QUOTE(idoblu @ Apr 20 2015, 08:21 AM) If only have concrete / cement without plaster ceiling have to use cutter to create a "longkang" to put wires, and plaster it back. Using diamond cutter will be fast and easy, only -ve side is dusty, therefore need to wet the area first to reduce the dust. |

9v battery is the least amps you can get. You may need like 100 of it.
Check the motor watt, you know the AH required. A 200 watt motor, need at least 18amps for a 12v battery. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Apr 25 2015, 07:39 PM) I find the opposite to be true. Not all apartment and condo have direct paging, only newer build up.Landed will see more ppl using the door bell High rise - usually the guards already intercom you ahead and the only neighbors that will ring your doorbell will be those on the same floor. Other floors occupants can't even get to your floor nowadays Anyway I kinda hate doorbells. I disconnected mine when I was staying at a condo. Actually I'm looking for a programmable door chime. I want to put Star Trek wav files in it 😁 My house hardly anyone press, I have to once a while press to make sure is still functioning There are some newer design can use wave file. But not loud enough. Still prefer the "dong" or "ding dong" sound. Louder and crispy sound. |

QUOTE(ywkwy @ Jun 28 2015, 05:47 PM) Should be ok since I'm going to DIY the whole system where I know how the system works. The part which I'm not sure whether I should DIY is laying of the network cable which I believe is 1 time job unless wanted to change network cable after some years. Either the ugly way of putting into cable casing without laying in the wall or hire someone to lay PVC pipe and wiring in the wall or should I DIY the wall hacking as well Cables, is better to have it in a conduit, this mean you need a bigger "drain" in the wall to put in the cables. Anyone here have experience hacking the wall and lay PVC pipe for wiring? Is it hard? Diamond cutter + chisel drill will make your life much much easier. Hacking on the wall even on the thin layer of plastering and red brick is not easy without the two items. And Do make sure you wet the wall. It will be very dusty too. Sealing the drain you, if its deep and big better get cement + fine sand. If small area you can use putty filler. And you have to wait till it dry for few days, some crack may appear again and you need to apply putty to seal it. <Most Important: Don't cut the pipes or wires already implanted in the wall.> I am also converting some part of my house to smart too, using Arduino, and its interfaces are much fun. Programming are using C. Below my prototype to switch on light during night when someone are around. ![]() This post has been edited by weikee: Jun 29 2015, 09:40 AM |

QUOTE(ozak @ Sep 16 2015, 12:42 PM) I m looking for some basic arduino class or basic learning. Look like don't have here. Rasberry got class nearby my home. But I see arduino are more famous and more accessory. Arduino got more add-on (shields) and sensors, it use 5v for most interface sensors. You will usually use C to write the program/logic. For raspberry, the interface are limited but getting more, but usually more expensive. Also note the voltage is 3.3v. There are ways to use arduino sensors in pi, and vice versa. Pi is easier to connect into network and internet. Usually use pyton for programing. I have both, currently focus on arduino first. |

QUOTE(ozak @ Sep 16 2015, 08:23 PM) Just order a Arduino uno r3 kits set. Welcome to Arduino Just learn the mainboard hardware version and how many type, I also already I m worry the prg side as I totally no idea. I dilemma of choosing with 1 to learn. Raspberry or arduino. Raspberry less accessory and community on the net. But I can learn from class with also near my home. I see the kids also can prg the raspberry when I visit the class. Wonder the teacher will teach oldman like me. Arduino have many support and accessory in the net. Cheap also. But local short of community and learning class. Can't find any group also. Lots of "how to" on the net. No need worry about programming lah. C is a very basic language, no Object oriented that complicated things. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Sep 23 2016, 08:49 AM) ok at first i wasnt too warm to this home automation thing mainly because its too darn expensive just to turn on/off a light or two. As always, the video make it so easy. And even if it happen you dare to use, even with Tesla got hacked, all because is integration. https://www.rt.com/usa/360172-tesla-vulnera...ty-hack-brakes/ but lately there are some interesting products popping out that makes me reconsider. now apple is adding Homekit with Siri voice control to certain devices that is compatible with Homekit. Good example is the Philips Hue. Still it cost about Rm1k just for a three bulb starter pack. then Amazon is coming out with the second gen Amazon Echo Dot (see video) which is only US$50. Its like a standalone Siri. And it is compatible with many standards. I can add smart plugs from TP-Link Smartplug and D-link Smartplug (about Rm150 each). Now if I can find a hub/control for my ceiling lights.....that would complete the setup that I need. I dont need to control temperature (maybe just monitoring), I cant afford to motorize my roller blinds, I dont have an alarm system, I got one IP cam and might add another. I dont need auto make coffee. So basically I just want to control my lights. Thats the biggest thing. Now Im using mechanical timers to turn on/off lights. If the times and date can be set electronically using Smartplugs with an app, that would be great. Can dim as well. Change colors if you got RGB bulbs Any more ideas ozak and weikee? Okay Echo Dot may not work (100%) outside USA or UK. You can still use voice to control your devices but anything to do with location and time/date, it wont work I am doing this now. http://www.techradar.com/how-to/computing/...tsapp-1315610/2 This post has been edited by weikee: Sep 23 2016, 11:02 AM |
