844.256980410

There are model for wall mount as well. However, this works on AC supply and once detect motion, it will switch on light or whatever the dry contact relay is connected to.

So, you can make it trigger a zigbee smart switch to integrate the outdoor sensor into your zigbee network. Maybe something like this switch

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Zigb....622b3dcc22sTmL

Use the load on the motion sensor to trigger a dry contact relay which will act as a switch to the zigbee module here.

This is what I can think of one possible solution.

Not practical to trigger light switch might as well direct trigger a smart relay, those with NC/NO.
*
That's an example. If there is any zigbee module that is controlled by dry contact relay, then it can be used. The idea is just to integrate the outdoor movement detector into your zigbee network. smile.gif

Just bought xiaomi 360 camera, it cannot connect to my deco m4 when fast roaming are enabled, anyone face the same issue and got the solution?
*
Fast roaming is using 802.11r protocol so that you can roam fast between node by pre-authenticate before switching node. In this case your camera is not roaming.

I saw this in TP-Link website. Read blue one.

Note: 802.11k/v/r take effect only for wireless clients that support 802.11k/v/r as well.
If clients don’t support 802.11k/v, they won’t respond to 802.11k probe request so Deco will not guide them to roam and roaming can only be initiated by clients themselves. In this situation, clients may stick to the previous Deco.

If clients don’t support 802.11r, they may fail to connect to Deco. When the Fast Roaming feature is enabled in the Deco app, the wireless Beacon frames broadcast by Deco will carry 802.11r related information. Some clients can’t recognize this information and drop this Beacon frame, leading to connection failure.

I guess the camera firmware need to be upgraded to recognize the roaming beacon. Otherwise, you just need to turn off fast roaming

Ya too bad im using Deco M4, guest network can only configure 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, cannot disable fast roaming..

This is not the router problem but the mesh fast roaming network protocol not supported by your device.

I don't think firmware update will help as xiaomi using the low end "wifi chip" which doesn't support the protocol.
*
Nope. I don't think so. Nowadays, embedded WiFi module is popular since it reduce development time since it contains micro controller. This normally can be programmed during production time. Otherwise how to sell old stock not being able to upgrade. The problem would be whether the manufacturer bother to release update firmware smile.gif Protocol is not something stoned on chip based on my experience.

Actually u can go for Xiao Mi ecosystem though XD
I forgot which article i read dy regarding on why xiao mi IoT so cheap has its reason.

One of it is this WiFi module.
*
If you talk about IoT, then it is different thing. There is no unified platform. Everyone is implementing their own and there are interoperability issues.

To process cross platform data require processing power which maybe the limit on low end processor.

XiaoMi share keep falling and since it business model is based on price performance ratio which may no longer viable. They are shifting to IoT as well and join big player to focus on interoperability especially China's companies.

Ya, am giving one example actually.

Cause most of the xiaomi product wifi module using is "not full spec" one hence cheap price.

Cant really find back the article, hmm..
But it's one of the main reason i avoid xiaomi products since years ago  sweat.gif

They really did provide the price of what you paid actually, haha
*
Many articles by Western media talk about why Xiaomi product hi spec but lower price. How was that possible.

At that price not expensive I'd say.

Convenient since you can open your front door to let thief enter instead of breaking the door which will add up more to your loss. smile.gif

Recommended by adamw in Post #8605 to have BLE (BlueTooth Low Energy) since the battery can last longer line a year or so, bUt you need to invest on BlueTooth gateway to integrate with home WiFi.

hi, i have problem with the 1 gang 2 ways switch for the stairs.
may i know how you mitigate it.

i had asked contractor to prepare the neutral line, but for the stairs, it was not there. now still spinning my head how to do it..
maybe just use the wireless at one side.
*
If it is possible for you to wire like this, then can use WiFi module like this with existing conventional switch.

Attached Image

Plenty of WiFi module like this which can be install behind your switch as well if got space.

I ask one electrician and he says it's better to switch the "Live" of the switch to the same MCB of the 20A switch. Wonder if this is necessary? Seems most new condo's nowadays always have 20A next to normal lighting switch. Unless that switch position don't have any 20A switches.
*
What the 20A switch switches? TO cut power to the light switch there?

No, it just happens to be beside the normal light switch. Developer does it for your aircond/heater used, single phase only.
*
Then it is good since you have access to N if required smile.gif

Not using Aqara but Tuya type switches, already blew 2, 1 was due to led light driver blew, the other was I think due to incompatibility being paired with an analog motion sensor, was ok for a while, then one day just tripped, reset CB few times then it blew. Both is with the capacitor type, both capacitor was intact but the switches spoilt. Could it be the neutral type more lasting?

BTW, if anyone using Osram ledvance, mind commenting on the quality? I bought Philips Meson but the size and brightness available not suitable for me.
*
The blown LED driver should have not kill the switch, unless the switch is easily damaged by spike in power. I also don't see any reason for incompatibility with motion sensor either analog or digital hmm.gif

The capacitor is just to let more current flow to ensure operation of the switch circuitry in OFF condition. Low power LED light let too little current leak in off condition to maintain operational of the switch, thus why the capacitor is required.

At this moment I don't see either the reason the N type will last longer also.
