hi everyone.. i have some smart switches from smatrul around my house. uses wifi.
thinking of upgrading to these switches for better feel when pressing instead of the touch panel which can be annoying when it doesnt detect the touch once in awhile.
but says it requires a Tuya Zigbee hub? i have no idea what zigbee is... and would prefer to not add any other hardware.
what exactly is zigbee? do i need to buy additional hardware n connect to my router? if yes, what hardware? how well is the coverage as my house is a 2 storey terrace which requires 2 mesh wifis n still cant really get full speed on the furthest mesh. also my best friend just bought an apartment n his dreams of having a smart home is a little delayed as he has to prioritize his finances on other parts of the apartment....so thinking of getting him the same switches to start him on his journey. i assume will require this zigbee hub thingy? anyone know of any mechanical smart switches from smatrul that uses wifi n needs no neutral? tried going thru their official store n those mechanical ones says require zigbee or maybe i have mislooked?
ive only used smatrul and tuya and prefer smatrul along with the smart home app.
Tuya got wifi switches that doesn’t require neutral but you’ll need to install capacitor on the light fixture.
Zigbee is another smart home protocol. Latest is matter over wifi and thread. Where you can just add other device from different manufacturer/brand into tuya app Thread is basically the new zigbee. Just the adoption is really slow
Cheaper one no RF + power monitoring. Get that if you don’t care for those 2 features Also make sure you have enough space behind switch to install or just add spacer
I am renovating my house and planning to change all my switches to smart switch. I was informed that the smart switches I want requires neutral wire. I am wandering whether I need a neutral wire for each switch regardless of gang or each gang requires a neutral wire. My electrician is charging me RM200 for each neutral wire installation. Is this reasonable?
Fuhh rm200, not really worth it bro Anyway I’d recommend this sonoff zigbee switch Work with or without neutral wire
Have browse through these, not suitable for me (just treat me as degil), coz whole house only using one smart switch for my bed room, for me to set timer, control lights & fan using RF433 switch on bed anytime, so no plan to add on extra device. Still looking around, since I hard to pull wire & not to curi tepi wire, no choice then forced to get the 'touch screen' style smart switch.
Thanks btw.
Yeah, not much option now with rf433mhz combo Mostly are still with the touch switch type You can still mod in rf433 receiver into the pcb just a bit hassle to configure the firmware
I think you could use this one
I just found this on AliExpress: MYR18.23 | Tuya Smart Life WiFi 433mhz Wireless Push Button Wall Switch Google Home Light On Off 220V RF433 Remote Control EU UK Two 3 Way https://a.aliexpress.com/_c4ThDh0b

Two more of my MOES Zigbee smart switch kaput after just 3 years of use (failed just shy of 4 months of each other). This time it was installed at a different house. I guess no more MOES switch for me. Any suggestion on safer SIRIM/St approved Zigbee smart switch?
I got some moes switch, but different pcb design of course than this one. Still working fine till now But even my other tuya switches, never to this extend damaged (normally some faulty capacitor needs replacement)
Hi, i am newbie in this smart home system.. I have done some readings about it and i am leaning towards Zigbee protocol where Sonoff brand would be my choice. My house does not come with neutral wire at the switches and all the switches are good quality and quite expansive mechanical switches which I changed just last year - MK Honeywell. So I don't intend to change the switches as the price of smart switches is still on the high side. Based on my readings, I can still use the mechanical switches with smart relays (neutral wires - ZBMINIR2) at the lighting wiring and not at the back of the switches, together with a proper Zigbee Bridge: Would like to seek help on the following questions: 1. Would like to seek your advise on this setup. 2. If no 1. is doable, any Contractor/ Consultant in KL that can help to install this setup for the whole house?
Well, there’s tuya zigbee relays (1-4 gang) available that don’t require neutral. Since you’re keeping the switches I’d recommend printing switch spacers since you probably don’t have space to fit behind them especially for multigang switches with all those extra cables behind it.
Additionally you can install custom firmware to enable more features
Another thing to consider is converting existing switches to retractive (like your doorbell switch) since the switch position doesn’t matter anymore and might annoy your spouse.
It’s pretty easy to install as long as you’ve turned off the breakers before doing anything
