Boeing, Saab Adapt Air Launched Small Bomb for Ground Launch

Test proves effectiveness of new rocket artillery capability

VIDSEL, Sweden, March 10, 2015 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Saab [Stockholm: SAAB] have proven that Boeing’s Small Diameter Bomb I, originally developed for use by aircraft, can be adapted for launch from a ground artillery system.
The companies recently tested the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), integrating the SDB I and M26 rocket motor technologies for the Multiple Launch Rocket System. The testing showed that the bomb can withstand a rocket artillery launch without its performance being compromised.

“GLSDB combines two highly successful, combat-proven systems into an effective ground forces offensive capability,” said Beth Kluba, vice president, Boeing Weapons and Missile Systems. “Boeing and Saab bring together deep knowledge of precision weapon systems and can quickly and cost-effectively deliver GLSDB domestically and around the world.”

GLSDB allows the artillery system to reach targets from significantly longer distances, and engage hard-to-reach targets, while maintaining the Small Diameter Bomb’s flight maneuverability and accuracy.
Under a teaming agreement signed last year, Boeing and Saab will offer GLSDB to current and future rocket artillery users. The rocket motor used during testing was provided by Nammo.

“Saab and Boeing have a history of successful cooperation that now extends into yet another technology area – precision weapons systems,” said Görgen Johansson, Head of the Dynamics Business Area within Saab AB. “Together, we now offer a new and game-changing capability for the U.S. as well as the global market.”

Saab serves the global market with world-leading products, services and solutions within military defence and civil security. Saab has operations and employees on all continents around the world. Through innovative, collaborative and pragmatic thinking, Saab develops, adopts and improves new technology to meet customers’ changing needs.

Lockheed Martin discusses evolving artillery capabilities

user posted image

For a company that has one of the most seasoned histories in the U.S. defence market, dating back more than 40 years, it is no surprise that its role in supporting the field artillery needs of both its American and international customers is held in high regard. From the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), we take a look at where the company's artillery focus lies today in this exclusive feature.

Hi just come back from a very busy schedule.
sigh too much project on hand.

anyway I did some reading on previous post.
some ask y not using meko design instead of using dsme.
well it were due to boustead unable to do 2major project at the same time.

As it was expected mica were selected.
well sgpv were design to be light frigates so dun expect much about it.
On the cost and price tags not much we can do on its as some of the money went into upgrading the boustead facilities.
For future upgrade it can utilize the buffer space to install essm or any other long range SAM capability.
as for camm if the development have completed during the announcement back in 2010 it might have been selected instead of mica.

For mmrca I still think we will be better off select gripen leasing option.

no agree .....
NMEL can partner with boustead to built corvette.... i means NMEL can built meko class too, just need cooperation with boustead.

will 2010 just tender for sgpv, decision on 2012 and that time sam/asm not decided yet. final design also not done. than both Mica and camm is using same vls, using mica/camm not the issue,  event until 2014 not yet decide sam/asm, so nothink related with camm development, it can order on 2013
only different is camm if quadpack means need more unit need to order than higher procurement cost.
*
Depend on the partnership and also the licence agreement.
I have doubt that boustead can share meko license with nmel or any third party.

Imo, mica deal are pretty much seal off way back 2013.
the only thing missing is loa.
Camm might not even been in the discussion.

ofcouse include buy license, same like buy DSME license.
i know, it need a bit future/advance thinking of navy procurement staff.

Lol. doh.gif
I mean boustead might have an issue to share or to sell their meko license with nmel or any other third party.

that for sure, need to discuss with Blohm+Voss too.  biggrin.gif
*
That would be a complicated issue to solves for nmel.
besides nmel have close partnership with dsme which is a better deal for nmel interest.

I do hope we make use of meko design unfortunately things dun goes the way we want it to be.

dont know why so many propose Erieys aew system to Malaysia event Indonesia,
Erieye have serious weakness due to can't cover 360* degree, what the point getting it,
maybe just for feel good go AEW, for for "real situation" not that good to use ...
if want cheap, from china more cheaper and cover 360 degree
*
Erieye use software to cover such weaknesses.
it seem that saab wanted to employ GaN tech into erieye radar which greatly improve it capabilities.
Though china aew is cheap there is an issues in datalink.
On procurement china aew will be view as high risk procurement compare to erieye.

----------

As for gripen

Yup the price tag include tot/ip, production kits and few more things.

ASH would be lot cheaper expected flyaway cost less than usd90mil for full spec.
unless we are going for Australian variant which consists of ew that would be above usd100mil.
though I dun think US will sell such variants to Malaysia. laugh.gif

How about refurbished/ upgraded super hornet + lease gripen + erieye

That way we keep our big bro happy and we can potentially stay within budget
*
Huh you mean 2nd hand hornet?
I dun think US will sell any of their SH or even legacy hornet.
since their f35 project were so fark up.
Best option we go for lease gripen + erieye if no budget.

easy if no budget, buy less hornet like 12 unit to replace Mig29.... 12 unit ASH still more efficient then mig29
Erieye can link with ASH or F18D too, even Su30mkm, not necessary Gripen.
*
Lease gripen is still the best option here.
Mainly we can get the aircraft in less than 1 years.
We can familiarise ourselves with the gripen if future we were intended to replace hawk with gripen.
we dun have to worry if the tech if outdated once the lease term over we give back to the swiss. laugh.gif start looking for the latest gen fighter instead.

QUOTE(thpace @ Mar 13 2015, 04:28 PM)
Yup f35 rubbish...

Look like new ash is the only option to keep big bro hapy. Or f16 hahaha
*
F16? If buy 1 free 3 I dun mind.
EF offer buy1 free 1. laugh.gif

F35 is rubish for now once it reach mature stage than it would be a scary fighter.
but US have to pray hard no world war in the period of time. tongue.gif

QUOTE(hafizushi @ Mar 13 2015, 04:31 PM)
I dont like the idea of 2nd hand airframe, I worried something might go wrong with the engine or the airframe which could risk the pilot life plus loosing some money too

If want make sure those are lowest hour airframe we can get.

tbf gov should just buy new one, for the sake of the pilot safety and should buy this year or next since we have alot of pilot soon will be no plane to fly. If want cheap Fa50 with aesa is good enough
*
That depend on maintenance status of the aircraft.
yes I dun like 2nd aircraft as well.

The news source says they would only provide the hull and basic machinery, the weapons would be fitted later by local company

But if only 2 ships, I would rather they opt for mrss.. rmn really need those types
Also mrss is not an offensive platform, so no problem if spratly gone bonkers
*
Same here I hope they opt for mrss instead.

Ok, here is the input on mig29nm.

Proposed by Airod and Malaysia's Sukhoi Technical Centre.
- airframe will have be extended 6000 hours from the current 4000 hours. In short migs will have 2000+ hours on the airframes after upgrade
- cft will be add on the aircraft’s dorsal spine aft of the cockpit. 30% increase in combat radius.
- radar, cockpit and avionics will be replace with latest.
- The work would be done in Malaysia under licence from RAC MiG.

2000 hours means around what..? 5-7 years?
dun want to upgrade the engines too i see..  sweat.gif

These upgrade is not going to be cheap either.
I think it should be costing around usd15mil per aircraft. hmm.gif

We can't afford that mistral class not because of debts but mainly operation cost.
Not to mention we need to buy some escort ship to protect it.
for now we should think about getting 3 lst or 2 ldp.

Probably we will be seeing 16cell a35.
For future hard to say if needed longer range missile they will just use the extra space allocated for future upgrade.
