Some updates of my experience of transferring from Maxis to Unifi
Unifi offered me 6+2 months free bill if I change to them
Since Maxis refused to give me any meaningful promotion package to recontract, I decided to change ISP

Submitted my transfer request on 17/10, had to contact M's CS via twitter and provide them the transfer ID
Because my postpaid plan was linked to the fibre account, they need to unbind them
Requested to change my postpaid 79 to hotlink 45, they told me I need to use a month of prepaid before they allow me to switch to postpaid. I said no problem, then their retention team told me they will give me RM20 rebate on my RM79 postpaid for 3 years without any contract, so I'm keeping that number with Maxis till the rebate is over

Didnt receive and call back from their fibre department
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
22/10
Agent told me transfer request was rejected
Contacted Maxis again, they told me I need to clear the balance before they will let me go
Paid the bill for this month+another month in advance, submitted request again

Maxis called back in the afternoon, they said they are willing to counter Unifi's offer with the same 8 months bill rebate
Still, they said it is impossible to give me free access to public IP since it is an add-on service...
Ended up saying no to Maxis, but I did told the CS rep I'm happy with their service for the past 3 years, just not the price
Checked with CS rep, no need to return any of the equipments if you are out of contract

In the evening, Unifi send me the installation info for confirmation
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
24/10
Unifi 500Mbps installed, they give me a skyworth 2 in 1 box lol
However, you can use back the old ONU if you want to, plug and play
So far encountered pictures on twitter not loading (again, typicall of unifi)
Fixed it by using Controld DNS

Bye guys, see you all in 24 months lol
For me, the total saving will be:
RM149 x 8 Months= RM1192
No more public IP subscription required: Another RM10 per month saving till I terminate/TM starts charging fees for it
*
A good lesson to learn is, when doing transfer always clear your bill. Back when I did my transferfrom Unifi to Digi Fibre, TM ask for 1 month advance payment. Any balance will be refunded later.
Enjoy your Unifi, and meanwhile your Maxis Fibre will still run for a few days to 2 weeks. Should you decide to do a side by side comparison just plug back the Maxis router into lan2 of the modem.

Thanks
Maxis already potong myy service today, too late to try
But I'm seeing more and more SSID changing from @Unifi to @Maxis in my area, that's quite alarming...
*
Haha, so efficient. Last time my Unifi took 2 weeks to terminate. My Digi fibre also took around 10 days.
Nothing to worry, people nowadays are more open to choose their providers. Unlike those days marketting will convince you the other provider service sucks.

Still waiting for Maxis to refund my advance payment lol
Yes, I even cross checked the OLT credentials
Same password, different serial
Tried the same password on 3 different ONU (Huawei,ZTE,Nokia), all worked without the need to change the serial. I managed to get the VOIP service working on all 3 ONU as well.
*My maxis was on TM infra
*
I hope you have fill up their Maxis Refund Request form. You can google for it.

which maxis number we should call to get maxis offer? my fiber RM89 30Mbps is out of contract, planning to jump ship if maxis no good deal
*
First get transfer ID from Unifi or Celcom fibre, then call Maxis customer service informing them you want to transfer out. Call again to follow up and ask for promo if they do not call you back.

call maxis last Thursday and open case for fiber termination, no call back and i message them in X platform, today they call back

my current plan is RM89 30Mbps (last time sign up RM59 for 12months, RM89 for next 12 months)
maxis now offer me RM89 for 100Mbps (permanently, after 24months contract still RM89) with FREE 6 months
+ maxis offer me RM20 rebate on my postpaid RM79 for 24months, (pay RM20 less for 24months)

seems good deal right? will call them back tomorrow if ok with the deal sweat.gif

Unifi offers almost same free 6 months but 36 months contract
*
Yes, good deal with only 24 months contract.

I need to share my recent episode of fiber broadband outage.

on sat, i experience outage and reported to maxis. I confirmed its upstream of router issue as the unifi light is blinking (means no internet signal from fiber). On tuesday, maxis turn up with telecom/unifi. upon investigate, its the fiber cable that was cut by neighbour when he hired someone to prune his garden.

Unifi demand RM 60 to join the cable which I refuse at first saying its not my fault, but gave in to have access to internet. then unifi guy just outright refuse to connect and said need someone else to splice.

then no choice, i have to wait another 4 days before the next unifi repair come.

this time the guy who come is meant to repair underground fiber. he was not happy why the earlier unifi guy didnt join the fiber.

so in the end i have the fiber but waited 7 days without internet (gate cant open without internet). TLDR. corruption is rampant even at service repair guy. i am so utterly disgusted by this.
*
Did you lodge report to Maxis to check if it is within their SOP to demand for such payment, and why the first guy refuse to connect the cable? Sometimes contractor demand payment, and unknowingly people have to pay out of desperation. Imo any payment should be charge to bill, contractor should get paid by service provider not unless customer ask for custom installation outside the scope of work. Did they issue you receipt for such payment?
It is also worth to bring this case for attention of MCMC.

There's one Almina MA131 model too but not sure if it's still given these days
*
I could be wrong, but I think that MA131 is not Wifi 6. It was given years ago.
For my Maxis Fibre they gave the Huawei LG8245X6 router and reuse back previous ZTE ONU.

Yes, specifically
The dongle checks for "Maxis_Archer_c5v" hostname
All of the Maxis provided routers report themselves as that model to the dongle
If it's not that, the dongle refuses to connect

However, it is not SIM locked, you could insert other SIM cards in there and use it for internet, if you pair it with their router.

The SIM is probably SIM locked to dongle as well but I have not investigated it.
*
Read somewhere in this forum that if you use the sim elsewhere, Maxis will block it. It is only meant for backup of your current Maxis fibre.

Yes, I am on public IP. I didn't try netflix but I can access the webpage without issues. Just Hong Leong bank page cant access.
*
Is your issue solved? I'm also on Maxis fibre in Kuching but I can access Hong Leong website without any problem.

Not yet. What's your IP Subnet? Is it the 202.75.155.0 range? That range seems to have issues. Even reused back their router still the same issue.
*
14.192.213.xx. On private IP btw.

QUOTE(Quanta @ Dec 18 2024, 12:35 PM)
This is physically fiber cable problem. Same as mine previously, where when it rain, LOS light would be blinking. Found out that there was a dent (very minor dent) at the main cable from the distribution box into my house. So need fix by laying a new fiber cable. After that my internet is stable with -20dBm reading.

Bear in mind that TM plays dirty with Maxis customers on HSBB. If you are on Unifi, you are going to get a dedicated port with -16dBm reading which is super good. And if you are on Maxis, your main port would be splitted into two and there is some degradation in term of optical power.
*
Port split also depend on number of subscribers in your area. If not much subs, you will maintain the dedicated port.
But what's likely to happen is your speed is hard capped on TM infra, meaning you will always get 5-10% below actual speed.

Alright, the TP-Link is on 192.168.1.254
It's the same for everyone, that's what Maxis configured

For the ZTE, according to this video

It is 192.168.1.1

However, you cannot access it from behind the TP-Link router

you must connect a LAN Cable from your device to the ZTE directly

Is there any reason why you need to access the ZTE? Generally there isn't much to do there
*
Probably to get the Ploam password. But I think it is encrypted, as I tried and cannot see the password.

Hi, anyone here using ott or other video streaming services? Is Maxis tolerant of this, or do they try to mess the stream like Unifi?

Ott navigator you mean. So far no problem with Ott and tv box.

Apply transfer out and then ask them for retention offer. Can usually get free 6 months.

Can modem/router supports 500mbps/1gb?

I received similar offer, opted for 500mbps but in actual only can go 300mbps. Can't remember exactly reason told by maxis but i think it's the modem/router.
*
They are obligated to provide you the speed you subscribed. You can lodge report if only get 300mbps for a 500mbps plan.
Can you reach near 500mbps if test using lan cable? If yes, then time to change router with better wifi.

Hi, does that means apply transfer out first and wait for retention?

Is it possible to walk in and ask about retention instead of apply transfer out?

notworthy.gif
*
You may try and let us know. But with transfer ID it usually will work.

QUOTE(adamw @ Mar 21 2025, 12:45 PM)
The stupid WA CS damn action, we will get back to you if there's a promotion ranting.gif  Immediately asked for termination brows.gif
*
Hence it is important you try to port out or apply termination. Then retention team will call you. It is similar to Unifi, except for Unifi you can walk in to Tmpoint to request SWU plan.

According to the CS it’s offered for loyal customers only, reason being my parent’s line is >20years with them. iirc is limited slots, first come first serve basis.

Only have 1 postpaid plan with them now, not required to add on anything else.
*
Time has advantage in terms of symmetrical speed up to 500mbps. If the Maxis fibre is gonna ride on TM infra, you will get different download/upload speed.
Having said that, I'm using Maxis on TM infra, so far no major issue aside from 1 or 2 breakdown that only requires TM to fix on their side.

Yeah, I'm aware of the asymmetrical speed, don't do a lot of uploading, so that's fine by me. Based on what the CS informed me, there are some areas that are fully on Maxis' own infra, if it's on par with Unifi then I don't mind.

Likely gonna take up this offer. save some money for snacks  biggrin.gif
*
Likely Maxis in your area is running on its own infra. With TM infra, you hardly get any of such good offer.
