So yeah, I recently inherited my late Granddad's 1966 VW beetle, and after driving it around for a while I've come to the conclusion that it's a monument of a car. But then again, it had an engine overhaul, a bastardized airconditioner installed, as well as redone electrics. *Man it took me 2 years to freaking look for a decent VW workshop
Even so, a monument of a car. Sure the pick-up sucks and the leaf springs and break drums aren't cutting edge, but when you're driving what is considered by JPJ as an antique, and a tank no less, you have some sort of pride which is unexplainable. That and screaming down the highway at 70mph overtaking most other kit cars  it really is a beautifully carCome On! A show of force of the Classic VW Beetle! |

i've seen one of the guy who spray it all yellow and decorate it. It looks very new and the owner jaga it very well. very nice indeed! if i'm not mistaken u can get it not over 10k for this car just u need money to turn the duck into a swan and repaair maintain it.
Beetles are always so nice! how i wish i got the new beetles >.< |

Do count me in, i am interest in Classic beetle also, and see my Avatar pic, it is my Beetle, it is manufactured in 1973.
For forumer who are interest in classical beetle, pls do join this thread and share some pic of classical beetle here. we can share our knowledge on beetle like how to maintain, DIY, some good workmanship workshop. i think we should make this thread clean so pls don't post some useless comment here ok, thanks. today just collect my beetle from the workshop for sucessfully done on engine transplant, it cost me RM4000 for all including change for front wheel bearing.
Hvn't test drive yet, tomorrow will go to service my air con. Yet to exciting test drive my beetle, haha. |

hmmm? 4k for the Engine alone? what about the axel, tyre alignment, brakes and suspension?
Leaf springs and Drum Breaks need to be regularly checked up |

My father got one of this. A red color one. He bought from a fren. It was his frens baby but his wife was b****ing abt it coz the car takes up space at the house since he nvr drive it often. Sayang ma... hahaha. So he sold off to my father with one condition. Dont sell it to other ppl. So here it is now, with my father. His using it for everyday drive to work. Abt 20km a day. So, on market how much does this classic beetle still worth?

Now, aircond's on the other hand can either add value or devaluate the VW. Price would go down when 1) The aircond is a cheap one with tacky assemblage 2) A Hardcore beetle owner who wants to keep the classic look doesn't want the air cond but even then, my aircond cost 2k to install, though it didn't add 2k in value to the car |

Haha... actually i've nvr sit in the vw beetle before. Coz im not living with my family ma. So far nvr had the urge to jump into it yet. Anyhow once i have a chance i'll take some pictures of it. Not anytime soon tho. Maybe will be back around raya time.

Actually the price is quote high already, actually the engine cost around RM2300++ with new spark plug plus service front wheel bearing, clean drum brake , not sure about the leaf spring, air con bearing (not sure), rubber and lili lala, all is RM3400++ include labour charge, engine is 1200cc, hvn't report to jpj yet, i think i will ask the help from runner, u guys know how much it cosT?
then i went for servicing air con for next day only cost around RM70++ (cheap) now the car is quite nice already, i will well keep it, not like last time always rev kaw kaw, and my friend at rear view of my car saw my exhaust pipe pop up fire like turbo  the exterior still need more time on it, last time just finish painting so no rust on the body yet, but the car always park overnight at outdoor, so hv to always take care of it, any method to take care of the paint? for the car wheel cover (the chrome with vw logo cover), it has a bit rust on it, do u guys know how to make it kilat and rid of the rust? and the "sprays water" at wiper there also not functioning already, i plan to restore it but think about it like no use also. for u guy mention about the car wiring (electric) system, i am not sure about it can u guys eleborate more? wht kind is consider good and bad? |

Why do you need to report to JPJ? As long as you don't change the engine block itself or make any modifications to the chassis you're okay... Unless you're talking about renewing road tax then you have to go to puspakom to get it checked up. If your road tax disc has been expired for more than a year. If I remember correctly my puspakom check cost 45linggit cuz I had the floor panels of my car replaced. Regarding the electrics, it's more of the wiring that you should be concerend about, the starter, connections to the batteries and lamps. I doubt you're still using the original wiring or even the original starter but better check to be sure. That and check on your alternator, if you have problems starting your car in quick succession you prolly need to invest in a new one, or something with a larger capacity In regards to your paint, just get a proper paint job 3-5 layers of standard powdered paint, with atleast 2 layers of undercoating. Wax and Polish every fortnight to deter against the harshest weather conditions. The rust on the chrome takes ALOT of elbow grease, expect to spend atleast a day buffing and polishing it with brass polish, took me a whole afternoon just to touch up my VW badge, I might consider sending my kangaroo bars to be polished at a shop since I don't have the patience to do so. |

last night i was try the engine (but actually no drive around), just start, open headlight, switch on air con, but when i start it seem not very smooth, even my previous engine easy to start! don't know how la, drive some time just back for tuning.

Looks like I'm in the same boat. My mom's father has a white 1963 VW Bug, which still works, but looks a bit run down and had a small knock on the front right fender. Too bad some rats stole two of the car's original hubcaps a year or two back. We had to take off the remaining two and store it inside the house.

wow, askar_icy. i'm suprised that there is still a lot going on here. anyway, my beetle is in very bad condition now, involved in an accident previously. no money to fix. only did the panel beating stuff. might be selling the car off once it is fixed. maybe i'll join u guys for the TT. depending on availability of the car coz might be sending it for a respray. anyone here knows how much is a new rear bumper? coz mine bengkok and now knock back already not chrome already. sigh. classic car is fun to drive until u need to change those big big parts. not wear and tear parts. cheers.

Hello there,i juz saw this forum...my fren guide me to here since i got a red VW bettles year 1965.but now it juz "sleep" at my johor home since my dad passed away..now i try to continue my dad's dream and try to make it "wake up" and make it a "legend"again..
currently i am in PJ,last 3 month when i went home i figured out that there's 4 part which got problem,first it hard to start up,second the back wheel brake will jam when run half way,third when drive the car it seems like unstable cuz keep up choking all way long...is it because of the spark plug spoil??and the air cond got some gas smell dono why..my VW location is at a small town called Yong Peng which near Batu Pahat.. so my question is,how much if need to repair the problem that i mention? where is the nearest location that i can repair it around Yong Peng? is it possible to drive it from JB to KL?Cuz even my dad also never test it..tha farest is went to segamat.. and is it durable to run long distance? as last time my dad bought it because of his dream to drive this car and he love it very much and treat it as "second wife"..hehe...even my mom sometime also jealous..hehe The whole car's wiring was done by my dad himself..i'm surprise that it is very tidy.. now i wish to make it alive back and continue my dad's dream..and actually i also love it very much cuz very comfort when driving it.. hope that all the fourmers here can guide me to make it alive..altough i not a fast learner..but pls teach me how to maintain it and wat are the things that need to be careful..thanks... and oh ya,i wish to bring this VW to PJ do u all think is it a good idea? any VW lovers live in PJ?and may i know where can hv a service and repair it in PJ area?i live in Kelana Jaya here..i planned to bring it here during national day..which is this month.. and is it i can join u guys so that i can learn more bout it? thanks a lot..hope got sifu here can teach me bout the machanical things.. thanks a lot.. The beetle sifus down at http://mostlymyvw.18.forumer.com may be able to offer you some advice on the technical issues affecting your bug. Most of them are Malaysian Volkswagen owners. As for me, I am too a newbie on the beetle, so unfortunately I can't offer you much concrete advice. Nevertheless, good luck in your pursuit of beetle restoration! |

hi there everyone! i'm new here. recently me and my sis have bought over my grandpa's 1973 beetle (cos he's selling it but me and sis has got some sentimental values with the bug).. so we decided to restore it and make it shine again.
to tell u the truth, i know nuts about the beetle so any kind soul here can guide me through the restoration works? i need to know if there's any reputable workshops in MLK or KL that i can go to. prefer MLK cos the beetle is stationed there. my sis wanted to convert it to an auto.. dunno whether izzit possible or not. things that we plan to do: replace rusty+broken parts, upgrade air conditioner (dunno feasible or not), change all necessary parts thx for reading btw This post has been edited by moo moo: Sep 12 2008, 12:31 AM |

you can install an aircond, but it'll sap the power right out of the engine especially on the smaller 1200cc engines so i wouldn't suggest it.
My poor old 1200cc '66 is suffering because of my decision to put in an aircond |

VW auto shifts uses a sensor which sense the engine giving much torque to the gear then only it enables the gear even when u already leave it on 1.so it means,a very "slow" reaction on pick up. it means when u stopped at traffic,by the time it gets green light,u put your gears on 1 and stepped on accel pedal,it had to wait for 2 or more seconds before the gears actually get intact and move forwards. so when you're driving and VW original Auto ,please step on gas before it turns green...hahahhahaa brows.gif well due all respects i really hope that VW can be alive among us teenagers and to let you all learn more about VW why don't u all join these forum? english and alot to learn/buy : www.volksriders.org (aka mostlymyvw.com) chinese vw with china and hk pros : http://carivw.forumz.cc bought an engine with my friend to be a project. we decided to open it up and do an overhaul on it...  it's the first time for us.but everything must have a breakthrough...so we used a half day to drop the engine from the car...and taking it out gave us a hard time..(man it ain't light!!)    so the dismantling starts...everything is so easy to take out..hahahaha..   (if you don't know,this is the fan housing plus air filter plus intake manifold.)  rocker arm taken off  cylinder head taken off  and cylinder itself being taken off...  the pistons after being sand..blocks being modified a lil.  valve grinding before and after...  special tools for valve spring locking  valve adjustment  this is how the engine looks like now. we used alot of plastic cups to store those bolts and nuts then label them up we took out from which place.yet we still lost a few screws...but no sweat,just go and buy them.anyway they're all old and rusted,actually if really wana make performance better buy new one. oh btw,i've done alot of mistake here... first of all,should've took video when open the engine,then when put it up,follow the sequence how we dismantled the engine. and 2nd mistake is those aluminium tins,we tot they were annoying and useless,so we did not put them back in... end up i read on books they're essential for air flow even just a tiny lil piece.so rmbr never throw anything from your engine...these german build them for a reason....lol... u wana overhaul your engine? come let's do it together...i'm feeling fun for it~ well anyway my original 1.6cc engine now's on the floor... but might not be touching it so soon until i go malacca lai kam wah and/or thailand bangkok to get some performance part for it. i think i want to make it a performance engine. (maybe a 2.0cc? hehehehe) if u happen to know any piston suit for 2.0bore,please let me know ok? oh btw,ur dad sells car rite? any lubang to get anymore engine? |

dude, i am also a VW bettle owner, inherited it from my father, have been my loyal car for a straight 5 years, been broken down and tow back to workshop more than 5 times on the road, but now seldom drive it since i got my new car, coz VW is a fuel gazer!!
anyway, if u wants to find 2nd hand spare parts and engines for VW, i have a place to recommend, its at old klang road, near pearl point hotel, beside pearl point, there a road, beside the road is a furniture shop, and beside the furniture shop is a HSL electrical shop, the workshop is juz behind the electrical shop, and the workshop is a wooden house kinda shop... when u go in, u will know is a VW shop coz there will be some VW there.. the mechanic is my VW mechanic, thanks to him my VW is still running till today.. and there a shop at old klang road too, on the way to subang and sunway if u r usin the old klang road, if i not mistaken, the shop is called CONCEPT, which sells new VW spare parts. |

i now using 1.3..so not going to do any overhaul thingy at all..i'm going to get a 1.6..not so fast lar..cause i just buy lots of part for my car..rims..change all the brake pumps..tires..all over there also cost a boom to me..by the way..where u get all those parts to do overhaul job??u overhaul at your house ah??how long does it took u to finish all the job?? |

well...8k to 25k..will get a start from there..and also proper engine is refering to the conditon or the cc itself??1.3 and 1.6 beetle sometime can get at the same price..
 sumtime 1.3 also will be much more expensive then 1.6..willing seller and willing buyer..also if u get cheap..u might need to spend a little more to get some stuff fixed..rm15k is a good car already..everything should be in tip-top condition..can say buy and drive lor.. |

normal engine also can use 2 carb..1.3 or 1.2 also can use..but u got to do some modify on it lar..if i not mistake..
spoiler sure got..but not orginal volkswagen wan..is from other car made or you can custom made.. |

umm..more pick up power lor..mau potong kereta lagi senang..
got people said if they use 2 carb..on city minyak habis cepat..but if u go for traveling..long long ride..jimat minyak..got a few machanic already approved this statement..1 of it is very famous machanic at johor that builds lots of singapore car engine..jit ming if i not mistaken his name.. |

Fentul:yes fitting dual carb can give u "extra" power.and the FC is almost the same as single carb.there're few kinds of dual carb la,some ppl they just put normal carb,some they put progressive carb..therefore,the result is different. btw...don't do it if u don't have a good mechanic or u yourself don't know how to tune...caz it'll be pain in the As$ when tuning twin carb...really really not easy..and don't compare with Volvo's twin carb...they're different.i've seen ppl tune these two before. wash your engine? you mean just wash the surface right? well,go to ACE and buy something called "engine degreaser" don't get something cheap,price pays for the quality.i recommend u to go for something about RM20+..or u can get in parkson too,normally they have the "ok" brand. then do u have pipe or sprinkler? u spray the degreaser all over your engine compartment including your rear bonnet,leave it for 10minutes.(besure u put newspaper or etc underneath the whole engine compartment.) then simply use sprinkler wash off the dirt.if ur engine is really dirty,u might need : 1. tooth brush 2. rough sponge (those green colour to wash dishes will do) 3. clothe after u sprinkle your engine compartment then u see which part isn't clean,u dry it and spray the engine degreaser again,use rough sponge to clean it,or use tooth brush if hard to reach.then wipe it off with clothe and spray degreaser again if still not nice..finally sprinkle with water again. the next time when u see your engine dirty u just simply spray the degreaser,wipe or not up to u but don't need to sprinkle w water anymore. *note,please do not wet your carburetor's air intake.n air filter. Added on October 13, 2008, 4:43 pmdo u feel that the engine is noisy? sometimes the exhaust heater chanel might leak so the exhaust surrounded your engine compartment made it all balck. askar..1 more important thing u forget to tell..
make sure ur engine is cool down..even ur hand can touch and feel is cold..warm is also not that good..best thing is to clean/cuci ur engine before u start it up..a sudden change of temp. will a lot of damage in long term..also that's y silicon seal is not that good.. u also wan tat bumble bee transformer??if u comfirm i ask my friend try to get for u wor..the price around 80 to 120 wor..got to bid..lowest is 80..highest is 120 which means quick grab..  i got mine at rm85.90 i think.. got black color wan..black color is much more expensive..limited edition.. |

super beetle macam beetle biasa juga..cuma spec dia lain sedikit..semua spec telah "dicanggihkan" dari bawah hingga atas..kiri sampai kanan..depan sampai belakang..dan super beetle mesti ada seatbelt..

i want to clear up some misunderstanding here!!! not to say u're wrong soyabean...um.. but according to law,those cars before and during '60s don't require seat belt "as is" unless ur previous owner tangan gatal went to tebuk the seat belt hole. as i know,all cars incl beetle which came in since '71 included seat belt.so it means that super beetle is compulsory with seat belt. abbout rear seat belt,it's confirm that beetle is exempted,as the law says it's require for cars after 1995 or so,and also if the car manufacturer is still producing somewhat alike cars then the car have to send back to manufacturer to install rear seat belts. ok about disc breaks,yes,in fact mine is an original vw disc break. and yes as wat soya said,we can fit high performance disc breaks too as in sky line,supra etc. ok okey,i mungkin jumaat gi melaka...tapi bukan ngan beetle la...gi ngan kawan...u kat bkt beruang kan?i tengok kawan i bleh gi sana tak aka free tak. |

well guitarwanker,making an engine weaker becaz of installing an aircond is partially true..
as for my 1.6 engine,i felt no difference when switching the aircond on.i've tried 1.3 with aircond as well...not significant. well then u say alternative way such as consuming power from battery for the aircond? it's not possible.well it's the same case for any modern car as well. the air cond has a "generator"(soyabean help me i suddenly forgot the name) to "pump" the gas to your air cond blower,and it was "run" thru your engine by connecting both the generator and engine with pulley belts. even local made modern cars,when u switch on the air cond,u might notice that your car jerks a lil when u hear the air cond start "pumping the gas". well anyway alternative to avoid such scenario : 1. don't use air cond and use fan instead~ (hey!Green Environment is good!) 2. change to 1.6cc engine 3. use a smaller (weaker) "generator" one of my fren uses kelisa's.looks neat u know?! |

if i'm you, i'll take my money to get audio 1st..cause speedometer don't really do much beside telling u how fast u are going..audio can entertain u during jam or during those road trip.. u comfirm ur speedometer spoil??maybe is the speedometer cable snap off only..that one can be change cheap cheap..but for sure u got to make sure which is not working.. install audio or hid won't effect ur performance..just that u got to change to a bigger batt. |

if u get a better alternator..it will take up more power..cause the better the alternator is..the cooler the air-cond is..if the air-cond is cooler..means they need more power from the engine..
if u install already..u can try to play weight reduction..throw out every rubbish out of ur car..smaller tires..light aloy rims..front and back bumper take off..back seat take off..spare tire take off..tools take off..replace all this stuff with an AAM card.. |

bigger amp alternator hence generate more juice for your car devices , hence battery wont be drain as the alternator charge more as for the compressor of your aircond it will require some tuning to compress the aircond gas

definitely not alternator for air cond... i still forget wat it's named... anyway...as i said,try using "smaller" like kelisa's but then yea it's not as cold... ofcaz changing audio and other stuff doesn't affect performance,but heck,since you're driving a VW,what kinda "performance" do u wish to see? each person has different kinda meaning... anyway if u're in kl,maybe u can let us know where u (n ur vw) are and maybe we here can have a TT then go to see your vw... hehe...then we'll learn more together. ok? i think i reli blind... i only read about alternator u typed.. hahhaha... but then walao eh... ofcaz itreat u as fren laaaaaa =_=" guitar wanker...yeah i understand already...so as wat i suggest... go find a weaker or smaller compressor if u really want air cond. like kelisa's.i think the best is you find small cc modern cars then u try with their compressor. as for electrical appliances.the simplest way is to add in more relays as u add in any accessories.cheap and easy to install. electrical or wiring stuff if you're keen i can recommend u to a shop he done a nice work. about the ngv...don't say stupid la...actually it's a very good idea you know...i thought of installing it as well...anyway....i called and ask and that guy told me to wait his call he will see my car but...no response after that and i sms him no more reply... so i've yet to find another ngv shop to answer me. y not we go together one day?then go TT hahaha.. |

lol , get kancil 660cc compresor should be sufficient for you , get a bigger amp alternator then you can get more power without draining your batt if you want to use more electrical device/acc , but for the fitting for blower and cooling coil its another thing

different type of installation.. i know what u mean..urs and mine same... ours the blower in the car,the blower hangs under the dash right? well for some who plays classic.. this is really ugly for them.. so they changed the place for blower.. they placed it in the bonnet,and then the air was directed thru hoses to air vents etc....some to the speedometer grill. |

if u really wanna get that kind of van..i think roughly 20k is minimum(don't think the condition is that good also)..to 40k maybe..u can go down to johor to have a loot..johor is the best place to hunt for classic volkswagen..

anyway gald to see a few more new faces...please join in frequent wether u have or doesnt have VW. btw...fipoch...20k...IMO it's an impossible task.u want one?i can show u one... rusted all around,parts gone here n there,no engine,this n that also asking for 40k. well anyway,this is also a combi,it's earlier model and it's called split window combi.safari is unique as it has 23 windows. this only has 13 windows.so another words it's a 13's minibus/minivan/microbus. johor....if u can find,chances are u will need to come out with around 100k,no joke,that is the s'porean price. if u wan cheaper,i suggest u go kedah,ipoh or kelantan. if u have no experience in VW,better don't look for a bay window first,FYI it is the most expensive VW in terms of maintnance itself.not to say all the spare parts are rare items and u'll need to order from states. but if u really want it,why not,we all here would love to see someone restore this baby. purple one in taipan? are u kidding me?i go there almost everyday..how come i din see it!!!aiks!!!! now i want to hunt the microbus already... no lor..i cut the hole at the number plate holder there..then build 3 more metal to cover up the side and the back..leaving the top open..but must see how it works 1st lar..i also not sure how to do it..but comfirm must cut jor wan..tat's y i dun wanna spend so much money on the back lid..very expensive all together if i buy and plus modify the lid.. |

yes i think the air flow would be real good.. but from wat u explain,i'm afraid u need to think of ways to let water comes out fast when rain heavily as it "scoops" the water in! unless u used 4 or 5 pieces of metal to make the water flows "outside" the engine compartment...i'm not so sure,need experiment for that... i try use paint and draw what i'm thinking off.... wait a while. |

this is wat i think off...despite of the pop out ones,inside will have another metal with alot of louverd,be sure the bottom is not close so that no water is trapped there and no rust issues hopefully,u can see inside the bonnet,where the red colour stuff,that maybe other metal or simply find plastics to guide the water and flow it out from the bottom part of bonnet or put a pipe to guide it down from,say,our useless heater channel holes?

saya rasa wayar yang dia sambung at the main supply tu ada problem sedikit..sebab bila teken brake..ada brake light kat belakang tu nyala.. dia short kat main supply tu lar..yang ada banyak banyak fuis tu..dia kena cari supply yang betul/cukup..kalau radio awak tu share supply dengan benda yang lain..harap awak faham apa lar yang saya cakap..

find out if your radio wire goes to the same fuse location with other wire,simply take it out and stick at another one and try again (make sure u overlook if the fuse colour is the same as it indicates the AMP) if it still occurs,place back the wire on the original place where u took out and go to shop and check... |

no la..the voltage is the same 12v only ma...some even just 6v...
see the fuse colour one..for lights if not mistaken they have gone thru another stuff...i forgot wat's the name already..regulator? |

he's using a tester to see if the electric is stable and then put it on the suitable fuse.
um...rewire see how u want it to be... it costs from 800 to 3k the range. originally the wires are all in the cars inside pillars,local mech they pull the wires under the car with air cond cable. get ur self some heavy duty wires,save costs than to let the mech buy. trust me. |

but make sure they don't get it wrong oh..cause usually those ppl dun really know how volkswagen wiring works..they simply put only..then sure some function will missing..maybe wiper cannot use..or highlight..anyway..after u finish do the wiring..better check all..even reverse light..

i also wish i can do my beetle some DIY job..but mostly i only can do for few hours of DIY job..cause my beetle is my daily ride..i dun reallyl like to drive honda or toyota..but i like to drive my beetle around..even it's not powerful or not sporty..i still like my beetle..and sorry if there is any toyota or honda fans here..

umm..memang tak elok lar..tapi kalau cakap tulang floorboard..saya rasa apa apa pun..floorboard dari brazil punya tulang baik sedikit..sebab dia orang tu pakai mesin buat..bukan macam kita orang pakai ketuk jer..
tentang nipis..memang sah floor board brazil nipis dari buatan m'sia kita so dua dua tu ada kelebihan dan kelemahan juga..kalau pakai barang kita..mesin dia orang.. comfirm bagus..kalau kau dah pakai floorboard brazil..kena jaga jaga sedikit lar..macam saya pakai floorboard buatan m'sia ada sapu cat kat bawah juga..2 tahun sapu sekali..(so far..baru jer kereta saya restore 2 tahun.. ) |

performance beetle cannot use as daily ride..if u wan..also can only maximum use as weekend ride..i'm now currently kepala pening..wanna get a 1.6 transplant soon also susah already..
for me..if i can get tat 1.6 transplant..i will tune my car as a street ride..daily street ride will be good..dual crab..exhaust and some cooling system will be good for me..also most of all..my suspension must in the proper tune too.. |

as what i know,boge has alot of complaint on it...since it's believed to be made in china...(dun care wat it prints there..)
as for kayaba...it's not oem so yeah u need to modify it...and i also heard that kayaba not as long last as bilstein or sachs ... about tein...i tot u meant bilstein...i never heard of tein...hahaha |

wan to mod your beetle into running machine? u have to go to JB man... put in a rotary engine... hehehehe... but for me, overhauling the engine,if got money,lighten the flywheel,crank,rocker everything u can lighten in the engine... oh,and use aftermarket sports pushrods and also tuned rocker arm with slightly nudged end and different valve (of course the spring too) and specific clearance,use better distributor,provide better electricity... wow...the list just goes on n on n on.... i think for better performance u've gotta ask a specialist or visit the samba forum. |

normally wat we have and can do over here is 1.6 engine..twin crab..and exhaust with a little low rider..that is enough already..
the more performace part u put in ur engine..the more ur engine won't last that long..but depends how is the setup u having..my friend build a 2387cc engine..last around 9 years..then recently the rocker arm spoil..same goes with the rest of those performance parts.. but anyhow..johor lots of ppl can do nice nice beetle..but becareful..their "knife" very "sharp"..if they thought u are from singapore..they will give u "singapore price"..
also another guy called Jit Ming or something with Ah Ming at johor..he is good in doing/building up a engine even he have lots of idea how to do beetle up with a stronger way..but becareful..he is kind of cunning..be smart.. the car with tat "big" fan..cost 40k..i think is 40k SG..cause the owner of that car is from SG..look at the exhaust..is cerimic(dunno spelling) coated wan.. lol..that engine is classic that can screw up ur car if u dun handle with care..
also that engine is kind of hard to get already..in m'sia..i think very limited stock and parts of that engine cost u lot lot of money.. |

thunder , if you want better paintwork , i recommend you scrap the paint yourself , then send to workshop to do the welding job then let the other do paint job , cause you never use the car for some time , i hope the body work never rust much , lol macam my car -.- alot rust haha

btw way guys.. wanna ask u bout my vw carb.. where can find a recon good n working carb?? coz mine got a problem.. huhu.. the car cannot go for normal timing..must adjust to high n the car will not die on the road while stopping.. coz this is the problem happens to my car.. huhu.. if adjust to normal fine timing..when on the air cond.. surely died.. must increase the timing than the aircond can be used.. coz lots ppl said it b'coz of the carb problem..sum of them don't have this problem..if this happen to any of u guys?? got solution for this?? |

i also wanna learn how to diy a bit leh..my old carb..got problem..the screw/thingy the size is like the spark plug, the thingy function is if the thingy longgar..the timing will run off..kind of like mati engine veay easy..so wat happend is the thingy i screw too hard..then the hole crack already..so now this thingy is kind of longgar all the time and i go to change a new carb..

ya ya.. i got simptom like soya.. "the timing will run off..kind of like mati engine veay easy" from high---------> low.... then.. wanna died... have to press the pedal minyak to keep the enjin run....like a drifter skill..press brake... heel pedal minyak.. hehehe..normally happens after wanna drop gear at traffic light or stuck in jem.. afraid if the car go died suddenly on the road.. wakakaka.. few times exp..already.. huhu... on klia highway.. elite... usj 9 perumahan.. ahahah...

no it's not called hot rod...
it's chopped n dropped. the red circle thingy u can change in any vw workshop. i do not know if that affects in timing.. but my guesses are the gas inlet and air inlet screws are screwed up so u both facing the same problem... if the screw thingy was over screwed,means it making holes in the carb,so sorry,no more medicine would cure the carb.... |

that thingy..i screw will effect the timing..make ur car mati engine often..also the screw is nothing..the hole i screw this thingy in got problem..old carbs always have this problem..the thread will gone then the side will crack and say bye bye to the carb..so i'm looking for any super duper glue to see can fix this problem or not..cause that hole will leak some petrol out..so i got to get those glue that are good along with petrol..
Thunder05 if the screw is lose and u tighten it and still loose again..u go apply a few layers of those white tape..(those ppl use for sealing leaking hose..)then screw it back..then can already..but make sure u don't cover a smally tiny hole in that "thingy"..if u cover that..the timing will gone..for new model of carb..i think the "thingy" is not hole..is spring type wan.. |

guys...
if petrol is dripping out,please becareful,try and send to repair asap.. alot of beetle got burnt becaz of the same issue,petrol drip out from carb and initially touches the distributor or coil therefore making sparks and burnt. |

askar..actually all carbs will leak some petrol out..depend how serious is it..even my new carb..when i do some cleaing at my engine area..i notice at the back of my carb will have those thick yellowish stain..when i smell it..it smells like petrol..

vaporised n leak are big different... if u "see" or felt the surface of the carb is "wet" or "cold" it's normal. if u practically sees a drop of petrol it's not normal... even so my carb only has vaporised at right side facing the altrernator n very minimum. |

normal plastic type filter lo...
inside my petrol pump also got filter wan my minimum ah... can see wet mark but when touch it's dry... how to explain leh.. like u put a drop of petrol on bare metal,it will spread very quickly to all over the surface,and u can see it is wet,but when u touch there's nothing.even if u put fire on it(the metal not the carb) also it wont burn lo.. |

yes,even the one in your photo i think inside is also paper.
the reason why add oil is to let the filter works better as in stick the dust and small dirts on the oil.but there's a bad thing about the filter on ur photo,which is can't wash,about the big bazooka,it can wash.when i found the pic i'll tell u. ori rim...i think around 450 MAX. depend on how many lugs. the cheapest i get rid off is rm200 (rm50 per rim) but the cap wouldn't be as cheap as u think if u wana get german ori. now u can buy new ones which were made in mexico and within months it'll rust don't care how well u take care of it. |

ah??the oil filter in my photo is only oil..all oil..no paper wan wor..then that filter also no need to wash..just pour those oil out and refill a new one..the job done..
that steel orginal rim i think now a bit hard to get..i still keep mine.. with lots of caps for spare got german made got brazil made..those that in my photo is german wan..until now still kilat kilat |

dulu masa i nak beli rim..kedai kat klang tu saya call..dia offer saya rm1.8k untuk rim jer..nut tak termasuk..1 nut rm8..1 rim kena pakai 4 nut..jadi semua kena ada 16..harga nut tu je..dah rm120++..mintak better offer..dia kata rim rm1.7k..nut semua rm100...i call workshop kat puchong..dia offer rm1.5k tapi 2nd hand lar..so i tanya tanya kawan dia orang suruh pergi johor beli..rm1.5k termasuk semua 16 nut tu..baru punya rim lagi.. lagi pun..kawak saya cakap..kalau kau nak buat disc brake pakai jepun punya kepala..rim brm dia dalam sedikit..boleh pasang muat muat kalau nak pakai disc brake yang besar sedikit..kalau pakai rim pisang..kena pakai spacer.. aku bw td pun cruising jer..aircond aku ada kat belakang..aku rasa yg kotak tu kot.. aircond yg common org pasang..yg ada control speed 1-3 jer.. kat highway klia aku rembat ari tu pun ok jer.. balik rumah parent aku..still bleh kejar myvi kat belakang..

i meant ur beetle model is a super beetle....1302 i believe. and,yeah patrick puchong,he's a nice guy if u know him more.but alot ppl says he's arrogant. i chat with him few times,i think he's nice. alternator problem,and u changed it?my gosh,before u change did u check what's the problem? sometimes might just caused by the regulator or relay itself.... that's y better buy a book n study...try diy sometimes to detect if it's rosak or still repairable. the carb,please don't give to the workshop if u ever change it. give to me please,or sell to me... since it's rosak,i wana do experiment.i dare not do on working ones. btw,your alternator,mind taking some close up pic and also especially the made in,brand.etc.? the carb also... thanks alot. |

aha.. u also know patrick arr.. we know him quite sumtime already..since then lost contact with him..coz he the one being doing our 1st vw b4 this.. so he still recognized my dad.. the alt problem was found by patrick also..he said the inner part of the alt.. that wat i was being told by him.. coz we already wasted 3 batteries already.. coz not properly charging the battery..then rosak..new battery cannot full charge..waste rm20..claim waranty coz still new..later found out..alternator problem..so my dad easy..change la.. haha..
tomo i take a photo of the engine..close up view.. come la view live urself.. ngeh ngeh ngeh.. find me at USJ 9.. tehehehe.. we used to have the DIY book..dunno the book gone missing too.. i remember read it b4 this.. later go buy new 1.. huhu.. have to claim back from Big Daddy like this.. |

well..pat for me..if he dunno u..he will potong u kau kau..got once i call him..cause i'm looking for rims..he offer me his 2nd banana rim without nut is rm1.3k..i ask the nut how??he said some missing..but he will sell wat he have to me..add another rm100 to rm150..ask me go there and see 1st..
then i ask brm 4 lug how much..he offer me rm1.8k without nut again..1 nut rm12..he claim his nut is better quality type.. askar..wat happend to ur ride lar..wat kind of DIY job u do again?? |

Fatsam...yes there's auto shift classic beetle in m'sia.seen before but it's hard to get. anyway u could enquire for half cut auto shifts from japan or chop shops that import from japan. fentul...u wana tune good,go patrick puchong lo.or ming at usj1. |

wait.... spring? urs is a 1303?how come got spring? anyway,no way man,u can't save ur budget and change the engine first then save ur budget again to change disc breaks,unless u plan to not register the engine... if not couldn't pass jpj.1.6 must have disc breaks. |

I cant read Chinese without babelfish so I'll leave that to others Shawn cause we are dealing with hobby here..not making money here..so if u are willing to share wat u have..i can tell u this hobby will last longer..cause i have lots of friend wanna get a beetle..but parts and info are damn bloody expensive.. for example..if u have a book..teaching you how to deal or DIY about ur car a bit..why u need to sell it??why can't u just borrow to the person that intrested in that book and let them photocopy themself??if u scare the book spoil or lost..well..u can always borrow out the photocopy set out to other ppl..not by selling it..cause by selling those info..is like u are planning to making money..unless those ppl ask u to photocopy for them..then that's a different talk.. the best..u can always ask the person to come at ur house(if u are free)..and let them read ur books..this is how me and my friend works together..cause he have money to buy those VW magazine..and i'm kind of out of cash all the time..so he always invite me to his house and have a chat..
