After seemingly being knocked back by Christian Benteke and Alexandre Lacazette, Liverpool's aim to sign a new striker looks to have moved further afield.

Spanish paper AS reports that Brendan Rodgers is interested in Real Madrid striker Denis Cheryshev.

The Russian striker has been at the Bernabeu for years, but is yet to feature for Real Madrid's first team. Instead, he scored four times for Villarreal last season when on a season-long loan. That's not hugely encouraging, but in fairness he did play as a left winger for most of the season.

Cheryshev is now 24, and AS say he is available for a fee of around €15m.

I watched the recent Espanyol vs Madrid match live and what struck me was the appalling attitude of the Madrid players, they were still (barely) in a title race but they wandered around the pitch berating each other, not moving for a ball that wasn't inch perfect, no effort to close down in midfield or defense, just waiting on a mistake from the opposition.

There were literally 2 of their players putting any effort in. The fact they still won the game 4-1 is extremely damning for Espanyol, rather than a sign of Real being anything special. With the players they have, and the shape they are in, they should be smashing these teams off the park. They just seem content to do the minimum though. I'd love and hate to be manager of Real, I have no idea how the hell you would manage all them egos and I imagine the changing room to be toxic.
