Hi, my relative gave me his Nikon D80 coz he didn't use it for a long time already. But there are some problems with the camera like the shutter release button won't take a picture when it is at Auto Focus and at some different modes, pictures taken are just black. Anyone heard of these issues before? I plan to take it for repair but just scared it costs a bomb.
check your AF settings.

some settings doesn't allow shutter to trigger when AF is not locked.

i think my lens got 1 side is quite blur... i think kena recalibrate.... how much cost for 24-70 recalibrate for that, also want send to service like clean sensor and lens... been long time didn't do that.

i forget any shops do that and how long for recalibrate lens?

like i turn to f/5- 6.5 or something the further object should be sharp (not DOF thingy) but it appear blured. unsure.gif

** i need double check first before decide to send to service...., i remember got a chart that show the sharpness of the lens... where is it already?

Just finished setting up my new macro kit, with flash of course but not included in the picture haha. Quite satisfied with it considering I have around 15-20cm of working distance left even with 3 extension tubes added at closest focusing distance biggrin.gif

Sample pics taken in the night just now, something new for me to try grabbing focus in almost total darkness but as most of the bugs are chilling and resting they gave me a lot of time to slowly focus.

mind if i ask.
are you using black cloth for this photo or a black cardboard?

user posted imageAn Ocher Satinwing- Euphaea ochracea ♂ by Ji Tan, on Flickr

This beautiful male damselfly is grouped under the Satinwing family Euphaeidae, displaying stout and relatively short bodies.

This particular species of damselflies are not uncommon, but are generally localized, preferring less disturbed areas near streams.

A Brown Sailor Spider up-closed, showing her unique 8-eyed arrangement.

This spider is waiting for the sun to set, so that she can start spinning her web and "hunt" during the night.

Anyway, here's a guide that might help you in your quest to photograph Jumping Spiders brows.gif

user posted imageParallel-spined Spiny Spider- Gasteracantha diardi by Ji Tan, on Flickr

Probably a young (and perhaps hungry) adult female, the older ones seem to have shinier carapace, as can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/59583171@N07/15193693593

When disturbed, Spiny Spiders will retract their legs close to their body so that they are covered and protected by the shelled abdomen... but be careful and note their fangs! They love to bite when in this position!

A Celebes Leucauge spider assuming resting position, with her forelegs being "left hanging". It is only when the spider is sure that the surrounding is safe before she really rests.

Anyone facing this problem? My D90 exposure has been erratic lately. Some pictures I have to dial +2 exposure just for a proper shot. It works well in outdoor but not very good in indoor/shaded area.
Is it possible because inside is dirty?
