if all your devices support usb 3.1 it's ok to get it i think. mine don't so i will wait until all my usb 3.0 adapters failed first haha

er it's better to check bios and other dependencies first. ssd runs on ahci or raid mode in sata operations. (most sata ssds require ahci mode to do firmware upgrades or maintenance) in terms of performance, it's better to use at least sata2. (sata1 is slow) of course you can still leverage on its high iops, but i'm not sure of its effective performance boost compared to sata3.

about bios compatibility, maybe the user manual for your dell model can help.

as for the intel ssd, the current one is 540s. from reviews its performance is bad in general. you should choose others tbh.

i think you need to look for a t5 elsewhere instead of here, as of now, since it's still very new. (maybe cheaper than local units, relatively)

external ssd storage is still not popular here. it might come in but not anytime soon i guess.
