Probably his solution would be to station 1 soldier for each 100 meters of sabah coastline. Then kidnapper sure cannot get here one.

Smart-S Mk2 Radar support VL-Mica and ESSM but not support Aster missile.

Unlike land borders that can be restricted due to geographical features (mountains, rivers, deserts) that can potentially be used as bottlenecks by law enforcement agencies, a sea border is much, much harder to police due to the fact that the sea is open and that intruders can literally go anywhere and make landfall anywhere they wish.

A porous sea border that people have traditionally ignored due to a shared culture between two countries is a particular nightmare. Close proximity to both countries also doesn't help. Sure you can spot a boat from far away by radar, but you can't possibly positively ID the intentions of its occupants by that alone. Between armed kidnappers or innocent fishermen, we can never know for certain which boat holds which unless you make a positive ID by checking the boat manually. And there is simply no way you can chase and canvass every single blip you can see on your radar screen.

You can check random boats to deter armed people, but beyond that is humanly impossible. I'm sure the authorities are doing all they can to combat these kinds of people with what they currently have, but to ask them for more is somewhat unrealistic unless major changes are employed.

well it not difficult, Esscom zone no international water, is sea border between Philippine or Indonesia. so priority to check boat in/out border. our fishermen also ban cross border to fishing. Is good to random check fisherman boat.
Also gov intention to required install (AIS) transponder in all Malaysia fisher boot, but than cost issue come out, each set cost 3-5k who want cover cost. still have argument on this.
other is those kidnappers no using fisher boot which slow to escape, they usually using more High-speed boat at sea, easy to track from radar, but than those high-speed boat usually small (3M²) than fisherman boat, usually radar only can track less than 10km from normal small polis/MMEA boat.
so to efficiency protection at sea is , setup at outpost or large ship (good radar) near sea border with few intercept boat with in 5-8km boarder each., setup intercept zone or forbid zone or close sea if something intruder case happen in land.
Off couse add helis to patrol, search and rescue is importance。

The main problem is the long sea border and very close proximity of Sabah and South Philippines. Armed people up to no good can literally come here with speedboats and escape back to the border within an hour. You check this boat and at the same time you're doing that there are probably 3-4 more boats criss-crossing the border unchecked.

That's why I take offense in people unnecesarily saying Malaysian authorities tak buat kerja.

India agree to purchase $500 Million USD Russian light helicopter design after Putin Charm offensive

user posted image
QUOTE
After years of delays and false starts, the Indian Defense Ministry has finally approved a major $471 million deal with Russian Helicopters to establish localized production of the Kamov Ka-226T light helicopter.

The deal, approved by the Indian Defense Ministry in a late-night session on Wednesday, focused on settling a wide range of standing contract proposals, newspaper The Times of India reported. President Vladimir Putin told India's PM Narendra Modi during a visit to New Delhi in December that Russia was interested in establishing production lines of Russian helicopters, news agency Reuters reported at the time.

The move came on the same day as a phone call between President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning, among other things, "several large joint trade and economic projects," according to a brief statement published Wednesday evening on the Kremlin website.

Russia is also giving India "full rights for domestic licensed production and for future market share, which is key to India's defense industrial strategy," it added.

PM Narendra Modi has been pursuing defense contracts that not only provide India's military with quality foreign hardware, but industrial know-how. One prominent example of Modi's defense industrial strategy was Wednesday's decision to approve a deal between Airbus and India's Tata Advanced Systems to establish local production of the C-295 military transport aircraft.

Russian Battle Robots Pass Military Trials

user posted image

Russia's Uran family of multirole battle robots have successfully passed military tests at the Novorossiysk proving grounds, a source in the military industry told RIA Novosti.

Unlike previous trials which tested the robots on an individual basis, this exercise had the battle robots work together as military units. The robots were controlled from a command center far away from the exercise site, according to the source.

"During tests at the Rayevsky proving grounds, engineering reconnaissance as well as the destruction of targets using machine guns and automatic cannons were tested. At the final stage of the exercises, battle robots practiced destroying armored equipment using anti-tank guided missiles," the source said.

The exercises were visited by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Army General Staff head Valery Gerasimov and several other high-ranking military officers.

Two of the Uran family robots will be demonstrated at the Army-2015 expo, including the mine-clearing robot and the firefighting robot, although armed robots are not mentioned in the press release.

Wreckage of misssing US Marine UH-1Y helicopter found near Chinese border

user posted image

The wreckage of a US military helicopter that went missing with eight people on board while delivering aid in quake-hit Nepal has been found near the Chinese border, the Nepalese army said Friday.

Major General Binoj Basnet said the helicopter, which disappeared on Tuesday, had been spotted from the air in a remote forest around 70 kilometres (40 miles) northeast of Kathmandu.

"We don't know if there are any survivors, we have yet to confirm that," Basnet told AFP by telephone.

"We have sighted the wreckage from the air, we are now trying to land in the area and get more information."

The US military said earlier that the UH-1Y Huey was carrying six US Marines and two soldiers from the Nepalese army when it went missing during a relief flight in eastern Nepal.

Sandakan kidnap: Fast track attack helicopter deployment, urges Musa Aman

SANDAKAN: Sabah cannot be held at ransom of cross border kidnappers any longer with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman asking Putrajaya to fast track the deployment of attack helicopters for the Eastern Sabah Security Zone.

Musa said that he spoke to the Prime Minister on Thursday night and asked him to allocate more assets to Sabah. He also highlighted the need for attack choppers to curb the cross border criminals.

“These kidnappings have to stop. Sabah cannot be repeatedly held for ransom,” he told the media after a briefing by top security personnel at his Sri Libaran house here on Friday.

“We can no longer just depend on speedboats. We need attack helicopters,” he said.

Musa, who is state security council chairman, said that the authorities must do whatever it takes to put an end to the kidnappings.

The daring abduction of two Malaysians by at least four Filipino gunmen at the Ocean King Seafood Restaurant on Thursday evening shocked Sabahans as the raid was along the mainland hardly 3kms from bustling Sandakan town.

Security forces in Sabah are continuing operations to hunt down the suspects and rescue the two kidnap victims.

China lacks fuselages to build more KJ-2000s

user posted image

Even after developing five types of early warning aircraft, China remains unable to build more than five KJ-2000s due to its lack of enough fuselages, according to a report by overseas Chinese news outlet Duowei on May 12.

China began the development of its first-generation early warning aircraft based on a Tu-4 bomber provided by the Soviet Union back in 1960s. However, China was unable to put the aircraft known as the KJ-1 into service because it could not build a proper radar system. It is still unclear whether China ever started test flights of the KJ-1. The aircraft is currently exhibited at the Chinese Aviation Museum located at Beijing.

In the late 1990s, China attempted to purchase a Phalcon radar system from Israel and install it into four Russian-built upgraded versions of the Il-76 cargo plane. However, the deal was cancelled due to protest from the United States. China then invested tremendous effort in the development of a future early warning aircraft's phased-array radar system. By combining the Il-76 with domestically designed disc-shaped radars, China successfully created the KJ-2000 in 2004.

Because all KJ-2000s have been built built with the fuselages of Il-76 cargo planes purchased from Russia, China is currently unable to produce the early warning aircraft in large numbers. Beijing has recently purchased similar aircraft from other countries, but none of them have been reported to be modified into KJ-2000s. To solve this problem, China is testing a new domistic cargo aircraft named the Y-20. However, its development is unlikely to be completed over the short term.

Sulu police: Armed men in Sabah kidnap may be heading for Region 9, ARMM areas

Armed men who reportedly kidnapped at least two people in Sabah on Thursday evening may be heading for the Zamboanga Peninsula or the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Sulu police said Friday.

GMA News correspondent Peewee Bacuño cited an initial report from the Sulu police indicating the armed men had taken victims from Sandakan in Sabah at about 6 p.m.

The police cited initial information showing the vicitms included a Chinese couple and the owner of a restaurant.

It also said it is verifying if the armed men also abducted other European tourists.

The Sulu police said it is informing local police, military and Coast Guard units in the areas concerned.

On Thursday evening, a report by Malaysia's The Star Online said armed men with suspected links to the Abu Sayyaf abducted a restaurant manager and a customer in Sandakan.

It said one of the four was armed with an automatic rifle with bullets strapped on his chest while another had a pistol.

The Star Online also said Sabah authorities are hunting the group, who the report said is believed to be "cross-border kidnap gangs" with links to the Abu Sayyaf.

The report quoted restaurant owner Chung Yan Tsim as saying those abducted included his sister-in-law, 48, and a male customer. Chung's sister-in-law manages the restaurant.

"They fled in a boat. They wore no mask and there was no shooting," Chung said.

It took the gunmen less than a minute to pull off the abduction. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
