Tuya seems like a much more affordable solution compare to aqara.
*
Yes, they’re cheaper but qc may very depending on oem.
You can find some homekit or Matter devices at laz/shopee using same tuya hardware or from this shop

https://m.tb.cn/h.5Er21E8roDrXr06?tk=DDyqWms5ize

Another easier way is getting tuya homekit/matter hub to add tuya zigbee devices

Thanks a lot, much cheaper than Aqara which cost RM200+ for each switch. Probably aqara intergration with homekit is better.

As a starter, should start with something cheap first.

So the thing I need to get are
Switches
Matter Hub
Apple TV/Pod

Should I draw a diagram for these  biggrin.gif
*
You start to think twice thrice when each switch cost 200+ & need to justify with the wife some more
Anyway, i helped setup homekit for my cousin so i grab the ones within price range like this one running already custom firmware for matter/homekit.
Yeah, probably can start with the diagram

Can sonoff and tuya integrate without mod? I want try the sonoff TX ultimate but it seems can't mix with tuya, and doesn't seem to support matter
*
Tasmota firmware does support matter and can be installed on the tx ultimate. But it just shows up as light bulb in the tuya app regardless of the device type.
No issues with the usual smart home eco though (homekit, google, alexa)

I'm on HomeKit, using this inching module to control my autogate to open and close. But starting today the connection is rather spotty and it doesn't show as inch anymore... weird?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002637950603.html

Looking to replace this, any recommendations? HomeKit, or heck now I have MQTT if there's better options around?
*
How’s the wifi coverage to the gate?

Good question, maybe no luck yet but will come soon
Better contact the dev on libretiny discord channel, he could definitely help with that

tx ultimate is actually esp32.
and can flash esp32-idf, it support matter, bluetooth.
if u mod 1 step further by using esp32 c6, u get zigbee n thread too
*
Exactly, but tasmota Matter with tuya is not properly done or something since anything is just added as light bulb.
And not possible to for esp32 c6 upgrade since it's soldered directly on the PCB instead of separate chip

hi, I'm still new on  smart home thing and I've been doing some research, but I'm a bit confused. If I have multiple products from different companies that support Zigbee, can I simply connect them all to an Aqara hub and manage them through the Aqara app? Or do I need to download multiple apps like Tuya, Xiaomi mainland, Apple HomeKit, and Aqara to manage them separately?
*
For consumers, tuya has made matter hub that should expose tuya zigbee devices paired to whichever smart home platform of your choice.
Please note, homekit requires a home hub like apple tv/homepod which are a bit pricy.

After do some matematic....I've realized that local options are too expensive. I'm concerned about the differences, aside from the server. I've noticed that if I buy the China version, I'd need to use the Mijia app to log in. I've heard that using Mijia might result in lag with the China server. Is this true?

I'm considering getting the Aqara A100, ZIGBEE Smart Switch 3-GANG from Tuya, Philips LED daylight smart bulbs or Tuya Smart LED downlight , Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen, Xiaomi Air Purifier Pro, and a robot vacuum.
I'm still undecided on the brand for the robot vacuum.

Can I connect all these devices to Google Home using the Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen as the gateway? Then, can I manage them all using the Google Home app, or do I still need to get a Matter Gateway to integrate everything and use Google to manage it?"
*
No, you’d still a zigbee hub anyway for zigbee sensors and devices like zemismart matter hub.
For wifi devices it just connects to your router.

If you plan to use smart switch with smart lights, you’ll need a switch when decoupled mode to keep it always powered. Otherwise constantly toggle on/off eventually reset the bulbs.

I'm considering purchasing a 3-gang smart switch to connect with all my smart LED lights because they support dimming.
If I control them using Google Nest Hub, is that not considered gateway method, but rather Wi-Fi method?
*
If you need to dim lights, can go for smart dimmers.
Yep, wifi devices connect directly to the cloud from there

QUOTE(silrave @ Mar 27 2024, 11:57 AM)
So, if I buy different brands of Zigbee devices like Tuya, Aqara, Xiaomi, and others, can I use just one Zigbee gateway to connect them all and manage them using Google Nest Hub? I'm sorry, I'm quite new to this whole smart home setup.
*
That’s doable with something like homeassistant, for consumers the zigbee hub is platform specific (tuya devices for tuya etc). That’s where matter over thread devices comes in, but not many thread devices out there yet

Wiz is matter? meaning if I buy the GU10... it can connect to Wi-Fi and controlled by HomeKit?

But dang... RM80 per pop, quite pricey huh.
*
This one?

Don’t see matter listed
Better grab the cozylife one, 1/4 the price

I opted for a smart switch that combines control for both the light and fan. I noticed that Tuya LED downlights are priced at RM 19. Interestingly, my dad purchased LED downlights from another brand at the same price of RM 19.
yup , i skip philips now aim tuya. but not sure tuya led can manage by google home or not.
hmm Aqra A100 i know got mainland and global.
global is malaysia, mainland seem like only tie to Mijia
yes, you are correct, but i got mix with Fan also .
Yes, Aqara is known for its quality, but it comes with a higher price tag. Tuya, on the other hand, is much more affordable, almost half the price. Initially, I considered purchasing Aqara products, particularly the Aqara Smart S1e. However, I'm concerned that it might only be compatible with Aqara devices, which would limit its usefulness.
Thank you for the clear explanation, I understand now. So, in conclusion, if I want to avoid having multiple Zigbee gateways, it's preferable to opt for a Matter gateway, as it offers more advantages.
*
Just make sure it's either wifi or zigbee, I never bought the ones that are just bluetooth only (basically needs you to turn on bt, open the app, and be within range of the lights)

When you said combine light and fan, which one did you get?
Because normally you have the normal switch to toggle on/off and a dimmer switch next to it.

Ah, I see. I'm opting for a 3-gang smart switch that combines both fan and light controls. Then, I'll regulate the dimming using either Google Home or the Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen. That's my plan.
*
Saw this one, pretty cheap
Just grabbed one myself to test it out

https://s.lazada.com.my/s.8MxKW

Meaning you’ll just regulate dimming from smart bulbs right

someone in this thread actually calculated the amp required by aircon.
it is actually doable.

but i wont recommend this, aircon unit is considered high power electric device. if ur plug unable to deliver sufficient power, u might risk burning ur aircon.

also most of the socket hv different 3 pins.
not sure u saw before, the pins are round one .
this is to prevent ppl from use the plug, especially in bathroom.
*
So that’s the reason, always wondered why don’t just use 3 pin uk type one like usual

matter gateway can bypass ha?
and support other protocol, eg mqtt, tasmota's http, and esphome

it is good if I able to use it purely for Google home
*
Mqtt - X
Esphome - X
tasmota - Thru matter integration
Comment from another guy mentions doesn’t really display sensors properly on G Home, could be tuya still working on it

my tasmota v13.2.0
ngam² got this in it changelog

but dont understand what it mean
*
I dun quite understand berry yet,
Basically you assign virtual relay and expose to matter
Useful for something like ir blaster (not supported yet like power monitoring) you assign a fake relay like virtual relay 1 to send on/off ir command to tv

So until matter officially adds ir blasters support, this will do.

*
Actually how is the custom track design? Since you’re stuck with their Dooya curtain.
Can’t just request to make custom track then have them install different curtain motors?

Thanks for the helpful comments everyone. After reading so many I decided to go with Moes zigbee switches and dimmers as their switches seem the most tactile feeling and isn't too expensive. I also just ordered some ceiling mounted 24G human presence sensors.

But actually for the gateway I went to Taobao and found a 10-inch wall-mounted screen that fits into our wall boxes with built-in wired hub. Since I'm doing a whole house reno I'm able to wire POE to anywhere.

Now just waiting for the hub to arrive, then see if this all works well. For the end product I actually plan to integrate everything to Home Assistant hosted on a machine in my house that serves as:
1. Home Assistant server
2. Blue Iris NVR
3. NAS storage

Hence, I also ordered a Reolink POE doorbell to test to see their Home Assistant integration before deciding to buy their cameras for CCTV. Because I see Reolink as one of the only brands in Malaysia that has official Home Assistant + FTP documentation. Hope that once the zigbee touchsreen hub arrives it will work with ZHA integration. Wish me luck.

I've been trying to find zigbee windows/door sensors that doesn't use batteries but no luck so far :/ Cause don't want to deal with the headache to constantly check batteries. Would like something that is wired to the wall.

Actually this is a bit long. TL;DR
Trying to achieve a cloudless smart home setup, while keeping security systems on POE or powered with wire from wall. Not really looking to control any of my devices remotely, just want an ecosystem smart enough to switch things on and off on it's own.
*
The mmwave presence sensor is good enough for bathroom or any room without fans. With fan on it’s gonna give false presence reading

Aqara fp2 is probably too expensive so I’m waiting for LD6001 that can track 8 targets with better static detection.

I see, thanks for the headsup, nevef considered this. Luckily my plan is to put the mmwave sensor on the stairway, hallways and car porch. So should be okay.

For me I'm using the ZG-205 ceiling module from Taobao. The 24G version.
*
Btw, zigbee has a pretty good battery life in general.
You could just grab aqara ones, i haven’t changed mine for a few years now.

More importantly need to have good zigbee coverage around the house, 2nd floor usually needs another zigbee coordinator

Anyone got recommendation for 4 gang zigbee wall switches? Seems very difficult to find. Or have anyone tried converting traditional wall switches with 4 channel zigbee relay. https://s.lazada.com.my/s.8ydHV
*
Search for lerlink at aliexpress
For the 4 gang relay, you might need a spacer if the hole’s behind the switch not deep enough or wires too thick to fit in
