ya, different people got different usage
as I found 120 / 128gb may enough, but somehow worry not enough since technology keep growing nowadays laugh.gif
better grab a 250 / 256gb tongue.gif

as a student, my ssd just install frequently used software like microsoft office, chrome, firefox
other installed on hdd tongue.gif
that why still got so many space laugh.gif
*
it's always better to have some buffers. however just don't go too far. it's really a waste of money. better save some so that you can grab new ones (with new techs) when they're available.

QUOTE(Wan.Him @ Mar 12 2016, 08:27 PM)
maybe below between 300 to 400. cheaper is better tongue.gif
*
i think transcend ssd370s is ok for you. it's MYR 350 at c-zone.

im at the same ship at the guy atm, im thinking of a new SSD to add on as games or whatever stuff that utilises the extra speed

but i just cant justify buying it sweat.gif

RM629 for 480GB seems.. steep
*
been there. in most cases (for personal computing), imo one sensible way to determine which capacity to go for in future is to check current use as reference. tbh most of us just need it to speed up boot time and most frequently used apps/games load times.

yeah price drop is slower than many thought. (on the brighter side, that's similar amount that i paid for much smaller ssds years ago haha)

Ya I do get you what you trying to talk, as you said technology keep growing
So by the time flies, those files also will getting bigger and bigger
Yet, once I graduate I will install those stuff related to my job mah tongue.gif
Now still early, just use the ssd around 3 months only laugh.gif
*
yeah haha when you work i think ssd will be cheaper than now also. just treat it as investment (it saves a lot of my time) can earn back one biggrin.gif

edit: i got hold of a kingston hyperx fury 240gb just now. maybe i will find some time to test it later.

the price of things with market demands usually drop slower. i saw a benq 35" curve 144hz 1440p monitor the other day. it's damn nice hehe

hey boss, now I've short listed a few 240gb ssd that within my budget
1. Kingston HyperX Savage
2. TRANSCEND SSD 370
3. SanDisk SSD PLUS
4. ADATA SP550
5. Intel 520 Series 240GB

which one is the best ? Thinking bout getting intel because it have 5 years warranty.
*
assuming you meant 'what is the best for bucks' here, and it's used for common use. my choice will be transcend ssd370, intel 520, or sandisk ssd plus. note that warranty wise intel 520 is nice but it's dated, and i'm not sure how intel treats products that have reached its end-of-life product cycle.

i will not choose tlc (adata.sp550) when there are mlc options. kingston hyperx savage is a mainstream ssd, for common use you don't need it. (if you really need mainstream drives, it's better just top up and get 850evo)

Edit: an alternative to intel 520 is hyperx fury.

Lazada selling SanDisk ssd ultra II 240gb for rm286 after Maybank promo is good deal? I'm looking for ssd to replace hdd with os, normal consumer usage.
*
Yeah it should be a good starting point. Common use is fine with this tlc ssd. At least it's still better than hdd.

dayum son, 5 second boot up time is real

so this is my firmware model SCSI\Disk________KINGSTON_SHFS37A608A eh

need to constantly update?
*
Yes it's real smile.gif

Read the upgrade notes to see if firmware upgrade is necessary. Usually i just check for new one before i do a clean os install.

Sequential speeds are bang on. Random speed lower but it must have to do with mobile sata controller. Power management can affect the speed which is on laptop usually a little aggressive than PC.
*
No it's not about sata port. There is no difference between desktop and mobille sata ports btw.

As i suspected, 4k alignment is off. The easiest way to fix this is to use the free minitool partition wizard to do realignment.

Downloaded and tried to align, pop up message said everything is already align.

that's weird. what about trying to do 'align all partitions'? http://www.partitionwizard.com/help/align-...partitions.html

just to be sure, check the alignment manually. press win key + r and type 'msinfo32'. goto system summary > components > storage > disks. get the value for 'partition starting offset' of your ssd and then use calculator to divide it with 4096. if the result is a whole number, then the alignment is ok. if it's a decimal, then it's bad.

if aligning all partitions also doesn't work, i guess you should find out other ways online (there are many ways to do 4k alignment). i use this free minitool partition wizard previously and it worked for me.

worst comes to worst, use diskpart > clean on ssd and start over. (it's a sure-fix for 4k alignment)

Appreciate your guidance!
Done Align All Partition too but nothing.
I divided the number and it's a whole number 1 048 576 / 4096 = 256

I guess I'll just do a fresh install if I'm still dissatisfy with it. bangwall.gif
*
after alignment, reboot the computer.

about the number you got, this was why i said weird. usually as.ssd benchmark shows the correct results fine in my case. there is no need to do manual calculations.

edit: btw, 4k misalignment is kind of common during os migration from hdd to ssd, and usually the minitool freeware version will fix it. i'm just not sure why it didn't work for you.

Hi and sorry for my part, I'm embarrassed to say that I actually didn't align it.
I did not click the Apply button... doh.gif  blush.gif

That aside, after aligning the partition here's the result.

[attachmentid=6229020]
I also have a question regarding 1 of my Partition which was in FAT32 and have 500MB in it.
This partition actually need to align too but whenever I tried to, it keep pop out error so I only align C:\
*
haha ok now that's more like it. now you know the impact of 4k misalignment to ssd smile.gif

if it's one of the system partitions, you cannot do it when the ssd is active. there is a free bootable tool provided by minitool at http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

you can create a bootable usb via rufus with it, then boot your computer with it to do 4k alignment. alternatively, connect the ssd to another computer via sata port as secondary drive, run minitool partition wizard on that computer to fix it.

As in boot directly from the USB and then do 4k alignment on the partition?
Sadly it's a M.2. slot and my desktop doesn't seems to support it.

*
yes, boot directly from usb.

i forgot about the m.2 thing hehe
