QUOTE(Calvin871989 @ Jul 27 2015, 02:10 PM) Anyway, want to ask if its wrong to keep co2 running everyday even the lights are off when I'm away at work ? I usually come home after work everyday and turn on the light for 1 to 3 hours a day. Please advice. i think there's no problem if you have planted tank only but if you have a livestock inside your tank then you must observe how much co2 they can take without the plant produce a o2

Dear all, need some advice here.
First time trying on aquatic aquarium and wish to ask something.
Setting up my aquarium with the 5 elements at the bottom of my tank, follow by abt 1" soil. Then i actually put in abt 1" white sand. Now i am told to put in water and let my filter run for 5 days be4 i start putting in plant together with the anti klorin. My question is:
1. With such thick sand layer, does this help to clean the soil during this 5 days period? Am i not suppose to put in sand first? If above is yes, what can i do now? Mix the soil and sand together?
2. I plan on putting baby dwarf tear but with such thick sand, do you think is suitable? Or should i thin down the sand or just mix the sand with the soil together?
Please help
Thank you

Hi Jennifer, i dont have much knowledge on the soil and sand that u used but i believe its fine with what you have done at the moment. not to get too upset over it.
you could still plant the HC or dwarf tears over the sand. it will still grow if given the right conditions.
cycling the water is best done with your plants inside. fishes dont add first. the beneficial bacteria will grow quickly since u have the 5 elements inside.

anyone know if there is a shop selling SAE? looking for pairs of SAE for cleaning and controlling duty. Have bad luck finding one.
Fish depot will restock silver flying fox, between SAE and SFF, which one is better?
Thanks

Thanks i bought a pair of them when they are still small, until now, both of them still sucking on algeas(already 1+ year). I think unless you always overfeed them with food pellets/flakes, they will gladly do their job. I only feed my tank once a week.

QUOTE(jenniferjen @ Aug 5 2015, 08:41 AM) Err yea i know, but how do you play around your valve to produce your desire bps? turn clockwise to speed up your bubble counter (giving more bubbles per sec) and turn anticlockwise to reduce the flow (giving less bubble per sec). twisting faster or slower does affect the bubble count. for more accuracy of bubble count, u need to get the fine/minute needle valve. u may want to consider electronic/solenoid valve regulator if you find turning on and tuning the bps a hassle.

Thank for the input. I dont mind hassle but solenoid is so expensive, darn even a regulator is expensive. So just wish to learn how do i manupulate the valve to get, say 1bps and where should i see that i am actually getting 1bps? Thank you

Thank you I would suggest u google the video to see how to read 1bps from the bubble counter. there are 2 kinds of valve as i mentioned, one is the major valve (usually found on the regulator itself) and one minor valve (fine needle valve). for 1 bps or less, u probably need both combined to get the desired bps. it would be better for u to post a pic of your current setup so that we can pinpoint where to adjust.
