Money is subjective bro. When a 970 can be gotten for RM1.3k new and the cheapest 980 is RM1.9k, that's RM600 worth of difference. 7-10 extra frames isn't worth RM600 IMHO.The 980 will also have better frametimes at over 3.5GB VRAM usage, but again... it's not RM600 better.
*
I think using FPS is not really a good comparison. Game A may give you 7 fps improvement, while Game B may give you 15 fps improvement. In short, GTX 980 is about 12% (on average) faster than GTX 970.

Anyway, sometimes 7 to 10 extra frames could be crucial. If GTX 970 gives 20+ FPS and then GTX 980 with 30+ FPS, then GTX 980 can be look attractive...

I wanted GTX 970 too, but it was mostly out of stock or people jacked up the price from MSRP RM1388 to RM1499 (ASUS STRIX 970).

I got mine ASUS STRIX 980 for RM2150 (inclusive of credit card charges) instead of RM2299 which is the normal price people selling... (I can't find MSRP for this though).

Hey, anyone successfully returned a GTX 970? I'm thinking of returning mine to get either an R9 290X or a GTX 980. Do the shops just accept returns?

7-10 frames is 12% average performance difference, as you can confirm with TPU's chart (or any other chart really).

Frametimes > average frames. Having 200 frames in a game means nothing when there are micro stutters that brings it down to more than half of the average frames. If the 980 is sold at the 780's price prior to launch (RM1.6k-1.8k), then it would have been a really good deal.

Even the vanilla 780 launched at > 2k price point, I recall paying 2199 (or was it 2099) for the Zotac 780 reference back in 2013 (first week launch). Others brands were typically priced higher.

Yeah. So fingers crossed when (or if) the 980Ti comes out, the 980 will drop in price.

The GTX 780 launched at $650 MSRP while GTX 980 was $550, but 780's time it's 3.2+ ringgit per usd lor heh.

Having 200 frames is a good thing, this means your card can perform more than it should. I would normally either use DSR to further increase the graphic fidelity or just V-sync it to save power (my whole system consumes 250W when I play DotA 2). However at 1440p, GTX 980 is just nice for 60 FPS with all the settings turned to max.

As other former pointed out before, I didn't recall 780 is launched at RM1.8k, I think it was 680.

Definitely it will be more expensive, that's for sure.
Rumors circulating on the Titan replacement suggest higher pricing than the original USD1K.

And talking on computer components pricing here, it's started to inch higher and higher now due to the weak ringgit.

If AMD is late then Nvidia will price it high. If both comes out same time then the price will be more competitive.

No, 780 launched at RM2k+ as well. But the 780 was much faster than the 770, where the 980 vs 970 delta is closer.
Of course I'm being cheap and wished the 980 just took over the 780's price point when it launched. tongue.gif

Yeah but 980 is already cheaper (at launch) than 780Ti (which is also slower). So I think it makes sense for NVIDIA to price it that way, although as the consumer we wished 980 is priced at 970 price and 970 is priced at 960 price lol.
