I have a question,  how will they do their installation? I have a small tm box at the back of my house which is connected to telephone sockets all over the house. Will maxis connect it at that box?

You can flash the router to OpenWRT but I not sure if the router support 3 digit VLAN.

Both is same, because maxis use unifi backbone. Whenever unifi got issue maxis will got issue too.
