Hi guys, I need help.  I'm just getting into home automation and looking to replace all my wall switches.  The thing is I don't which to buy, wifi switch with neutral or none.  I have rudimentary electrical skills but I do learn quick.

I'm trying to change a 3 gang switch.  And I look behind the switch, I see all white wires and some running in series
*
Do you prefer click switch or touch switch?
Might wanna try both see which one you like
For wifi switch without neutral, you’ll still need to add capacitor on your lights
Anyway, i installed this one and seems i didn’t need to add any capacitor

Hey guys, for those using hassio
How do you setup to access remotely using https?
I wanna add google assistant to hass but it seems like one of the requirement is to use https (which i never bothered before) in the setup.

(Timestamp 2:05)

Currently my setup is using reverse ssh with duckdns since I’m using 4g LTE as my main internet (no port forwarding)
This has been working well since i can expose port for easy access but only http.

Eh, Sonoff wall switch can program delay off time like what you had shown. I think Basic are also the same.
If I am doing it, probably will just use the Sonoff wall switch which I have in the bathroom and add the Basic at exhaust fan but in Tasmota and HA
Don't think there is neutral at your switch. Use a smart non neutral wall switch there

Follow this video from the same guy.
Been using this and Nginx proxy to keep using http for internal network HA. Only connect to https when at outside internet
*
The portforwarding setup is useful for home broadband but not fot LTE since portforwarding not allowed (which is why i use reverse ssh with vps)
Bro, mind sharing your nginx setup?
I read about it but seems complex, would be great if can get some example

Not very difficult and works for me.
Just add in the DuckDNS address in the settings and it is done.
When in local network, just use http instead of https for your HA IP address.
*
Btw bro, did you use nginx to redirect any other services installled on your linux machine?

can also try https://lynk.sh/

I’m using this. Not for home automation but for other stuff. Got free n paid plans or can be self-hosted.
*
Thanks, looks like another ngrock alternative
I tried with nginx first but it was giving me some weird errors
Ended up just using caddy for https, after some more googling for examples finally got it working

Quite lengthy step just to integrate google assistant lol

thanks bro..do you have any recommendation on non neutral smart version that you can suggest. Of course with no hassle installation.

I found one model which is ITEAD SONOFF T4EU1C WiFi Smart Wall Switch no Neutral but it is only one switch on button... :-(

I bought this one last time, they included capacitor as well if needed but I didn't have to

https://shopee.com.my/product/33337179/2719447075

Can get optional remote also if you wanna control by rf.

Hi sifus  notworthy.gif  I am an aspiring homeowner and also a big fan of smarthomes so I've allocated a 10k budget just to kickstart my smarthome dream!

Hence, I would appreciate if the experienced sifus here can look at my planning and give me some advice/suggestions to cut down on my current budget (so I can buy more tech  laugh.gif ), any alternatives you guys think are better, or any brands I should avoid.

Here are some assumptions I've made while budgeting:
- Regular sized double storey terrace house. Say 22x70.
- I will be using Homebridge, installed on Synology NAS
- I want to control everything on Apple Home on my iPhone (hence Homebridge)
- Looking to use Zigbee primarily so that my network isn't congested.
- No need for smart lights/dimming/changing fan speed etc.

Here's how my current budget looks like:

This is the breakdown on how I got to 15 smart switches.

Thank you for your time!

Edit 1: No extra spending on router. I'm staying with my family (4 pax) and we are subscribed to Maxis Fibre 300mbps. I'm still ok with the router they've given and we also have the Deco Mesh system to help with upstairs speed. In my new house, it will only be me and my gf/wife (same person ya  brows.gif )

Might wanna get the xiaomi vacuum with lidar sensor, better mapping of the house area and can vacuum in the dark

I don’t think you have to spend 2,000 for a single smart lock for the door since there’s cheaper option out there. Depends on your door lock type of course

Hello, newbie here. Recently came across this article (https://www.iproperty.com.my/lifestyle/benefits-advantage-and-disadvantage-of-smart-or-digital-lock/) and it seems like smart lock system is the new way to go. Anyone here uses smart lock? I'm contemplating to change mine cause my neighbourhood has reported cases of break ins.
*
I’m using it now, mostly for convenience.
Don’t really have to go for the expensive ones, i used yale lock and it had some issues with keypad

Now smartlock with fingerprint available at lower prices than before. Just make sure to pick the ones that matches your door lock (etc deadbolt type)

If intruder really determined to break in your house, then no lock can really protect from that. Last time got case at my neighbourhood someone break in thru front door using tong gas 😅

Anyone tried integrating tuya Smart camera into home assistant?
I know there’s Tuya addon for their smart devices but doesn’t look like there’s much update for the camera

I think it's not really possible with the old types but Tuya already started to release IPC with RTSP/Onvif support so those newer batch will have no issue at all. Here's a preview of what's in store!
*
Is there a reason why they don’t include those features right away like other companies like hikvision/foscam who’s been doing it for ages?

Just curious since wanna try out amazon rekognition/doods with ip camera integration

Plus some tuya cameras really cheap like the ones from this shop

Hey guys, any recommendation for pir sensor?
Just wanna have it quickly turn on lights in the room/bathroom
I read review for tuya wifi pir sensor could take like 10 seconds to turn on lights once motion detected
Is xiaomi any better? Or zigbee type have better response time

Maybe consider contact sensor for bathroom? I have just added that for toilets/bathrooms in my home.
*
Meaning door sensor instead of relying on motion? Is that correct?

Yea, most people turn on the light on their own anyway cuz its next to the door.

I made it so that if the door is open and the light was open (someone getting out), after 30 seconds of the sensor being in open state the lights turn off.

If door is closed and lights are off (nobody in there), upon door open, the lights will turn on by its on, and once that person is done, the first automation will turn off the lights.
*
If the person finish business and close the door right away upon exit
How to manage that one 😅

Tuya is a newborn baby where IP camera is concern, still need a lot to be done but since they already got listed on the 18th on Nasdaq last month I believed their growth will be tremendous. Newer types also not that expensive but of course not rm55 like what this shop is selling. That is even below my cost but different design and no idea what type of quality. But so far none of my Tuya camera has impress me. You should try get your hands on Wyze. Got a free unit from Amazon when I bought something and it beat the shit out of my Tuya's.
*
Noticed that one before, looked exactly like Dafang but running different system.
No really focusing on the camera specs, but more of what homeassistant can do with access to the camera stream & image recognition.
Certain xiaomi camera models already got hacked firmware for rtsp/mqtt. But just not much with tuya yet

Many IP camera supports RTSP, I have foscam, tplink, ezviz (hikvision), imou (Da hua), all supports RTSP protocol.

RTSP is a standard protocol for IP camera, you can use opensource NVR software to manage all different brands of ip camera.
*
Which device are you running the nvr software?
The image recognition running in real time? Or based on snapshots taken from rtsp stream
