Different Manufacturers use different wireless protocol (I m referring to the wireless Smarthome) , Zigbee+, Z-wave (different country different bandwith),Enocean, digitalize RF433 Mhz, RF433Mhz (normal RF, just like your ceiling fan remote control) RF315 Mhz.

Even fall under same wireless protocol, different chip manufacturer have different performance, like NXP, Qualcomm etc.

For a consumer now have to choose a smart home device that can work pretty well on its own apk, api and also can integrate with other platform.

Now the most popular platform is Amazon Echo and Apple homekit.

So you have to puzzle out what you would like to have for your smart home.

This aim not create the problems, you have to think that your smart devices are work for your family, unless you are single (you will find out that most of the feature in the smart home like pointing to a house that only have one human being whistling.gif ) whistling.gif

Ya, I understand this manufacturer like to create their own protocol, own thing and protect from competition.

Many are not stable company and tomorrow will gone. Than your system hang there either get new wan or solve yourself with the competitor issue.

How are they going to encourage average house owner to install 1 ?

Alexa and Google are more like a harmony device to intergarte all this uncompetitor device. So there can work in a home together.

actually got a few standard protocol can choose from like z-wave, zigbee, IR, RF, etc
Its not fixed to one manufacturer. Once you buy into eg. a Z-Wave system, everything else must be Z-Wave. From different companies but the protocol must be the same
problem for us is cost and availability. not everything is available to us easily and they are mostly too expensive
so i guess people try to mix different systems from different manufacturers and this is where the problem comes in with compatibility etc

anyway I'm not going to mess anymore trying to turn on a few lights. too troublesome and too expensive. maybe if you itchy, can try putting Sonoff for your downlights biggrin.gif

Broadlink TC2 is using RF433Mhz one way signal transmit. If the software status is on, then someone physically switched off the light, the status in the software still remain as ON. There are no such as different RF code, broadlink RM pro can support RF433MHz, IR and RF315mhz
*
What you said is partially correct, it is one way signal transmit, so the hub doesn't know the status, and if someone physically switched it off, the smarthome software still detect as on, but we were talking sending the command using software, not physically switched it off. actually I don't care what status the software report, if i wanna switch it off, I just send the off command to turn off the light, even the light is already turn off, it won't turn on.

the TC2 on/off command use different RF codes, I can confirm that because I hacked into the broadlink e-control app, and find out the RF code hex keys use by each RF commands.

You guys create the problem out or what?

I watched many smart home YouTube and mostly are pretty simple to do and operate.

Watch a lot this guy in YouTube --> DIY smart home guy.  He review, teach to install a lot of smart home device. Doesn't look complicated.

Another is superhouseTV by Jonathan oxer. He is more hardcore.
*
You can use a single protocol (z-wave) to control supported z-wave devices, and everything will be very simple and easy just like what you see in the youtube, however. z-wave devices are DAMN expensive, a switch, motion sensor easily cost US$25-US$40, while xiaomi zigbee contact, switch, motion sensors just cost < US$10, also many z-wave light switch requires neutral line to work, while broadlink TC2 doesn't require. Logitech harmony hub is US$99 while broadlink RM2 Pro just cost US$20.

simply put, if poor man like me, then it needs to do more work to integrate all different devices from different vendors using different protocols. rich man can simply buy all devices from single vendor and have simple setup.

Thanks again for the confirmation
Obviously for the on/off status needs zwave/ wifi switch (which I couldn't find for 3/4 gang)

There's a few wifi switch that I found on taobao, but alexa pairing remains unknown.

And for that I'll have to settle with broadlink tc2 until something better comes along.

Sometimes when come to smarthome we have to be realistic, do you switch on your lights using your Handphone when you are at home? Or all your family members will do the same? Then you have to carry your Hp 7/24. smile.gif

Please physically open the RM pro2, there are only 2 RF chips and iR chip, there are no such different RF code.

Because all these TC2, etouch switches using normal RF433MHZ, any main console with RF chip can pair with them and less security. Even you can use xiaomi device to control them.

I think you misunderstand the RF code, it is not two different frequencies, it is code, not frequency, when you send RF signal to TC2 to turn it on, broadlink RM2 needs to send a specific frequency coding (433Mhz but in different coding like 0xe90a4200df0909160916091609160916091609160916160909160916091609160916091616091609160916091609091616090916091609160916091609161609160909161609), when TC2 receives this code, it turn on the switch, likewise, there is an off code to turn the switch off.

Even IR also has different coding for each device, Logitech harmony has ten of thousands IR codes in their database, so that harmony can control almost all vendor's devices

If the TC2 is turn on physically, the smart home controller doesn't know it is turned on, but it doesn't matter, I can build a logic so that if there is no motion in that area, turn off the TC2, or if no one at home, turn off all lights, RM2 controller will send "off" command to the TC2 and regardless what status it is, just turn off the switch.

The real problem is some IR device such as Samsung TV, it uses toggle to turn TV on/off, the IR code for turning on and off is the same, then this is difficult to handle.

I prefer if they just make this individual device work alone and integrated into a common system. Make setup easy and don't need any knowledge about all this jargon.

Just like you, I hate difficult setup and later on nothing much function to be huh ha about it.

If that sonoff is RM100+, I won't consider it at all. And rather just get the Hager timer which is proof more reliable.

Others downlight, don't need any timer to function. Just on/off when wan to use.

Like you said, damn expensive. And don't have much choice in term of price and unit to choose. If you're DIY.

Is Zigbee safe enough to be use in Security environment? PIR, Door Sensor & Door Lock etc. Long time never catch up with Smart home technology so can consider myself a newbie now. Seems Zigbee can be easily hack if manufacturer does not comply to their standard completely.

So far ok. Rain and hot (in the roof) doesn't spoil it so far.

Sometime morning I off the main switch. Old habit die hard.

But run back normal and timer are accurate on/off.

Nothing much thing to play around.

Ozak ... which shipping option did you choose for your Sonoff delivery ?
How long did it take to arrive ?
Thanks.
