You're using that 2 way ewelink module right?
Other 2 way module all need live cable going to the master & slave but our 2 way wiring usually got live at the master switch only.
*
nope. 1 way.
thinking to use the 2way version for stair too..

yeah. our house wiring all 'shortcut' one.. like stairs 2 way switch. 1 end supply, 1 end load.. haaih..

Hi all, I'm planning for my house renovation and would like to know , if it's the right time to also build-in some smart home features? e.g. voice command, switching on/off stuff remotely and with timer, etc.

Main concern is if there's an open system where devices compatibility is very common. is google home able to be compatible with many devices?

currently i have some xiaomi ecosystem devices (e.g. ip  camera, air purifier, etc.). the link to the china server are lagging, as well as some devices are not meant for outside china use.

thanks in advance
*
Should be the right time to pull neutral wire to all or selected switch location..
Might be pulling lan/cat6 cable to certain selected location also..

anyone here can recommend good electrician?
5 electrician ffk me... yes tat 5 mf

after I told them to lay the neutral cable for the smart switches and cat6 cable, they chicken out.

I think parts of the reason, my house is also running 3phase line...

been 2months, im really tired and frustrated.
*
Maybe very hard to do.. if the original wiring got piping, maybe abit easier, can 'fish' and pull new cable..
Else.. needs to 'hack' the wall to pull N cable to nearest point..

And somemore, 3 phase really pain.. N need to go to the same rccb L phase..

Really difficult and cumbersome jobs..

About zigbee smart switch, can the switch work with wifi or still need the zigbee hub?
If the hub 'down' all the switches lose connection and doesn't work?

Yep, just zigbee hub
Pretty much, you can’t access remotely or control with app, same goes with your automation

Got pros and cos bro, zigbee wireless sensors are definitely way better because of the longer battery life.
Lights and wall switches, i’m leaning to wifi because i can still install custom firmware and disable reset (sometimes kids or anyone could accidentally reset when they keep flicking the switches)
Also, always backup your HA so you don’t have to re-pair the zigbee devices again if your HA crashes or something.
*
Tq.
Yeah. For light switches.. probably best using wifi.. my house seems doesn't have wifi blindspots.. router place in middle of house.
Currently im.running the HA on Debian on an 'old hardware' Celeron J1800 itx.

tuya have many manufacturers...
and not all offered the same quality.
i read some of it broke easily especially for non neutral.

i personally like sonoff and been using it for few years.
but it lacked of choices..
eg smart lock, curtains, cctv, power plug etc etc

for this reason, im currently considering tuya as well
*
i prefer sonoff too.. but they lack mechanical wall switches.. mostly tuya have..

switchman is beautiful... i hope they have RF433 too.

anyway i might go with Smatrul, because they have 20A touch switch and dimmer...
does anyone here use this brand before? can review abit?
*
For controlling higher power devices, u can wire the smart switch to 'contactor'. Its function like a relay.
Smart switch power the relay, the relay power the device (ex: pump/heater)

Im going to power my water pump this way because the switch is upstairs. (Currently need to go up to switch on pump)
With smart switch can power from anywhere (app or HA interface downstairs)

Got some diagram?
Is it something like shelly 1 plus?

Will try to draw later and update.
Currently went back hometown.

QUOTE(lucaswjk @ Jul 30 2022, 05:09 PM)
i m planning for water pump too.
this is what i thought... no need switch.
just need to install Sonoff Basic next to the water pump.

My only concerned, do we leave it On 24/7?
or only switch it On when needed?
*
I still need switch at upstairs becoz need ON waterpump when shower (low pressure from water tank).
Sometimes need extra pressure downstairs too for bathroom and laundry.
So with smart switch and contactor, i will be able to ON OFF either upstairs or downstairs.

With sonoff basic u can only control with 'app'.. and have to leave it powerd ON.

And 1 more thing, i can have standard 'switch model' around my house.
Thats y i will go with smart switch and contactor.

Using contactor also will protect my smart switch from hi load.

QUOTE(Kiding @ Jul 30 2022, 05:19 PM)
Smart relay does not power the device (pump/heater), it creates connection from the power source to the device, hence, it can be used for controlling high power appliances.

sonoff is pretty good at this area, they have smart relay supports 20A current, good for water heater, and it is easily integrate with Home Assistant.
*
I will be using normal smart switch (for lights or fan).
This switch will control the contactor powering pump/heater.
I will have more control over my waterpump. ON OFF either upstairs or downstairs.

i am keen on such thought as well. would like to switch off and on the pump whenever/ where ever i am.
I kind of look in to contactor but found it slightly big to put inside the switch socket.
may i know where would you locate your contactor?
*
the contactor not place inside the switch box, but near the device or along the supply to the device.
ex; inside ceiling.
it goes like this, the contactor receive direct supply form DB or power source then to contactor (maybe on celing/roof/inside device casing) then to device, the smart switch wired to control the contactor (any normal/smart switches can be used, as the contactor is very low power device)

DB/Supply > contactor > water pump
,..........,......................^
....,.................. smart switch

(Ignore the dots)

hope u get what i mean. unsure.gif

Is there a way to integrate data from TNB smart app to HA?
*
i dont think so... unless TNB willing to give user access/API to their app.. unsure.gif whistling.gif

have to use metering device (sonoff/tuya/etc energy meter) at DB and pull the data, some code/programming to calculate tariff and cycles..

Aiya.... Install first and 2nd switch ok. After install 3rd smart switch, it cause 1st switch to trip mcb. All looped neutral from aircond switch next to it. All 3 switch different mcb in DB...

Now i dismantle the 1st switch live and neutral cable without connecting to switch also cannot on back its mcb liao. Keep tripping the mcb.

Dont know what went wrong there.
*
u need to check the 3rd switch neutral. izzit confirm from 3rd rccb?
try dismantled 3rd switch and reset rccb.

QUOTE(blibala @ Aug 17 2022, 06:33 PM)
It is MCB tripped. Not RCCB.

I have total 4 switches to be replaced with wifi switch. 1st and 2nd switch controlled by own MCB individually (so i assume it is 2 circuits there). 3rd and 4th switch i can see live cable is looped behind the original switch and it is another MCB to control both switches. I am wondering why 1st and 2nd switch is ok at the beginning . But when i install 3rd switch, it suddenly trips 1st switch MCB and cannot ON back the MCB again. 2nd and 3rd wifi switch are working fine. Now i dont dare to install 4th wifi switch....haha.
My house is single phase. I loop the neutral from aircond switch.
*
Ok.
Tried remove 1st switch, can reset back mcb?
The AC switch supply, use normal mcb or rcbo?

Btw, which switches u replacing? Light, stairs,..?

Thanks. My concern is whether it would work with downlights, as usually I only see people pairing the dimmer with bulbs. Worry it might cause issues like flickering

My alternative plan would be to use normal non dimmable downlights and pair with normal smart switch, and add a dimmable bulb somewhere in the room and pair with dimmer. This will be cheaper for me as well since i dont have to spend so much on dimmable downlights and dimmers
*
i think u need to get dimmable downlight/bulb.
nowadays LED light using wide voltage input driver.. so dimmer cant work in this normal driver. need specially dimmable driver.

old tech light (filament) sure no problem.. laugh.gif

Mostly like that here unless you bought new ac model recently.
Even the midea wifi dongle i think need to buy subscriptions for ‘extra’ features
What’s your ac model?
There’s also this esp dongle that gives you true wifi ac control without relying on ir

https://community.home-assistant.io/t/support-for-midea-a-c/

List of supported model here but mostly 2018 model onwards it seems

https://community.home-assistant.io/t/midea...acturers/320784

Just check first if you ac has the port connection

Also need to consider if you’re installing smart switch or just smart relays you can install alongside old switch.
*
im using 1 inv midea ac. i dont think media one need subscription. still free to use..
aih.. didnt notice got esp mod for media.. if found earlier doesnt need to buy the wifi adapter sweat.gif

but Daikin only free 2 years premium subs. (after that only can use on local network) and Malaysia version wifi dongle/built-in also doesn't support in HA
